My Seven Wives in One Body and Me, her Manager-Chapter 70: Hidden Motives Behind Sparring
The next day, after classes were finished and it was time to go home, Gary, Olivia, Dennis, Daisy, Jason, and Kimberly met with Steve in the teachers’ lounge. They stated their reason for meeting him: replacing Ivan’s team to fight against the team from Willow, backed by a very clear power comparison of the three teams. Steve looked impressed seeing their analysis, then invited them to talk in a more private meeting room instead of the lounge. After they went inside and sat on the sofa, Steve spoke.
"To be honest, I’m impressed with what you’ve presented to me, but I’m sorry—yesterday everything was already registered with the Hunter Guild and it can’t be revised. That’s why they came here to pay their respects to me and Ivan’s team," Steve said, returning Gary’s smartphone which displayed the comparison data.
"I see, sir. So it’s really not possible at all?" Gary asked.
"I’m very sorry, it’s not. Besides, you guys don’t need to worry. From what I saw yesterday, those girls are indeed strong, but they lack experience. Compared to Ivan’s team, they’re far behind. For example, even you guys, who have more power than either team, only managed a draw when sparring with Ivan’s team because they calculate everything. I understand you want to stand up for our school, but for this, leave it to your seniors and trust them," Steve answered casually while looking at the six of them.
Dennis, Gary, and Jason fell silent, unable to say a word, but then "grr," when the three of them turned to look at their wives, they were shocked to see Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly looking furious and growling softly; their hands were balled into fists and their heads were bowed. Naturally, Steve, sitting right in front of them, noticed.
"Hey... what’s wrong? Is there another reason you want to replace Ivan’s team for the match?" asked Steve, who realized the six of them had another motive.
Dennis, Gary, and Jason looked at each other, then because they had no choice, they told the story of what happened yesterday when they accidentally ran into the Willow team while eating at the fast-food restaurant near the school—right in the same row as the convenience store across from the campus. They also explained their encounter and the Willow girls’ desire to fight them. Steve listened, smiling and nodding, without interrupting their story. Once the story was finished, Steve spoke up.
"Alright, I understand. So you met them while eating at the restaurant after they left the school. When they were here, they actually asked about you guys because apparently, you’re quite famous for what you did on the southern train tracks; your exploits were recorded, and of course, the school is proud of you," Steve explained.
"Oh, they asked about us, sir?" Dennis asked.
"Yes, they actually proposed wanting to fight you, and Ivan’s team actually wanted to hand the match over to you, but I didn’t agree. Once I explained the reason, Ivan’s team agreed with me, because I know what their motive is," Steve answered. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Wait, why not, sir?" Kimberly asked, immediately raising her flushed face to look at Steve.
"What kind of motive do they have, sir?" Daisy added, sounding curious.
"Please explain, sir," Olivia added, also looking up.
Steve looked at the faces of Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly, then he shook his head and leaned back casually on the sofa while rubbing his bald head. Then he looked at the six of them again.
"Three of them are looking for husbands, and they wanted to bet that if they won a fight against you, Gary, Dennis, and Jason would belong to them. Since that’s the rule at their school, I obviously couldn’t agree to it; their school’s rules and those of their neighbor, Red Wind, aren’t official city regulations. When they heard the reason, Ivan and the others agreed to step up and protect you," Steve said.
"Bwoooosh," immediately a suffocating aura filled the room. Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly released their energy as their emotions suddenly spiked to the top of their heads. Dennis, Gary, and Jason immediately tried to calm their wives down, then Steve continued.
"The reason we refused to spar with Red Wind yesterday was the same. In the video, it was very clear they intended to crush Jason and take Kimberly. I questioned the authorities of both schools yesterday, and it turns out they’ve been haphazardly setting new rules for their students because, apparently, the students of Willow and Red Wind don’t get along and don’t want to find partners at the school next door. But the Willow team yesterday accepted our terms and finally agreed to match up with Ivan’s team, whereas we’ve banned the team from Red Wind—even the principal has agreed to that," Steve explained.
"Typical private schools, just making up rules however they want," Jason muttered in annoyance while trying to calm Kimberly down.
"Their rules don’t violate city regulations, but obviously we can’t apply their rules in our school because we have our own standards that clearly stem from and align with city laws. So, how about this: I’ll allow the six of you to watch the sparring match between Ivan’s team and Rachel’s team from Willow. How does that sound?" Steve asked.
Gary, a furious Olivia, Dennis, a furious Daisy, Jason, and a furious Kimberly all whipped their heads toward Steve so fast it looked like they had whiplash. Steve remained relaxed, smiling as he waited for an answer.
"Fine, sir. With pleasure," Daisy said, her eyes burning with fire.
"Total agreement, sir. When is it scheduled?" Olivia asked, just as heated.
"If we have to, we’ll even be the cheerleaders for our senior team, sir," Kimberly added, her intensity matching the others.
"The date has been set for the first day of next week, and the location is in the south, at a neutral Hunter Guild arena. I’ll send the details to Gary’s email," Steve said.
"Alright, sir. I’ll wait for the email," Gary replied.
"Okay, I’ll send it shortly. Anything else?" Steve asked casually.
The six of them immediately looked at one another, then turned their attention back to Steve.
"Nothing else, sir. Everything is clear," Dennis said.
"Alright then, you’re free to go. I still have work to do," Steve replied, straightening up his posture while maintaining his smile.
"Understood, thank you for your time, sir," Gary replied while bowing respectfully, followed by the others.
They took their leave and walked out of the room, leaving Steve still sitting on the sofa. He shook his head and rubbed his bald scalp.
"Youth... being young really is the life," Steve muttered with a smile.
Meanwhile, outside the teachers’ lounge in the corridor, the six of them walked casually toward their classroom. Dennis kept an eye on Daisy, who still looked furious, and wrapped his arm around her; Gary and Jason did the same with Olivia and Kimberly. As they nearly reached the stairs, they spotted Ivan, Sasha, Brad, Hyunjin, Minji, and Akira walking down while deep in discussion.
Immediately, Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly broke away from their husbands’ embrace and ran toward Sasha and Minji. They grabbed Sasha and Minji—who looked completely bewildered—and pulled them away, leaving Ivan, Brad, Hyunjin, and Akira frozen at the top of the stairs, watching their teammates being hauled off by the three juniors.
Dennis, Gary, and Jason ran up to Ivan and the others.
"Hey... what’s going on?" Ivan asked, looking at Dennis, Gary, and Jason, who were out of breath as they approached them with confused expressions.
"Sorry about that, no idea what Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly are up to, dragging Sasha and Minji away like that," Dennis said, breathless.
"Seriously, what’s up? Why do you guys look so gloomy?" Brad asked, pointing at the faces of Dennis, Gary, and Jason in confusion.
"Yeah, did you just come from the teachers’ lounge after meeting Mr. Steve?" Hyunjin asked, puzzled.
"Hmm... why don’t you guys tell us what happened," Akira added.
"It’s like this," Gary replied.
Right then and there, Dennis, Gary, and Jason recounted their entire conversation with Steve. Gary even showed Ivan, Brad, Hyunjin, and Akira the power analysis Dennis had provided the night before. They also briefly explained their encounter with the Willow team yesterday and exactly what had gone down during their meeting at the restaurant.
"Ah, I see," Ivan, Brad, Hyunjin, and Akira muttered in unison, seemingly understanding the reason why Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly had dragged Sasha and Minji away: they wanted to fire them up and, at the same time, entrust them to crush those six girls from Willow school on their behalf.
After that, Ivan, Brad, Hyunjin, and Akira, having seen the power comparison of the three teams, asked Gary to send it over to them so they could study the opponents’ strengths and organize a strategy against them. They immediately dove into a discussion with Dennis, Gary, and Jason, brainstorming right there in front of the stairs, completely ignoring the girls who had hauled Sasha and Minji away.
