Myriad Devils-Chapter 321: Inherent traits
Before, her appearance was cold.
One could say that this was the arrogance of her status that was mixed into her natural expression.
However, at this time, she had a detached gaze, and her face was expressionless.
Outside of the obvious change from an unfathomable soul to an abstract soul, there was a slight contrast in her aura compared to her previous self.
This was akin to a young man who had left home and returned a month later, completely changed.
Margaret thought of something, and her expression darkened.
She looked toward her youngest sister and asked, "Maarsha, between the protector’s death and the appearance of Maddison’s avatar, what did that Realm Father Elshen do?"
The prince’s pointy ears twitched as he flashed a sharp glance at Maarsha. He immediately understood what Margaret’s question was implying.
’He was not so daring, right!?’ His eyes released bursts of killing intent.
"What did he do?" Maarsha rose to her feet and glanced at her eldest sister, smiling coldly.
"Heh, nothing much." She glanced at her brother and paused before saying, "He only enjoyed himself, just like any other man would."
Boom...!!
Maddison’s aura exploded out of his body, a furious expression etching itself onto his face.
A moment after, however, his aura dissipated, and his expression returned to normal.
He calmly turned toward his eldest sister, seeking the answer to a single question: "Realm Father Elshen’s soul, where is it?"
"Hehehe," Maarsha giggled at his reaction.
Both Margaret and Maddison looked at her with doubtful gazes.
The Empress smiled.
"Are you angry that someone touched your property?" She looked toward the prince with an emotionless gaze.
Before he could retort, she continued.
"What is a little humiliation on the path to understanding the secrets of the world? I cannot thank Realm Father Elshen enough. I cannot thank High Mother enough."
She ignored him after saying this.
Cupping her fist, she asked, "High Mother, when the time comes, I wish to enter the Realm Heaven in the Nether Lake."
"I’ve been enlightened. I’ve realized that each pursuer of cosmic mysteries has their own path. Elder brother can seclude himself in the Palace of Light; however, that may not necessarily be suitable for me."
Maarsha’s words earned an approving nod from the Empress. Even Margaret revealed a faint smile.
Both were top-tier beauties eclipsed only by the Venerable Saintess in all of her majestic purity.
The prince’s body was trembling.
He was visibly seething, but he sought restraint within himself.
He had a frightening expression on his face as his body transformed into a thick green fog that dissipated.
Margaret also excused herself, "High Mother, Maarsha, I’ll go retrieve Elshen’s soul."
"There’s no need," The Empress shook her head and said, "His soul has already dissipated."
"Dissipated?" Margaret raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"It seems that he has chosen death over any other path. Nevertheless, the word ’incomprehensible’ in his title is present for a reason."
The Empress said, "Even I am troubled whenever I attempt to deduce him."
"Even you can’t..." Margaret mumbled under her breath, "If that’s the case, then who knows what inherent traits his physique holds?"
Earthly physiques had but one inherent trait, which was their ability to achieve rebirth through their past selves.
The Earthly physique’s inherent trait of rebirth through one’s past self happened automatically.
For instance, when the soul of the otherworldly creature is obliterated and completely absent from the cosmic river of time, it is only then that they can attain rebirth through their former mortal self that existed in the material dimension’s river of time.
However, Fate connected all things in creation.
When Elshen made contact with others, it formed a connection through Fate. This was also referred to as Karma or Causality.
It was especially easy for him to lock onto mortal existences and kill them through this connection.
Hence, when he destroyed a soul, unless he showed restraint or the material dimension was protected by a powerful entity, then that soul would face permanent destruction.
This was the case whenever this inherent trait confronted creatures who had enlightened the principles of Fate.
Essentially, the Earthly physique’s inherent trait was useless in the face of Dimension Lords.
Including the ability to be reborn through their past selves, Cosmic physiques had an extra inherent trait unique to themselves.
However, the inherent traits for Earthly and Cosmic physiques were barely significant under the power of the Dimension Lord.
Transcendent physiques were more complex.
The ability to achieve rebirth through the past self was an insignificant trait. Transcendent physiques did not have it.
Transcendent physiques had two or even three inherent traits unique to themselves.
These remained their greatest secrets even until death.
These traits varied widely, just like a certain person.
Some inherent traits went so far as to make a creature an almost unkillable existence within the cosmic space.
For example, there was one inherent trait that was widely known, and that was the inherent trait of the members of the Astral Void race.
Once awakening from dormancy, they were blessed with transcendent physiques, but they all had but one inherent trait.
Within the Null & Void Archaic region, members of the Astral Void race were undying and immortal.
They could not be killed, and even in their dormant state, they would not exhaust their longevity either.
This only became widely common cosmic knowledge after the Wandering was chased into the Null & Void Archaic region before he had become an Overlord.
He was only an Awakened at the time, which translated to Realm Father. Even so, the power at the cosmic pinnacle could not exterminate him.
The Empress shook her head and said, "No, it isn’t just about his inherent trait. I do not see such a creature appearing naturally."
"I believe there’s at least one Primary-Level entity behind him."
Her words brought silence.
Both Maarsha and Margaret were deep in thought.
After a while, Maarsha said, "High Mother, between Elshen and me is a significant gap. I will work hard to bring glory upon your name."
"Fortune and calamity, calamity and fortune. After hardship is ease. Verily, my youngest daughter has finally matured." The Empress smiled and nodded approvingly.
Thereafter, Maarsha also exited the throne room.
The First Princess and the Empress remained standing silently, staring in a particular direction.
Only after a while, they both retracted their gazes and glanced at the other.
"It’s a drastic change." Margaret broke the silence.
"I think it’s an expected change, a good change." The Empress smiled.
The two remained silent thereafter.
They both had their own thoughts, and soon after, Margaret departed.
The relaxed expression on the Empress’s face disappeared.
Her figure, compared to the throne room, was incredibly tiny. However, a grand aura escaped her figure and swept through the entire room.
What appeared was the imagery of golden starlight, clouds, and celestial bodies atop a vast chessboard that covered the entire throne room.
’Ever since Realm Father Elshen’s death, there’s this worrisome sensation. He must have a way to keep his life, but the question is, is there a Primary-Level creature behind him?’
The Empress’s eyes gleamed with a cold light.
