Chapter 224: Unexpected!

Grey also noticed Lucy in the audience and shook his head.

’This little girl has wild thoughts. She probably thinks I’ll leave her once I become famous enough, but how could that be possible?’

He secretly chuckled to himself.

Grey wasn’t an ungrateful person, how could he abandon someone who had helped him during his troubled times?

"Can I leave now?" he asked.

"Yeah, you can. You’re a genius, after all," the pink-haired man replied. "You might be summoned for an audience tomorrow. A guard will come to fetch you, hope you arrive on time. The king rewards talent generously."

"Okay." Grey shrugged. With his talent, of course even the King would be attracted to him, though he didn’t care about that. His only goal was to reach High-tier Disciple level and get stronger.

This world might seem a little more advanced, but it followed an extremely strict monarchy and nobility system. However, instead of promoting incompetent trash, they followed the strong. Only the strongest could become King.

The nobles were also chosen from the strongest, and everyone worked hard to increase their strength to climb further in the ranks.

Grey had to admit, this was one of the most productive societies he’d ever seen.

Anyway, he walked out of the place, and the mature woman quickly followed, her toes curling nervously and an extremely shy expression on her face.

Grey didn’t mind her at all.

As they moved forward, they passed through dark tunnels and stepped back into the open land.

"Woah, what a nice day," Grey mumbled, stretching his body as his muscles popped with the movement.

His strength was a result of his skills and titles, he was truly powerful.

Although Grey couldn’t use Lilith yet, he was one hundred percent sure that if he caught anyone off guard, he could take them down quickly, heck even without it, he was sure he could take down some disciple level book tamers.

This was the absolute confidence that came with true strength!

Just as he stepped into the open air and the sunlight bathed him, hundreds of people were waiting.

"Eh?" Grey froze in place, stunned, before they practically lunged at him like hungry cheetahs, their eyes wild with excitement.

"Mr. Grey, will you become the guild master of our guild?"

"No, he’ll join us as a premium member of our bank, and then..."

"Mr. Grey, will you be my husband? I’ll transfer my entire inheritance to you!"

"You vixen! Mr. Grey will never marry you, stop dreaming! He’s going to marry me."

Grey was almost instantly drowned out by the clamoring voices, a roar so loud it seemed to pound against his eardrums.

"Can you shut up for a moment?" he frowned, spinning around and quickly striding away from the crowd, desperate to escape their overwhelming presence.

Though disappointed, the crowd held their ground, watching him vanish into the bustling streets.

Everywhere he went, all eyes turned to him, their gazes a tangled mix of excitement, envy, and fanaticism.

"Sigh," Grey muttered to himself, "Is this what they call suffering from success?"

Without wasting time, he pushed forward and soon reached the familiar comfort of the library where Lucy waited.

From across the street, Lucy’s eyes widened the moment she spotted him.

"What are you doing here, Grey?" Lucy asked, a hopeful gleam lighting up her eyes, only to quickly dampen as she muttered to herself, ’Wake up to reality, Lucy.’

Grey merely shrugged, wearing a calm, nonchalant expression. "You know—"

His words were cut short as his pupils suddenly contracted. He blurted out urgently, "Look out!"

"Huh?" Lucy turned just in time to see a giant bag hurtling toward her, attempting to engulf her whole.

Grey shot forward like a bolt of lightning, every muscle coiled with power. The ground trembled beneath his speed and force.

Just as he was about to reach her, his hand stretched out to grab her sleeve...

At that moment, a massive fireball suddenly erupted from the side, striking Grey squarely with a thunderous impact.

He was blasted backward, soaring through the air and crashing against the ground repeatedly before finally collapsing in a motionless heap.

Grey’s focus had been entirely on Lucy; though he could have reacted, the sheer force of the fireball overwhelmed him.

As he struggled to rise, he suddenly realized Lucy had vanished from sight.

"What the hell?" Grey’s eyes darted upward, his voice roaring with fury.

"Lilith coming out right now."

A crimson light burst forth, and the enormous Grimoire materialized before him, gracefully hovering in the air.

"Yeah?" Lilith asked, her tone sharp as she noticed the bloodshot fury burning in Grey’s eyes. She knew it was time to get serious.

"Can you sense Lucy’s location?" Grey demanded.

"No, but I can track the source of the fireball that hit you," Lilith replied swiftly.

"Show me the way!" Grey shouted, voice gritting with anger.

"On it." Lilith surged forward, and Grey matched her speed effortlessly. She couldn’t help but be stunned. How does he possess such raw power?

"Hurry!" Grey barked again, his bloodshot eyes blazing with determination, teeth clenched tight, and blue veins pulsating across his skin.

To any bystander, the two were nothing but blurs racing past, the wind whipping fiercely behind them like a storm unleashed.

Everyone gasped at the sheer speed of the two and the wind blowing right on their faces.

"There!" Lilith’s massive form pivoted sharply, her glowing pages locking onto a figure sprinting in the distance with terrifying speed.

"I found you."

Without hesitation, Grey launched himself into the air, delivering a brutal kick aimed squarely at the man.

The target’s instincts screamed just in time, he spun around, frantically scribbling in his Grimoire.

"Let the fire be my shield!"

A blazing barrier erupted, flames licking fiercely as it tried to absorb the impact.

But the inferno was no match for Grey’s raw power, in front of his jump kick as it started to shatter bit by bit.
