My Seven Wives in One Body and Me, her Manager-Chapter 63: Rivals School Preview
Once they reached the cafeteria, Dennis, Jason, and Kimberly found the place empty, except for a vending machine for food like ramen and another one for drinks next to it. There were no cafeteria ladies selling hot meals, so they ended up just buying ramen and drinks before looking for a seat. However, as they walked behind a large pillar, they were startled to find Ivan, Sasha, and Minji sitting there. The three of them turned to look at Dennis, Jason, and Kimberly.
"Hey... over here!" Sasha called out, waving her hand.
Naturally, Dennis, Jason, and Kimberly headed straight to their table and sat down with them.
"Do you guys have gym class?" Ivan asked.
"Yeah, just finished," Dennis answered, sitting across from Ivan.
"Hmm... it shouldn’t be over yet, right?" Minji asked, checking her watch.
"Something like that. We were basically just used for a show," Kimberly answered.
The three of them immediately explained everything they had just gone through to their three seniors. Ivan, Sasha, and Minji just nodded along as they listened, looking like they understood exactly what had happened. Once the story was finished,
"Well, that’s just how it goes. For now, just relax here," Ivan said, folding his arms across his chest; it was clear he knew exactly what Dennis, Jason, and Kimberly were feeling.
"The pros and cons of being on the core team," Sasha added.
"What about you guys? Why are you here? Don’t you have class?" Jason asked.
"Nope... well, actually we do, but we just don’t feel like going to class. Don’t worry, the teachers understand," Ivan answered casually with a shrug.
"Oh, I see. Are you guys... worried about Brad?" Dennis asked.
Ivan, Sasha, and Minji stayed silent, but it was written all over their faces that what Dennis said was true. The three of them let out a sigh, looking like they were tired and just didn’t want to talk about it. Kimberly thought for a moment and turned to look at Dennis and Jason beside her.
"Hmm... that makes sense. Rika wasn’t in class earlier either, so she really must have gone with her husband to drop Brad off," Kimberly muttered.
"That’s the long and short of it. Brad is a teammate, plus we’ve all known him since he was a kid. He didn’t used to be like that, but ever since he started dating and eventually married the woman who’s about to be his ex-wife, he kind of drifted away from us," Sasha said.
"Right. That’s why I understand my husband going with him. Ever since we were little, if anything happened, Brad always put us first," Minji added, folding her arms over her chest.
"Huh... is Brad really that good of a guy? From what I remember, he wasn’t exactly a saint. To be honest, even though he and I don’t have beef anymore, I still can’t bring myself to call him a friend," Dennis said in his heart.
"Forget it, let’s stop talking about him. Let’s just pray his mess gets settled quickly. Besides, Brad’s not a bad-looking guy; he can find someone much better who actually loves him in the future. I’m staying positive," Ivan muttered, though it was clear he still looked worried.
"Right? I’ve got some unmarried friends in class, and one of them actually has her eye on him. I’ll just play matchmaker for them later," Sasha said.
"Don’t go meddling in other people’s love lives. What’s wrong with you?" Ivan replied.
"I’m just trying to help, husband. You’re no fun," Sasha replied, leaning in close to Ivan.
Eventually, Ivan, Sasha, and Minji got carried away talking amongst themselves in front of Dennis, Jason, and Kimberly, who calmly enjoyed their ramen. Dennis observed the three of them sitting there. He just realized that in his previous life in the other world, he didn’t know Ivan, Sasha, or Minji at all. He had only met them in this world, and it was clear that the Brad in this world was different from the one he knew in his old life. But he kept quiet and didn’t say a word, simply slurping his ramen casually.
As the atmosphere became comfortable and they chatted casually, "ding," a message arrived on all of their smartphones. When they checked, they saw a message in their joint group chat. Upon opening it, it turned out to be Hyunjin informing everyone that he, Akira, and Rika were currently outside a lawyer’s office, waiting for Brad, who was inside speaking with the attorney handling his case. Hyunjin also mentioned he would provide updates as things developed. Naturally, Ivan, Sasha, and Minji replied to the message, as did Jason, Kimberly, and even Daisy, Gary, and Olivia.
Dennis simply read it and then put his smartphone back down. He continued enjoying his ramen calmly, having bought a second helping from the vending machine.
"Sorry, I’m not joining in; Daisy already spoke for me," he said to himself.
"How about after this we all go out together, just to clear our heads," Minji suggested to the others, including Dennis, Jason, and Kimberly.
"We can’t. We have to meet with Mr. Steve because of that challenge from that school again, right?" Ivan said.
"True. If it weren’t for that business, we’d obviously be out there with your husband and Akira, wouldn’t we? You’re slipping," Sasha said to Minji.
"A challenge?" Dennis asked.
"Ah right, there’s an all-boys school on the west side of downtown that wants to spar with our school’s core team. They call it practice, but it’s actually a challenge because they’ve never beaten us. They just keep challenging us," Ivan answered.
"Oh... so that’s how it is," Kimberly muttered.
"Once we graduate, you guys will be the ones facing them," Sasha said with a smile.
"They’ve been our rivals forever. Our seniors faced them, and so did the seniors before them. That school has never won against ours, even though they’re strong and always nominated as the best hunter-producing school in the city, and they’re always being scouted by hunter guilds," Minji explained.
"Hmm... what is the name of their school?" Dennis asked.
"Red Wind Boys Military School. Unlike us, being the Emerald City Military Academy funded by the city government, they are a private school. That’s why they keep challenging us," Ivan answered.
"In their school, marriage isn’t required at our age, so they do whatever they want and are a bit rebellious. To be honest, I’m not a fan of the kids at that school," Sasha said.
"Usually, they look for partners at Willow Girls Private Military Institute next door, which is girls-only—though they don’t have to. They prioritize freedom of choice over being matched, so they disagree with the government’s decision and convinced the city that they can handle things their own way without technically defying the law," Minji added, explaining further.
"Do you know about the rules at that school, Jason?" Dennis asked, turning to look at Jason who was mid-drink.
"I’m just finding out their rules are like that too, but honestly, I deliver food there all the time and I usually don’t ask questions. I’m just there to drop off the food, so it feels awkward to go poking around," Jason answered.
"Hmm... no wonder when I go with Jason to deliver food there, the guys in the dorms sometimes have wandering eyes. Luckily I wear a ring, so I don’t get bothered," Kimberly said, looking at her ring.
"Ah... sometimes even wearing a ring doesn’t stop them. I’ve been harassed a few times because we accepted their challenges, but once they realized how scary my husband is, they backed off, hehe," Sasha said, grabbing Ivan’s shoulder beside her.
"What do you mean scary? I’m not scary," Ivan replied shortly, folding his arms.
"Hehe... true. Sorry, hubby," Sasha said, giving Ivan a quick kiss on the cheek.
They went back to casually discussing the all-boys and all-girls private schools that sat side-by-side and had been their long-time rivals. Dennis started thinking; he had no idea these schools even existed, and he realized there was still so much he didn’t know about this world.
Throughout his entire life here, he had never really gone anywhere. He just went to school, went home, stayed inside without going out, and repeated it all the next day. It was exactly like his previous life, although in that life, there were no neighboring all-boys and all-girls schools in his city.
"It seems like there’s a lot I need to learn about this world," Dennis muttered in his head.
[Correct, Master. I am ready to assist you.]
"Thanks, Sami. Please look into those two schools, okay? I really want to know who our future enemies are so we don’t make any mistakes later. No need to rush, just take it slow," Dennis said in his head.
[Very well, Master. I will gather information regarding those two schools and will update you once I have the results.]
After that, Dennis went back to chatting casually with Ivan, Sasha, Minji, Jason, and Kimberly, even though they had finished eating. They hung out while waiting for gym class to end so they could return to the classroom and then head home.
