Mythology Rebooted-Chapter 57 - 54 The Truth Always Remains the Same
57: Chapter 54: The Truth Always Remains the Same
57 -54: The Truth Always Remains the Same
The white flesh mass ceased its squirming, and the Legendary Mage’s body reconstruction was complete.
This body was entirely pale, with no bones or organs inside, completely filled with white flesh scraps.
On the right, three deformed arms of different thickness, two legs; on the left, three disorderly twitching tentacles, one foot split into a flipper.
The head was a thick, long tentacle that hung down from what seemed to be the back of the head, wrapping around the chest and torso, with the end covering the private area between the two legs.
The facial features were chaotically distributed across the smooth face, messy and asymmetrical, of various sizes.
An organ resembling a mouth nearly cut across his head, exposing two rows of closely packed teeth beds; counting roughly, the dense teeth reached into the hundreds.
The teeth were not covered by lips, there was no tongue inside the mouth, and there was no sight of vocal cords, windpipe, or esophagus.
Standing two meters tall, it achieved a certain degree of anthropomorphism.
Isabella’s complexion turned cold, and just one encounter conveyed a powerful discomfort; the mad Legendary Mage who wandered the Star Realm Cosmos had long become a source of contamination.
“The air of the God-chosen Continent is still as filthy…”
The Legendary Mage opened his mouth, fixing his gaze on Isabella: “You are a follower of the Nature Goddess’s Church, aren’t you?
That’s really nice, seeing you reminds me of my former self when I was also deeply fascinated by Life Magic.”
Isabella narrowed her eyes slightly: “Marshall Joshi Sommerfield, you too were once a disciple of the Goddess, a noble knight conferred by the Windsor Royal Family, with a renowned reputation in The Church, but you indulged in Life Magic to the point of madness, ultimately heading towards destruction.”
“Marshall…
Joshi…
such a familiar name…”
The Legendary Mage muttered to himself and then burst into laughter: “A name is a shackle, imprisoning our thoughts, a curse imposed on us mages by the gods.”
“Hahaha, do you think I’m mad?
Is that how The Church scares you?”
“It’s laughable, they don’t understand.
I abandoned my name, escaping from the curse.
Now I am the Void Lord; my thoughts have been liberated, I am not subject to any constraints, I…”
“Have learned everything!”
Towards the end, the once Legendary Mage Marshall, now the Void Lord, raised his arms and tentacles.
His laughter was sharp and piercing, imbued with a pervasive magic power, infiltrating everything and being everywhere, causing Isabella’s complexion to pale and her corpulent body to tremble uncontrollably.
“So what if you know everything, you have gone mad,” Isabella insisted with gritted teeth.
She was right; the Void Lord had indeed gone insane, and severely so.
A brief nostalgia passed, and ignoring Isabella, he turned and simply walked away.
Wind blades swept through, followed closely by flames, slicing the back of the Void Lord and severing tentacles, leaving behind charred scorch marks.
At the break, white froth squirmed, and in the blink of an eye, the damage healed as if nothing had happened.
Turning around, the Void Lord’s eerie eyes fixated on Isabella: “You have great potential, and your talent is not bad.
In the future, you will awaken just like me.
I don’t want to kill you, but if you insist, I’d be happy to oblige.”
Isabella was drenched in sweat; each time she conversed with the Void Lord, her thoughts became further muddled.
She exploded with magic power to forcefully suppress the discomfort, still speaking coldly: “If it were the once Legendary Mage Marshall, I wouldn’t dare obstruct.
But your mind has decayed, you are no longer the mighty figure adorned with glory.”
“You are quite confident.
Then let’s have some fun,”
The Void Lord laughed broadly: “Let me see just how strong the current Silver Mages are, has the level of the Nature Goddess’s Church risen or fallen since then?”
Without waiting for Isabella to respond, he answered his own question: “It must have fallen.
The truth always remains the same, and there will only be more awakeners like me.”
The Void Lord raised three arms, stirring up a ferocious tempest that swept across the entire field.
The storm was filled with blades, needles, not only in vast numbers but each of such high strength that they could pierce through gold and split stone.
Isabella unleashed all of the magic power she had been conserving, summoning the Naturalist Guardian Barrier, forming an invincible green shield.
With a thunderous boom, the barrier shattered, and the tempest dissipated.
Isabella was lifted by the violent shockwave and crashed heavily against the wall behind her, bouncing twice in accordance with her physique upon landing.
The Legendary Mage was indeed mad, and his chaotic thoughts made him forget the magic he once took pride in.
In fact, he did not bring all of his cognitive will to the God-chosen Continent, only a part of it.
Even so, Isabella was still as vulnerable as a child in front of him, able only to block a casual strike with all her might.
“I know you’ve mastered Life Magic.
Use it, and in that moment of explosion, you’ll obtain the immense magic power of a Golden Mage, perhaps enough to send me back to the void,” the Void Lord said with a smile.
Disciples who believed in the Nature Goddess craved knowledge but feared madness, only a step away from liberating their desires, just like him in the past.
He didn’t mind being the push, nudging Isabella to take that step.
The scene would certainly be very interesting!
Isabella stood up with a cold face; the Void Lord was a walking source of contamination.
Her thinking was disrupted by his interference, preventing the full use of her skills, and he, once an outstanding Mage of the Nature Goddess’s Church, knew her cards well…
Could she win?
Isabella took a deep breath, her flesh trembling violently, as if undergoing liposuction, swiftly slimming down.
Once her body shed the concept of corpulent fat, becoming slender and svelte, the magic power within her peaked, surpassing her own limit and stepping from the Silver Crucifix into the Golden Triangle.
The Hexagram is stable, and the Crucifix Star is no exception; the higher one goes, the more stable the balance is within a Mage’s body.
Isabella’s magic power only reached the Golden Triangle, and her surge of power was fleeting.
She knew this well, and in the face of the legend she once knew, she unleashed all her magic power in one breath to outline the grand Golden Triangle Magic Array in the underground plaza.
The rolling magic swelled like a deluge, allowing a supremely powerful presence to descend.
When everything had dissipated, Isabella stood in place, gasping for air.
Under the influence of the Divine Arts, a lock of her hair at her forehead turned dark green, and her face bore several faint marks.
The most noticeable change was to her ears: they had lengthened and thinned, resembling those of an elf.
Behind Isabella, light converged into a shadowy figure, as a holy will projected, sketching a minimal yet undeniable presence.
The Nature Goddess!
Clap, clap, clap—
The Void Lord clapped its tentacled palms, praising, “To be able to summon such a noble Goddess shows your faith is immensely devout.
The more devout the faith, the deeper the betrayal.
I look forward to your future performance.
As for this empty shell…”
“Heh heh heh, it’s nothing at all.
You are not a God-blessed, nor do you possess the Holy Spirit Physique, the Goddess will not give you much response.”
The Void Lord shook its head, expressing disappointment, “Honestly, I am very disappointed.
I thought your all-or-nothing effort would show more trust in yourself, but in the end, you still chose faith.”
I certainly can’t rely on myself alone!
Isabella’s eyes shone brightly as she pulled a pendant with a Hexagram from her neckline, its radiance glorious.
She made contact with the Earth Core Cult’s five Mages at their headquarters, borrowing all their magic power in an instant, channeling it into the Goddess’s shadow, making its outline sharply defined and lifelike.
The holy visage of the Goddess, her eyes slowly opened.
A horrific wave of energy swept across the entire area, an almighty will driving back the disorderly and chaotic pollution, forcing the Void Lord to retreat repeatedly.
The tentacles on its body melted, the entire figure turning to mush as if scorched by high heat, unable to maintain a normal shape.
Not that it was normal to begin with.
The Void Lord screamed as its decaying tentacles rapidly extended, transforming into sharp spikes, thrusting toward Isabella’s chest.
A glimmer of light shielded Isabella, clashing wills grated against each other, producing a shrill noise like the shattering of glass.
Isabella clutched the Hexagram pendant at her chest, closing her eyes and whispering, offering the most devout prayer in exchange for the downward gaze of faith.
The tentacles melted, but the light remained.
The Void Lord roared and cursed at the Goddess, shouting loudly as it turned and fled.
Under the glow of protection, the entire underground plaza was enveloped in divine power.
An invisible barrier blocked all paths of escape, no matter how furiously the Void Lord battered against it, it could not create even a slight opening.
With no route to escape and unable to kill Isabella, the Void Lord melted away amid continuous curses.
The source of corruption cleared, and the underground plaza returned to tranquility.
Isabella did not immediately dispel the Divine Arts, waiting quietly for a moment, nearly exhausted in thought, she leaned against the wall and slowly closed her eyes.
She was too tired.
And so hungry!
Goddess above, who would give her something to eat!
On the ground, the five selfless Mages who had donated all their magic power also collapsed, first the Magic Array, then the assisting Divine Arts.
One by one, they were utterly drained, hastily creating a Guardian Barrier before falling into a deep sleep.
With that, everyone in Enrold Town was granted a sleep of such high quality, like that of a newborn’s father.
The kind where not even a child’s cries or being kicked by a spouse could wake them up.
One person clearly was not, as he opened his pale eyes and staggeredly got to his feet.
The mayor!
He took a pendant in the shape of a deity from his chest, silently recited an incantation, summoning tentacles to merge with him, the pale Tentacle Monster moving towards the villa in the direction of the mansion.
With each step, his flesh transformed, the writhing white foam consuming muscle, bone, and viscera, accomplishing a metamorphosis.
The Hexagram’s sectors of earth, fire, water, wind, void, and self, also had their corresponding Magic Arrays arranged in the same order.
The Earth Core Cult headquarters’ four small buildings represented the Four Elements, and the deity statue beneath the chicken farm signified void.
The town hall could only be self.
The mayor, as the head of the town hall, was the “self” in the Hexagram, also a piece left behind by the Void Lord.
Poor Archbishop Ivan never knew until his death that the Mayor he had converted had long pledged allegiance to the Void Lord.
He was the one beneath the wagon.
Whooosh—
The pale humanoid monster raised its arms, morphing into boneless wings, beating them to take flight on the spot, accelerating towards the mansion.
“A bunch of useless trash; in the end, it seems I still need to take action myself!”
