Chapter 448: The 0447th Surprising Change (Two More)_1

After leaving Murong Ruyin, Ye Xiong went to find Duanmu Linglong.

Both women were incredibly talented, and their assistance would be highly beneficial to the company. Ye Xiong hoped to avoid conflict between them.

Even if he couldn’t resolve their disputes, he at least wanted to ensure they wouldn’t harm each other and that they would focus on their own affairs.

The secretary had already prepared an office for Duanmu Linglong on the fourth floor. Ye Xiong arranged this to minimize their interactions.

Duanmu Linglong was just finishing up with the secretary when she saw Ye Xiong approach and said to the secretary, “You can go now. I’ll call you if I need you later.”

...

The secretary nodded, greeted Ye Xiong, and then left.

“Do you like the office?” Ye Xiong asked.

“I’m quite satisfied with it. I would be even more so if a certain person wasn’t in this building,” Duanmu Linglong said.

“Linglong…”

“Fine, since you’ve mentioned it, I’ll just act like she doesn’t exist from now on,” Duanmu Linglong replied resignedly.

“That’s the Duanmu Linglong I know, one who sees the bigger picture.”

Duanmu Linglong’s gaze fell on Ye Xiong and she said, “I didn’t expect you to be so fierce when angry. You gave me quite a scare earlier.”

“Did I scare you?”

“No, I think men should be like that. Weak men can’t handle big affairs; only a domineering man can achieve great things,” she commented.

“I was simply following the principles. Tonight, the company has organized a dinner in your honor as a welcome,” he explained.

“You’re quite sensible.” Duanmu Linglong laughed.

“I’ll be going now.”

After that, Ye Xiong instructed the administrative department to arrange a dinner and notify some of the core members who weren’t on assignments.

When Murong Ruyin first joined the company, Ye Xiong had considered welcoming her in the same way, but she didn’t like socializing. Since she didn’t want to eat with her face covered or reveal her true appearance, she ultimately declined.

“Oh, and I’ll talk to Murong Ruyin myself.”

Ye Xiong decided to call her himself. Otherwise, she might think that he was only welcoming Duanmu Linglong and not her, which could lead to further issues.

To tell the truth, if it weren’t for the fact that both Murong Ruyin and Duanmu Linglong had close ties with him and contributed significantly to the company with their medical skill, he wouldn’t want to expend so much effort.

He called Murong Ruyin, and as expected, she declined to attend.

In the evening, Ye Xiong invited He Mengji, Angel Anleer, Chen Xiao, Vermilion Bird, and Thirteen to dinner. Since Thirteen was on assignment and absent from the scene, and Phoenix was not in the Jiangnan area, only these few were present at the meal.

Ye Xiong then introduced the people present to Duanmu Linglong, and the dinner began.

The meal had barely started when He Mengji’s phone rang. After answering, she stood up abruptly.

“What’s wrong?” Ye Xiong asked, frowning.

“There’s been an incident at the company.”

The group rushed back to the company at once.

As soon as Ye Xiong got out of the car, he ran up the stairs and found a person lying in the hallway on the third floor, face blackened as if poisoned.

Just as Ye Xiong was about to check on the person, Duanmu Linglong grabbed him and said, “Don’t touch him.”

She put on a pair of gloves and after examining the body for a moment, she quickly pulled out a small silver needle from the person’s back.

The silver needle was quite unique, thin and long, hollow inside, with remnants of black poison lingering.

Seeing this silver needle, Ye Xiong’s heart clenched, and a surge of anger grew within him.

He was all too familiar with this needle; it was the specialty of the mysterious person who had killed Duanmu Kuang. After a long investigation, Ye had been unable to find the culprit, and now the assailant had unexpectedly appeared here, taking the life of one of his own.

His fists clenched tightly.

Moving on, they discovered four more bodies, all of them night-shift employees.

These employees were elite, handpicked through rigorous selection. They may not have matched the core members in skill, but were formidable experts among the ordinary, and yet they had been slain without anyone noticing.

“Go to the monitoring room.”

The group rushed to the fourth floor’s monitoring room.

The monitoring room was situated between Ye Xiong and He Mengji’s offices, designed for emergency situations.

Upon entering, they found two employees lying dead on the floor, also killed by a potent poison. All monitors had been destroyed, and even the hard drives storing computer data had been removed and taken away.

“The person who made the distress call was him,” He Mengji said, pointing to an employee on the floor.

It seemed they had discovered the breach and called for help instantly, yet still, we were one step too late.

“Cunning bastard,” He Mengji cursed.

“Meng Ji, check if any important data is missing,” Ye Xiong asked.

He Mengji sprinted back to her office and found her computer on, with the password prompt active, indicating that someone had tried but failed to access her computer.

“Thankfully, it doesn’t look like any data was stolen,” He Mengji breathed a sigh of relief.

The information in the computer was crucial, like order details; if the Beast Organization learned what missions their operatives were on and sent assassins, it could deal a catastrophic blow to Hunter Company.

“With the monitoring room’s data taken, we can’t even check who came in and killed these people,” Ye Xiong cursed.

He Mengji glanced at the core members and said, “You guys can leave first, the boss and I need to discuss.”

Chen Xiao, Angel Anleer, Vermilion Bird, and Duanmu Linglong all left the office.

Once they were gone, Ye Xiong, watching their retreating figures, asked, “Do you suspect them?”

“It’s not about suspicion, anyone could be the mole now.”

“You think there’s a mole in the company?”

“It’s not what I think, it’s what the facts indicate,” He Mengji said gravely. “The restaurant we went to eat at is just a ten-minute drive from here, yet the perpetrator managed to kill these people, delete the surveillance data, try to crack into my computer, and leave in such a hurry within that short time frame. What does this tell us?”

“It shows that the person knew we would come back, so they were on a tight schedule,” Ye Xiong replied.

“If only our surveillance data hadn’t been destroyed, we would have been able to see which bastard did this,” Ye Xiong cursed again.

“We still have a backup on the cloud.”

He Mengji quickly navigated to a website, entered the password, and started copying the video data.

“You had a backup and I didn’t know?” Ye Xiong was both shocked and pleased.

“Did you actually listen to me when I talked, you negligent boss?” He Mengji gave him a look before continuing, “The cloud storage is limited, only keeps data for the last two hours before it gets overwritten. I just made it as a precaution; little did I know it would come in handy.”

“Quickly open it and have a look.”
