Chapter 143: Devouring Blood Fruit

The Nightmare Realm trembled under a sky that looked like torn black cloth.

Dark clouds moved slowly above the battlefield, and beneath that endless darkness stood the towering form of the Devouring Blood Tree. Its enormous trunk twisted upward like a mountain made of living flesh. Veins pulsed across its bark, thick and red like rivers of blood frozen in place. Faces formed and faded along the surface of the tree, their expressions frozen between agony and hunger, mouths open as if screaming without sound.

At the very top of the monstrous tree stood Cain.

He did not move.

His long cloak drifted in the wind that carried the scent of blood and burnt magic across the land. His crimson eyes looked down calmly at the enemies surrounding him.

They were everywhere.

Dozens of Emperor-level powerhouses had gathered around the tree in a loose circle, each one radiating terrifying energy that distorted the air around their bodies. Behind them stood even more figures. Followers. Commanders. Elite warriors from countless strange races that had come from different worlds and dimensions.

The Nightmare Realm was quiet except for the faint pulsing sound coming from the Devouring Blood Tree.

Thump.

...Thump.

...Thump.

The sound was slow. Almost weak.

But it was there.

In the center of the enemy formation stood the leader.

An old rabbit humanoid.

His long ears hung behind his head like faded banners of war. His fur had turned pale gray with age, and deep wrinkles surrounded his eyes. Yet those eyes burned with terrifying wisdom and cruelty. His thin hands gripped a curved staff carved from black bone.

He stared at Cain with deep caution.

Around him, the other Emperor powerhouses were whispering among themselves.

One of them was a tall snake humanoid with scales that shimmered like oil under dim light. His long body coiled behind him as he hissed quietly.

"Why are we waiting?" the snake said. "He stands alone."

Another Emperor snorted loudly.

"Perhaps the old rabbit fears him."

Several warriors laughed.

But the rabbit did not laugh.

His eyes remained fixed on the tree.

And on Cain.

"Do not rush," the rabbit said slowly. "Something about that tree is wrong."

Cain heard everything.

He slowly raised his hand and stretched one finger toward the group below.

His expression looked almost bored.

"You talk too much," Cain said calmly.

His voice was not loud.

But every Emperor heard it clearly.

"You have surrounded me with so many people," Cain continued, his tone relaxed. "Yet none of you dare step forward."

Some of the Emperors frowned.

One of them, a muscular giant covered in stone-like skin, stepped forward angrily.

"You think you scare us?" the giant roared. "You hide behind that ugly tree and dare mock us?"

Cain tilted his head slightly.

"I hide?" he said quietly.

The giant clenched his fists.

"I will show you what hiding looks like!"

With a thunderous roar, the giant launched himself into the air. The ground cracked beneath his feet as he flew forward with enormous speed, fists glowing with golden energy.

Several Emperors watched carefully.

Some of them remained calm.

Others looked curious.

But Cain did not move.

He simply lifted one finger.

That was all.

The moment the giant entered the shadow of the Devouring Blood Tree, the ground suddenly exploded.

Roots burst out like thousands of blood-red serpents.

They moved faster than lightning.

Before the giant could even scream, the roots wrapped around his body, arms, legs, neck, and torso, tightening instantly like chains made of living iron.

The giant’s eyes widened.

"Wha—?!"

Then the roots dragged him downward.

He struggled violently.

Golden energy exploded around his body as he tried to break free.

But it did nothing.

The roots pulled him straight into the earth.

His scream echoed across the battlefield.

Then it stopped.

Silence followed.

A long silence.

Then the Devouring Blood Tree began to pulse.

Thump.

The sound came from deep inside the massive trunk.

It was faint.

Slow.

Almost weak.

Thump.

A few Emperors frowned.

Thump.

The sound came again.

Thump.

Thump.

It started to grow stronger.

Cain slowly lowered his hand and looked down at the gathered enemies.

"You see?" he said calmly. "That one was useful."

The snake humanoid narrowed his eyes.

"What did you do to him?"

Cain smiled faintly.

"I fed him to my tree."

Thump.

The pulse grew louder. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

The surface of the Devouring Blood Tree moved like breathing flesh.

Veins swelled and contracted.

Thump.

Some of the Emperor powerhouses exchanged uneasy glances.

One of them stepped forward angrily.

"You think that trick will scare us?" he shouted.

Another Emperor nodded.

"He devours one fool and believes he has won already."

Several of them laughed.

Yet none of them rushed forward.

Cain leaned slightly against the trunk of the tree, looking almost relaxed.

"You know," he said casually, "you have enough numbers now."

The Emperors stared at him.

Cain spread his arms slightly as if welcoming them.

"Come," he said with a calm smile. "All of you attack together. The numbers are enough."

The words sounded like mockery.

The stone-skinned giant was gone.

Devoured.

Yet Cain spoke as if nothing had happened.

Some of the Emperors grew angry.

One stepped forward with glowing blades.

Another gathered lightning around his hands.

But many of them still hesitated.

The old rabbit narrowed his eyes.

His ears slowly rose.

Something felt wrong.

Very wrong.

Behind them, the Devouring Blood Tree pulsed again.

Thump.

But this time the sound was stronger.

Thump.

The air around the tree trembled.

The rabbit’s eyes widened.

He slowly turned his head toward the massive trunk.

Thump.

Thump.

The rhythm was faster now.

His heart suddenly tightened.

"No..."

He stared at the tree with growing alarm.

Thump.

Then his voice exploded across the battlefield.

"ATTACK!"

The shout echoed like thunder.

"NOW!"

Every Emperor reacted at once.

Dozens of terrifying auras erupted into the sky.

Flames. Lightning. Ice. Poison. Dark energy. Ancient runes.

The entire battlefield erupted into chaos as the Emperor powerhouses launched themselves toward the Devouring Blood Tree.

Behind them, thousands of followers followed their leaders, roaring as they rushed forward.

The ground trembled under the charge of so many powerful beings.

But the tree was waiting.

The moment they approached, the earth cracked open again.

Hundreds of enormous tentacles burst out from the ground.

They were made of twisted flesh and blood-red bark, each one thicker than a castle tower.

They lashed through the air like monstrous whips.

BOOM!

One Emperor smashed directly into a tentacle and was thrown backward like a broken doll.

Another cut through three tentacles with a blade of pure lightning, only for five more to rise behind him.

The battlefield turned into madness.

Tentacles slammed into warriors.

Explosions filled the air.

Firestorms burned through the sky.

The snake humanoid hissed angrily as he slithered between the whipping roots, slicing them apart with glowing venom blades.

"Forward!" he shouted. "Destroy the tree!"

Another Emperor roared.

"It cannot stop all of us!"

But the tentacles kept rising.

Dozens.

Then hundreds.

They twisted through the battlefield like living walls.

Warriors screamed as some were grabbed and crushed.

Others were flung into the distance.

Yet the Emperors continued pushing forward with terrifying force.

They carved paths through the writhing forest of flesh.

Above them, Cain stood quietly.

Watching.

Waiting.

None of them realized what was happening behind him.

High on the upper branches of the Devouring Blood Tree, a thick branch slowly cracked open.

A dark bud pushed outward from the flesh.

At first it was small.

Barely the size of a fist.

But it pulsed with deep crimson light.

Thump.

The bud trembled.

Then it slowly began to grow.

The surface of the fruit looked like red glass mixed with living veins.

Powerful mana spread outward like waves across water.

Below, the old rabbit suddenly froze.

His nose twitched.

His eyes widened.

"What... is that...?"

The snake humanoid also felt it.

His body stopped moving.

His forked tongue flicked through the air.

"I feel... something."

They both looked up.

Far above them, hidden among the branches, the fruit continued growing.

It became larger.

Then larger again.

The mana pouring from it grew heavier with every heartbeat.

The rabbit’s staff trembled in his hands.

"No... no..."

He looked at Cain.

And finally understood.

Cain was smiling.

A wide, mocking smile.

"You fools," Cain said loudly.

His voice rolled across the battlefield like thunder.

"If you had sent only your strongest warriors..."

He laughed.

"If you had not brought all these followers..."

The fruit pulsed again.

Its red glow brightened.

"My Devouring Blood Tree would never have produced a fruit."

The snake humanoid’s eyes widened with horror.

The rabbit shouted desperately.

"STOP THEM!"

But it was too late.

The fruit grew larger.

Its surface turned bright crimson.

The mana around it became terrifying.

Cain threw his head back and laughed loudly.

"Thank you for feeding my tree!"

The fruit pulsed one final time.

Then its color deepened.

Dark red.

Fully ripe.

Like fresh blood under the black sky.
