Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Training Under Fire

"Wait... aren’t we supposed to escape from this place?" Cindy asked.

"Not yet," Jaxon replied calmly. "This is a good opportunity."

He stepped closer to the edge of the rooftop and looked down at the infected gathering below.

"Come on. Think of this as practice. Work on your aim and take out as many infected as you can."

Na-rin quietly listened to his words, her thoughts slowly connecting the pieces.

He hadn’t said it directly, but it was obvious. If Jaxon became stronger by killing infected... and now he was telling them to do the same...

Did that mean they could become stronger too?

The idea sounded impossible, yet Jaxon himself was proof that strange abilities could exist.

Na-rin glanced at him. Now she finally understood why he had chosen to work as a government runner.

Then another thought crossed her mind.

She was here with him... with his family... and he had just revealed a secret that clearly wasn’t meant for everyone.

A faint warmth spread through her chest.

’Doesn’t that mean... he trusts me the same way he trusts them?’ The thought made her smile without realizing it.

"What are you standing there for?" Jaxon called out. "Come over here."

Na-rin quickly wiped the smile off her face and walked over to stand beside him. Soon, the three of them lined up near the edge of the rooftop.

One by one, they raised their weapons and aimed downward.

.....

From the rooftop, silent bullets began raining down on the infected below.

The three of them stayed low near the edge, lying close to the ground as they aimed downward.

Some bullets struck infected in the chest. Others barely missed their heads. A few landed clean headshots, dropping the infected instantly.

"Ugh... missed again," Cindy muttered in frustration as another shot went wide.

She was aiming at an infected climbing up the side of the building they were standing on.

The distance made the shot difficult. The infected dragged its body upward along the wall, clawing at the concrete and jumping higher like a spider crawling toward its prey.

Before it could climb any further... Thup.

Na-rin’s bullet pierced its head. The infected’s body went limp and fell back down, crashing to the ground below.

Jaxon glanced to his side. "Nice shot."

Na-rin lowered her pistol slightly.

Half an hour had already passed since they started shooting at the infected below. At first, none of the infected noticed them. Their suppressed weapons made no sound. But as the bodies kept piling up, the infected eventually discovered their position.

Now several of them were climbing toward the rooftop.

Jaxon adjusted his aim and fired controlled bursts from his M16 at the group scaling the walls.

Thup-thup-thup.

Compared to his DMR, the rifle was less accurate, but the burst fire made up for it. One infected after another dropped from the wall.

Na-rin glanced down at the pistol in her hand. Then she shook her head slightly. "No, it’s not just my aim."

She glanced at Jaxon. "This pistol... did you do something magical about it too?"

Jaxon gave a small smile. She really was smart, she’d already figured out part of it. The pistol she was using wasn’t ordinary. Since it belonged to Natasha, it had been fully upgraded: no recoil, powerful damage, and the special skill Rapid Fire, which fired two shots with every trigger pull.

"It’s a good gun, isn’t it?" Jaxon said, shrugging casually.

Na-rin exhaled softly, already guessing he wouldn’t explain the full magic behind it. "It’s definitely a good gun," she admitted, eyes still fixed on the climbing infected below.

"Can you teach Cindy how to hit them as accurately?" Jaxon asked, keeping his focus on the horde below.

"Me? Wouldn’t it be better if you do it?"

"No," Jaxon said, eyes scanning the moving targets. "You’re better with a pistol than I am."

Cindy frowned at the two. "You guys are way too relaxed."

Compared to earlier, when every approaching infected had them tense and wary, they were calmer now. They trusted Jaxon to handle anything that got too close, and it let them focus on taking down as many infected as possible.

Over the past half hour, Jaxon had killed dozens. Na-rin had already taken down more than thirty, her shots precise and her composure steady. Cindy was struggling to hit the far-off, moving targets, but her aim was steadily improving, and she was learning quickly.

"Watch the left side, I’ll cover the rest," Jaxon said, his eyes scanning the advancing horde.

Na-rin leaned closer to Cindy, whispering as she continued firing. "Keep your aim steady, track the movement, and don’t panic if they jump." Cindy nodded, trying to mimic her stance and breathing.

The infected weren’t just climbing from below, some were attempting to leap from nearby rooftops. Most fell short, but the few that reached the edge didn’t last long, as Jaxon’s precise shots took them down before they could grab hold.

"Brother, I’m out of bullets!" Cindy exclaimed. In an instant, a box of ammunition appeared, materializing from thin air.

"Keep going, take down as many as you can before we move," Jaxon instructed.

Minutes passed, and the crowd of infected below thickened, drawn together by the chaos. The mass of bodies swayed like a small mountain, all clawing upward toward them.

"Jaxon," Na-rin said, her voice calm but tense, "should we move to the next building? They’re closing in fast."

"Just a little longer," he replied, eyes flicking across the advancing horde, squeezing off a few more precise bursts.

Once enough of a buffer was created, Jaxon swiftly lifted Cindy onto his back and leapt to the next rooftop with a fluid, controlled motion. They repeated the jumps several times, gaining safe distance from the infected below.

As they paused on the new rooftop, Jaxon’s gaze swept across the streets and buildings below. He thought about the equipment the special unit had used in similar operations. ’That kind of gear would make this much easier,’ he mused silently, weighing the advantages for future runs.

They resumed firing without pause. Jaxon crouched low against the concrete edge, pulling the trigger in controlled bursts. From his scope, he scanned constantly, not just aiming for kills, but watching for blind spots, rooftops, or any infected trying to sneak up behind them.

’This isn’t a bad way to farm,’ he thought, a hint of amusement crossing his mind. ’But why haven’t any mutated infected shown up yet? Not a single one in sight.’

For the next several minutes, they continued firing from rooftop to rooftop, dropping infected as they climbed. Whenever the horde grew too thick, Jaxon carried them to the next building before resuming the hunt.

Jaxon glanced at the display in his mind.
