Chapter 73: New Day, New Problem

About three hours later, past midnight, Dennis lay on his back in bed, his eyes still open as he stared at the ceiling. He turned to look at Daisy, who was sleeping beside him, resting on his arm and held in his embrace. Dennis stroked his wife’s hair and gazed at her sweet face while she slept, then returned his gaze to the ceiling. What Daisy Number Seven had projected into his mind—Daisy’s actual vision of what happened to her sister—was still replaying vividly in his head, occasionally making him grit his teeth in rage.

[Can’t sleep, Master?]

"How can I sleep after seeing what happened directly from Daisy’s perspective? It’s a good thing I asked her to stop. If I had seen what happened to Daisy and witnessed it myself, I might have lost it and wouldn’t have been able to control myself," Dennis muttered in his head.

[True, Master. But when your wife’s life changed back then, the six personalities that already existed within her body due to the grief of losing her father began to manifest. As a child, she wanted to know what was happening, felt resentment toward her adoptive father even if she didn’t fully understand it, feared him so she did whatever she was told while looking for a way to escape, remembered her sister’s dreams and wanted to carry them on out of sadness, and tried to be tough while needing peace of mind—these are the things that transformed into personalities number two through seven.]

"Hmm... so she really knew that she had six other people inside of her," Dennis muttered.

[Yes, because she was all alone and didn’t want to disappoint her mother, plus she had lost her sister. So, she thought the six other personalities inside her were the reincarnation of her sister. She chatted with them like they were imaginary friends, even though the six of them didn’t talk back, until she reached the age of 14 and realized that all six of them could speak to her.]

"And then after her awakening, all six could manifest and take over her body, plus they have extraordinary powers like a cheat character," Dennis muttered in his head.

[Something like that, Master.]

"Uh... I’m going to keep protecting her. I love her, and maybe it’s because she’s the only girl who ever wanted to be close to me," Dennis muttered in his head.

[I will support you in this, Master.]

"Thanks, Sami," Dennis replied in his head.

Then Dennis turned again to look at his wife. He smiled and slowly rolled over to embrace her, kissing her forehead after brushing the hair away from Daisy’s brow. Dennis began to close his eyes and tightened his hold on her.

"Sleep well, honey," Dennis murmured in his heart while stroking Daisy’s hair.

After that, Dennis started to feel drowsy, and eventually, he fell into a deep sleep until the morning. Meanwhile, Daisy, who was asleep in Dennis’s embrace, smiled in her sleep. A ball of light like a firefly, which was Sami, floated out of Dennis’s head and hovered above the sleeping Dennis and Daisy as if watching over them.

[You really are a perfect match for your wife, Master. One day, you will also discover the truth about yourself when your memories are unlocked—both the memories from your previous world and from this one.]

The next morning, Dennis and Daisy walked to school hand-in-hand and looked completely normal, even though Dennis seemed a bit tired and his face looked sleepy.

"Huaah," Dennis yawned and patted his mouth.

Daisy turned to look at Dennis, who was now rubbing his eyes. Then, she leaned her head forward and turned to look at Dennis’s face.

"You’re sleepy, aren’t you?" Daisy asked.

"No, I’m just yawning," Dennis answered while grabbing the strap of his backpack.

"Do you want to just go home and sleep? Just call in sick if you’re sleepy," Daisy replied, observing Dennis’s face.

"No need, it’s fine. The sleepiness will go away later," Dennis replied casually and smiled.

"Hmm... okay, but if you’re sleepy, let me know, okay? We could sleep on the roof—it seems like it would be nice on the roof, hehe," Daisy teased back.

"Hey... don’t have weird thoughts," Dennis replied, holding his wife’s head.

"Yeah, sorry, hehe," Daisy replied cheerfully.

"Wow, getting all lovey-dovey so early in the morning, are we?"

Dennis and Daisy, hearing a woman’s voice behind them, immediately turned around to look back. They saw Naomi and Blake walking together behind them. They soon joined their two seniors and began chatting casually. Then, Blake turned to look at Dennis and Daisy.

"Oh yeah, about that guy named Sean—I’ve already handled it. Right now, his old man is definitely chewing Sean out, because I went straight for his old man and reported him to the government through my people there. Soon, his old man will be facing lawsuits from several parties and the government," Blake said, looking satisfied with his own handiwork.

"Wow... that was fast," Dennis muttered.

"People like me always move fast and hit the target exactly where it counts," Blake replied, bragging a bit and showing no shame in doing so.

"That means his old man won’t be able to handle Jason’s small claims lawsuit for the bike repairs," Dennis replied.

"Exactly. And of course, because of Jason’s claim, his old cases can be reopened. This time, he’s going to face the consequences of his actions, and I guarantee he won’t be strong enough to handle it," Blake replied.

Then Dennis and Blake walked on ahead, chatting away. Meanwhile, Naomi, who was walking beside Daisy, turned to look at her.

"Did you change your number?" Naomi asked.

"Yes, that’s right," Daisy answered, looking down.

"Hmm... Aquamarine City passed us by yesterday; was it because of that you changed your number?" Naomi asked.

Daisy nodded, then she turned to look at Naomi, who was walking beside her with a face full of questions.

"Sister, do you know what I went through?" Daisy asked.

"Hmm... something like that, but not in detail, and I don’t need to know the details. Sorry, but people like me and my husband have extensive networks in other cities too—well, except for Aquamarine City—and it’s easy for us to communicate with them because we have our own network. So, for every new student who enters our school, my husband and I always look into their background, just in case," Naomi answered while looking at Daisy and winking.

"Oh, can you contact other cities even if they aren’t close by?" Daisy asked hopefully.

"That’s not what I meant. If it’s about that, of course it’s impossible. But if the cities are adjacent, I have secret channels to contact people in other cities who are part of our group," Naomi answered while waving her hand and shaking her head.

"Oh... I see," Daisy replied, looking down with a slightly disappointed face.

"What is it, exactly?" Naomi asked anxiously when she saw Daisy’s expression.

"Nothing... it’s just, I haven’t told my Mom that I changed my number," Daisy answered.

"Hmm... why not just send an email? You can use email," Naomi replied.

"I don’t know Mom’s email," Daisy replied.

"Hmm... alright, I’ll find out your Mom’s email and let you know later," Naomi replied.

"Seriously, sister? Thank you!" Daisy replied, her cheerfulness returning.

Suddenly, "thud," Daisy and Naomi bumped into the backs of Dennis and Blake, who were standing frozen in front of them. Both women began rubbing their noses; Daisy patted Dennis’s back while Naomi kicked Blake’s leg, but when they saw their husbands remain silent, they poked their heads out from opposite sides to see what their husbands were looking at.

It turned out Dennis and Blake were watching a commotion at the front gate. Almost all the students walking by had stopped to watch, and some were even taking out their smartphones to record the drama unfolding before them.

At the gate, Bella was visible, already wearing the school uniform from the south and looking both furious and desperate. She seemed to be screaming at Brad, who stood frozen in front of her, standing tall with his arms folded across his chest and an expressionless face. Bella appeared to be crying, her mascara a mess, looking as if she were angry, pleading, or begging the calm-looking Brad.

When Bella reached out her hand to grab Brad’s, he immediately took a step back to maintain his distance, making his position clear. Daisy turned to look at Dennis’s face; he seemed expressionless, yet his jaw was set tight and both of his hands were clenched into fists at his sides.

Then, Bella turned to look in Dennis’s direction and immediately ran toward him with her face a total mess. Dennis could see that Bella had gotten thinner, her hair looked greasy as if she hadn’t washed it in days, and her new uniform was wrinkled.

She stood in front of Dennis and tried to grab his hand, but Dennis took a step back. Daisy then stepped in front of Dennis, blocking Bella and glaring at her with an angry face.

"Den, help me. All this time, I’ve always helped you whenever you had problems with Daisy, right? Tell that to Brad, right now," Bella commanded Dennis, completely ignoring Daisy in front of her, as well as Naomi and Blake who were flanking the couple. Of course, Dennis’s face grew even darker than before, and his jaw tightened even more firmly.
