My spirit animal is a F–Rank gecko-Chapter 32: The first special bond exam (18)
Alexander sighed at Marcus.
"What, tired already?" Marcus said, teasing the blind mercenary.
Alex pointed the katana towards Marcus.
"I’m afraid your light will die with you...."
Once again, Alex struck at Marcus.
He was like a human spear. Marcus couldn’t even see him as Alex appeared all of a sudden in front of him.
SCHHK
The blind mercenary’s katana and the spear of light clashed against each other again.
Alex kept striking Marcus without any break.
Marcus was trying his best to keep up with his moves. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
The man was basically slashing his katana every millisecond. Marcus couldn’t even blink.
The sound of their blades scraping against each other echoed in the forest.
Alex kept pushing Marcus further and further.
Every time Alex struck, the blade sliced through a tree and the leaves surrounding it, hinting at its sharpness.
Marcus was now huffing more and more.
Okay, this is crazy.... I’m seriously gonna die at this point.
While Alex kept his pace attacking Marcus.
Marcus pushed the blind man with his foot, sending him a couple feet away from Marcus.
He saw this opportunity before Alex struck again. He transformed the spear and broke it into many daggers.
He then commanded the dagger lights to attack Alex.
Sensing the countless blades, instead of retreating, Alex took a stance.
And he reflected all the daggers, one by one, with his katana.
Marcus watched in shock, seeing his incredible reaction time.
He looked at the man’s cat ears.
Is that ear helping him sense things better than the average human?
After successfully reflecting all the daggers, Alexander started walking towards Marcus.
Marcus backed away. He didn’t have any more light with him, and since it was nighttime, there was no sun for him to use.
"How do you even see? It seems like you know where I am constantly?"
He tried to stall for time while getting to know this blind mercenary.
Alexander raised the katana to point towards Marcus.
The blade was in a straight line where Marcus’s heart was.
"True sight comes from understanding, not vision."
He started walking towards Marcus, while Marcus kept backing away.
"Darkness teaches what light never can."
Alex spun his sword in the air.
"That’s why. This fight has already been determined. It’s clear that darkness is superior to light itself....."
The katana that was spinning in the air landed in Alex’s hands perfectly.
Marcus backed away but hit a tree, leading to a dead end.
The blind mercenary was ready to throw the katana at him.
He said with a calming yet eerie voice.
"You simply rely on sight..... That’s your weakness from the very beginning....."
Just before he threw it at the blonde man, Alex’s ears twitched.
From miles away, he could hear a bush rustling inside the forest.
"MARCUS!"
All of a sudden, Jaster popped out of the bush. He was holding a flashlight.
Marcus’s eyes shot up. He immediately noticed the blind mercenary was now aiming towards the student.
"KID, GET OUT OF THERE!"
Jaster turned on the flashlight and pointed it towards the ground.
"USE THIS LIGHT TO—"
Before he could even finish his sentence, the katana pierced through the sky, aiming directly at Jaster’s face.
[ Skill activated ]
Quick Escape — Lv.1
In the last second, Jaster dodged the katana, and it pierced through the tree trunk.
If it wasn’t for the Quick Escape skill, Jaster’s head would have been cut off cleanly.
Marcus noticed the light from the flashlight; he seized the opportunity and immediately shaped the light into a shield.
While he was doing that, the blind mercenary quickly grabbed his katana from the tree trunk.
Marcus barely managed to get in front of Jaster as he used the shield to block Alexander’s attack.
"KID— GET OUT OF HERE NOW!"
Marcus said while trying to hold on.
"Wait, I can help you!"
Jaster saw the unusual man. He was a hybrid of a human and a cat. Not to mention he had no shoes, leaving him barefoot.
Jaster had watched the two fight for a while. He was also confused about how the blind mercenary was able to know where they were.
Jaster brainstormed while Marcus tried his best to hold on against Alexander’s relentless attack.
Is it the cat ear? No, it makes no sense. It probably only sharpens his hearing. Then what else would it be...
Jaster kept on thinking. If he could understand how the mercenary knew where they were, then this fight would be much easier.
Then it hit him.
His spirit animal... That must definitely be the case!
"THAT’S IT!" Jaster yelled.
Marcus grabbed Jaster’s jacket with one hand while the other held onto the shield.
"What are you gonna—" He threw Jaster far away from the battlefield, and Jaster fell to the ground, face-first into the muddy floor.
"UGH!"
Marcus overpowered Alexander as he retreated back.
Marcus was exhausted; he had been fighting nonstop. His heartbeat was racing, and his face was full of sweat.
But what irritated Marcus more was Alex’s calm demeanor. He looked so composed. It was as if he was taking it easy on Marcus.
"Are you a monster or something?!"
Marcus screamed at the man. He turned the shield into a dual-wield spear.
"How much stamina do you exactly have?!"
"Enough to tear down a living flashlight."
Alexander rushed in again, and Marcus blocked it with his spear.
The blade clashing began again, as Marcus’s adrenaline kicked in, he was able to match Alexander’s inhuman speed.
Jaster watched the two clashing; it was like watching dark versus light.
He tried to think of a way that Alexander could see.
A blind mercenary.... I don’t think I’ve heard about him before in Soulbound. The story is changing rapidly....
He studied the two fighting. He could tell Alex looked surprised by Marcus’s sudden burst of speed.
This man is crazily overpowered. He’s able to fight the president of the student council with ease. I know he’s not using his full strength..
Just then, Marcus managed to push Alex away. He backed up, and Alex slammed his foot on the ground again.
Jaster’s eyes lit up. He smiled.
Don’t tell me.... I KNOW HOW HE CAN SEE NOW!
