Chapter 28 - Protect (1)

Several police officers looked down on Renji simply because of the school uniform he was wearing, unaware that he was highly respected by many in the upper echelons, especially business figures who knew how ruthless Renji Ishikawa could be in dealing with his enemies.

Not even fifteen minutes after Renji made a phone call, a luxury car pulled up in front of the police station. A black-haired man with his hair tied back and styled, dressed in an expensive black shirt, stepped out of the car.

The police officers who encountered him immediately stood up to greet him. He was a well-known figure in government circles, a skilled lawyer, and the son of a former high-ranking police official from several years ago.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Takamaru Mori," one of the officers greeted respectfully.

"What brings someone like you to our station?" another officer asked politely.

"I'm here to handle a matter for my boss," Takamaru replied flatly.

"Someone like you works for someone else?" the officer asked, curiosity evident.

"I don't like small talk, so could you let me in and allow me to do my job as a lawyer?"

"Of course. Please come in."

"Thank you."

The man walked over to Renji, who was sitting on a waiting chair. Without delay, Takamaru approached him, bowed respectfully, and greeted him.

"Good afternoon, Young Master Renji. I apologize if I'm a bit late," Takamaru said with deep respect and a hint of fear.

"Good, you're here," Renji said casually as he stood up. Renji's dark eyes glanced disdainfully at the police officers who had underestimated him earlier because of his appearance.

Feeling curious, one of the officers dared to ask, still unable to believe that Takamaru was the lawyer Renji had mentioned earlier.

"Excuse me, but who is this kid, Mr. Takamaru? Why do you show him so much respect?" the officer asked, curious and confused.

"This is Young Master Renji Ishikawa, and I am his lawyer," Takamaru explained calmly.

"W-what?"

Renji smiled triumphantly. "My lawyer will explain everything to you."

"No way. How can someone like you be an Ishikawa?"

"Takamaru, handle everything down to the roots. I don't want anything overlooked."

"I will do my best."

"You must. I want them punished severely, especially for trying to harm my wife and child."

"Understood, Young Master."

"Insulting Aira is the same as insulting me, and daring to hurt her is like seeking death from me," Renji hissed angrily.

Resolving the issue didn't take long for Takamaru Mori. Aside from being a genius in analysis, he was also skilled in strategy, especially since his father was a former high-ranking police official who understood every detail of the law. This made it easy for Takamaru to handle various cases.

Not long after Takamaru arrived, Aira and Saki were immediately released and treated with great kindness and respect, unlike the hostility they had faced earlier.

Tetsuya and Fujita finally arrived after visiting several police stations to search for Aira and Saki before Renji, but it seemed they were too late.

Tetsuya's smooth face, which he always took pride in, now bore two bruises, courtesy of Renji. Meanwhile, Fujita didn't receive any physical punishment like Tetsuya did, as Fujita had left under duress, not by his own will, so the fault lay entirely with Tetsuya.

Renji left the rest to Takamaru, who had complete confidence in the pineapple-haired man's abilities.

"You're ruthless, cousin!" Tetsuya groaned, holding his swollen and bruised cheek. They were currently inside a car.

"I'm being merciful by not knocking out your white teeth," Renji replied coldly.

"You're evil!" Tetsuya shouted.

"On top of that, I'm cutting the funding for your art gallery in England by fifty per cent," Renji added, listing another punishment for Tetsuya's negligence in protecting Aira.

"Don't do that, cousin!!" Tetsuya clung tightly to Renji, crying like a child.

"Either the funding gets cut, or I shut it down," Renji threatened, not joking around.

"You're truly the king of cruelty, Renji!!!" Tetsuya screamed, both frustrated and heartbroken. Secretly, Saki laughed, feeling happy and satisfied seeing Tetsuya suffer and struggle under Renji's punishment. It was entertaining for her.

"Fujita, please take Saki to..."

"I don't want to go home yet," Saki interrupted.

"Why?" Renji asked, confused.

"I'm still a bit shaken. Can I stay at your place and wait for Issei to pick me up?"

"Of course," Aira agreed.

"Thank you."

While Saki was allowed to visit the young couple's home, the same couldn't be said for Tetsuya, whose presence Renji highly unwelcomed, especially since he was still upset. However, Aira felt sorry for Tetsuya and allowed him to come inside, not wanting to leave him standing outside.

"Hey, pony girl, get me some ice," Tetsuya ordered from the couch in the living room. As usual, Tetsuya was starting a fight, even though Saki was minding her business and not provoking him.

"Get it yourself. I'm not your maid," Saki snapped, drinking from a half-litre water bottle she had just taken from the fridge.

"But I'm injured. Can't you see?" Tetsuya pretended to be in pain.

Saki rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Your face is hurt, but your hands and legs are fine. Get it yourself. I'm busy," Saki retorted, glaring at Tetsuya.

"Stop making excuses. Hurry up and get me some ice, or else..." Tetsuya leaned closer to Saki.

"Your face is terrifying, Pale Face!" Saki pushed Tetsuya hard, causing him to tumble off the couch in a comical position.

"Ouch~" Tetsuya groaned. Seeing her arch-nemesis sprawled on the floor, Saki laughed triumphantly, feeling no remorse.

"Take that! That's payback for always being a troublemaker," Saki teased, sticking out her tongue instead of helping him.

"Watch it, you ugly girl! Pony!" Tetsuya shouted furiously. Tetsuya's yelling was so loud that it reached Renji's private room.

"What are those two even doing out there?" Renji complained as he took off his school uniform.

"Tetsuya must be teasing Saki-chan again," Aira replied, handing her husband a change of clothes.

"His behaviour has been strange lately. Maybe it's the side effects of his heart medication," Renji wondered aloud.

"Maybe," Aira replied as if agreeing. Renji's phone suddenly vibrated loudly. When he checked, it was Takamaru, his lawyer, calling.

"How did it go?" Renji asked straight to the point.

(Everything is settled as you wished), Takamaru answered.

"Good job. I want them to rot in prison for a long time," Renji requested, and Takamaru assured him it would be done. Aira, who overheard her husband's conversation, was deeply shocked.

"Don't do that, Anata," she said sadly.

"They deserve severe punishment for daring to harm you and our child."

"I know you're doing this to protect me, but can't you forgive them and give them a chance?"

"There's no second chance in my life's dictionary, my wife."

"I'm begging you, just this once, Anata. Give them a chance to change their bad behaviour and become better people."

"If apologies could solve everything, why would we need police, laws, and regulations to punish those who make mistakes?"

"I know that, but there's no harm in forgiving. Even God is forgiving, so why can't we, as His creations, forgive? It shows how arrogant and prideful we are as His creations," Aira explained at length, advising and trying to make her husband understand.

"Don't try to lecture me, my wife."

"That's not what I meant, but I don't want..."

"Enough. I don't want to argue anymore. I'm tired and want to rest," Renji interrupted, lying down and turning his back to Aira.

"Renji-kun," Aira called softly, but again, Renji remained silent, refusing to turn or respond, perhaps angry or offended by her earlier words. Aira lay down beside Renji.

"Ah~" Aira groaned as her stomach was kicked hard by their baby.

Renji immediately turned around in panic. "Where does it hurt, my wife?" he asked anxiously.

Aira smiled happily, then placed Renji's hand on her left chest. "My heart hurts because my husband keeps ignoring me, and it seems he doesn't love me anymore," she whispered.

"Don't say that," Renji said, pulling Aira into a tight embrace. "Forever, there's only you in my heart and my life."

"Me too."

"So, smile. Don't keep frowning because you look scary, Anata."

"Are you trying to charm me?" Renji asked suspiciously.

"What do you think?" Renji turned his back to Aira again, pretending to be still angry.

"Too bad. I wanted to show you the 4D ultrasound photo from the hospital," Aira said, feigning sadness.

"Where is it? I want to see it," Renji said with great enthusiasm.

"Aren't you still mad at me and ignoring me?" Aira teased.

"How could I? Hurry up and show me the results."

"No," Aira refused, this time teasing Renji by pretending to be angry.

"Come on, don't make me even more upset, my wife," Renji whined without realizing it.

"I'll show you, but on one condition," Aira said.

Renji sighed quickly. "What?"

"You have to smile," Aira requested.

"No," he said.

Aira grabbed the corners of Renji's lips and pulled them upward, forcing a smile. Aira gave Renji a soft kiss on the lips. "You look handsome when you smile, Anata."

Renji's hand gently held the back of Aira's neck, bringing her lips back to his, then slowly and profoundly kissing her for several seconds.

The two of them gazed at each other lovingly, exchanging smiles. It didn't take long for Renji to calm down, especially since Aira knew precisely how to soothe his anger.

Earlier, Renji had entrusted Aira to Saki, asking her to look after her for a while, claiming he had important business out of town for two days. Saki happily agreed to her boss's request.

However, in reality, Renji had gone to a ballroom in a luxury hotel, where an essential meeting among the heads of underground clans was being held. After the meeting was postponed due to some issues, the grand event was finally able to take place tonight.

Renji arrived accompanied by Fujita and Shiro, while Keiko and her hired subordinates monitored the situation around the area. The danger was always lurking, especially since Renji had many enemies. Tetsuya also attended the meeting, accompanied by his assistant, Yamato, a former secret police agent.

The two young Ishikawas attracted a lot of attention, especially Renji, who, despite his young age, had made a name for himself in the underground business world. With Kaito backing him, anyone who crossed paths with the Ishikawa family head would think twice.

"You came too, Renji," Tetsuya said as he approached, with Yamato bowing respectfully to Renji.

"Tetsuya?! What are you doing here?" Renji asked, confused, as his cousin rarely attended such meetings, finding them boring.

"What do you think?" Tetsuya shot back.

"Are you here to see Keiko?"

Tetsuya shivered in fear at the mention of her name. "Don't repeat her name; it scares me."

"But she's currently on duty as my bodyguard," Renji explained.

"I already knew that from the start." Renji's dark eyes scanned the room, searching for one crucial figure in tonight's meeting.

"If you're looking for that old man, he didn't come. He sent Uncle Haruto in his place," Tetsuya informed him as if reading Renji's mind.

"I even prepared a little gift for him," Renji said, slightly disappointed.

"Save your gift for the right time. We shouldn't draw too much attention to ourselves."

"You're right, but we should still greet him. Old man Hiroshi is attending this meeting after hiding from us for so long," Renji said coldly, his eyes filled with hatred.

Tetsuya sighed softly, looking at Renji with a sad expression. "This suit is expensive and brand new. Don't make me stain it with blood," Tetsuya complained to his cousin.

Renji glanced at Tetsuya. Renji grinned meaningfully and remarked, "You're smart and understand exactly what I'm thinking, Tetsuya."

The sum Tetsuya asked was high. "Just make sure you replace this suit three times over," she said.

"No issue. I'll transfer it with interest if you tell me the price," Renji said nonchalantly, without caring about the cash.

When Tetsuya heard this, she instantly became happier. "When do you want to start the party?" Tetsuya asked, pulling out his black gloves, which he always carried in his pocket. Yamato, familiar with his master's every move, immediately understood what was about to happen. Yamato also prepared himself for his task: accompanying his master in carrying out the plan.

"In thirty minutes, during the Kabaret performance on stage. You'll have free rein, Tetsuya."

A wide smile spread across Tetsuya's face, but his eyes were cold, radiating a murderous aura. "I'll create my best masterpiece for you."

"I'll be waiting, Tetsuya," Renji said, raising his glass of wine.
