Mythology Rebooted-Chapter 60 - 57 Red Leaf Forest Asylum
60: Chapter 57 Red Leaf Forest Asylum
60 -57 Red Leaf Forest Asylum
The slimmed-down Isabella is definitely a beauty, and considering her reticent nature, she’s also an ice queen.
An ice queen, a lady in her late twenties, that’s the type Young Master Wayne’s XP system is most fond of.
But not today, he felt utterly uncomfortable, scrutinizing the pretty face in front of him, he could only make out the words through the slits of her eyes, her entire face spelled out ‘man-eater’.
Wayne was held by the shoulders by Isabella, feeling like he had become food, his scalp tingling, he struggled free, “Calm down, we at the Naturalism Church are a respectable sect, our recipes can be unconventional, but they must never be heretical.”
Isabella was pushed by Wayne and fell straight down; she propped up her arms, trying to sit up but failed after several attempts.
She was pushed down so easily…
Wayne raised his eyebrows, realizing Isabella had exhausted all her strength; she was not wanting to eat people, she was truly hungry.
He took out a chocolate from his pocket and seeing that Isabella couldn’t eat on her own, tore open the wrapper and stuffed it into her mouth.
“Have a taste to satisfy the craving for now, I’ll take you to get something to eat immediately.”
Wayne carried Isabella and quickly headed towards the exit, “The townspeople have fallen into a mysterious sleep due to magic; are you, or the Earth Core Cult responsible for this?”
“It wasn’t me, nor the Earth Core Cult, there are five other colleagues…”
Isabella swallowed the chocolate with difficulty and, feeling her hunger becoming even more intolerable, urged Wayne to hurry.
There was an elevator nearby, leading directly to the surface.
Wayne didn’t take the elevator; Isabella had made quite a commotion in battle, and the underground plaza had been plowed over several times, so something was bound to go wrong in the elevator by now.
He didn’t mind, but Isabella would starve to death.
Wayne reached the surface and met up with the butler and his group, handing over Isabella to the maid and supporting her to the Earth Core Cult headquarters’ assembly square.
Last night at eight, the Earth Core Cult had prepared a cultural performance, providing food for the townspeople, but since everyone had fallen into a deep sleep, these foods went untouched and were still in the kitchen.
The cold weather, it shouldn’t have spoiled overnight.
Besides, as long as they didn’t eat the eggs, there shouldn’t be much of an issue.
…
“Slurp, munch munch…”
“Huff, puff…”
Once again, Isabella delivered a gluttonous eating performance.
Her stomach seemed like a bottomless pit, she rejected the maid’s table etiquette of serving dishes one by one, and instead went straight into the kitchen to binge.
At first, she couldn’t eat by herself and needed the maid’s help, until she regained some strength and then ate to her heart’s content.
Wayne watched in awe, noticing that as Isabella ate, her sharp chin started to develop a bit of baby fat; he speculated her physique involved some special magic.
He didn’t pry too much, politely holding a cup of tea, chatting idly with Isabella.
He was very curious about what had happened in Enrold Town.
In theory, Isabella was on a secret mission with strict confidentiality rules, but she still explained as much as she could, merely omitting minor plot points such as the Void Lord and Divine Arts.
Ignorance is bliss, and desire is terrifying.
Wayne shouldn’t know these things yet.
Wayne also didn’t mention the statue of the Void Lord.
He simply stated that he was sought out by followers of the Earth Core Cult and with the help of the butler and maids, he eliminated them.
Isabella nodded her head; after eating her fill and gaining a bit of weight, she could be considered slightly chubby.
Carrying a cold roast chicken and munching on it, she found her five colleagues who had fallen into a coma due to exhaustion of magic power.
Unsurprisingly, she saw a shoe print on the face of one of them.
Isabella fell silent for a moment, tore off a chicken leg, stuffed it in her mouth, and said indistinctly, “Wayne, these are my colleagues.
You’d better wipe off the shoe print, or it will be difficult for me to help you explain.”
“Miss Isabella, you’re mistaken— the footprint was made by a follower of the Earth Core Cult, not Young Master Wayne,” the butler stepped in to explain, with the maids ready to testify that Wayne had been with them the whole time, providing him an alibi.
“Exactly, the butler can vouch for me!” Wayne nodded, insisting without evidence, he urged Isabella not to make baseless claims.
Isabella did not speak; at that time, the whole town had fallen into a collective coma, so where could there be worshippers leaving footprints in the dark?
The only ones who could were Wayne and his associates.
Seeing Isabella’s unyielding stance, Wayne told the butler to stop explaining.
It was just a shoe print, nothing serious.
He had no problem taking the blame for it.
Philark once again praised Wayne’s gentlemanly action, even saying he had a broad and tolerant mind, and took out a handkerchief to wipe away the shoe print.
Their coordinated act was so convincing that it annoyed Isabella; she rolled her eyes and, not bothering to engage with the master and servant, awakened her five colleagues before allowing Wayne to leave first.
“The High Priest doesn’t want anyone to know you’re her student for the time being.
The less people that know, the better.
In front of others, don’t claim to be her student either,” Isabella cautioned.
Has the trouble in Lundan not been resolved yet?
Wayne nodded.
The aftermath of the Earth Core Cult was handed over to the Naturalism Church, and he was pleased to be rid of the burden.
After saying goodbye to Isabella, he was about to depart.
“Wait a moment.”
“???”
Wayne turned his head, curious as to what else Isabella might want to instruct him on.
“Thank you,” Isabella nodded, “the chocolate was very delicious.”
“It was no trouble at all, you’re welcome.”
Although Wayne did not know exactly what Isabella was thanking him for, it was not important.
He politely returned the sentiment before leaving, and invited Isabella to come to his mansion for a meal whenever she was free.
————
“Splat…”
“Huff, huff———”
So, you really came to eat then?
That night, Wayne was rather speechless seeing Isabella appear at the dining table.
He had mentioned the invitation as a mere courtesy and never expected her to take it literally and just show up to eat.
Is this low emotional intelligence, or high intelligence?
Wayne set down his utensils.
Just watching Isabella eat was enough to make him feel full.
He spoke candidly, “Isabella, how do you plan to deal with the Earth Core Cult, and how will you explain it to the townspeople?
As far as I know, ordinary people and Magic are part of two different worlds.
Can such a big commotion really be kept a secret?”
“That’s why we put them to sleep in advance, with no eyewitnesses, everything can be explained,” Isabella answered.
Isabella expressed she wasn’t concerned with this issue.
She excelled in infiltrating and collecting intelligence, executing precision strikes, belonging to the Scalpel Organization of the Naturalism Church, and was not responsible for the aftermath.
Her mission was complete, and professionals would come to address the townspeople’s doubts.
As for the Earth Core Cult, the Archbishop and the four Bishops were the main culprits.
With their death as the extinguishing of a candle, they were nailed to the pillar of shame and recorded in the archives; beyond that, there would be no further pursuit of responsibility.
The remaining followers would be handed over to professionals for interrogation, rated on a scale based on their rationality of thought, and dealt with in batches and categories.
Recent followers of the Earth Core Cult could be saved with a simple session of Magical psychological guidance, and if that didn’t work, an amnesia spell would be used.
The earliest group of followers wasn’t so simple, especially those who had learned the knowledge of the Earth Core Cult’s Magic and whose thinking was tainted.
They would be sent to the Red Leaf Forest Asylum in Lundan for intensive treatment.
“Red Leaf Forest Asylum…”
Wayne raised an eyebrow, getting a new location on his mental map, and felt a story brewing there.
“Crimson Leaf Forest is where followers of the Evil God are concentrated; it was established by several Churches together and has a long history.
It was originally the Heretical Tribunal of the Heavenly Father’s Court…”
“In addition to followers of the Evil God, Crimson Leaf Forest Asylum also houses Mages who have lost their sanity and offers services to some special individuals…”
In their few encounters, Isabella had always been cold and distant, and this time was no exception.
However, she spoke more than usual and answered Wayne’s questions as long as they did not involve any secrets.
Wayne listened, his scalp tingling, and asked with uncertainty, “Isn’t it risky to lock up so many dangerous convicts together rather than just humanely destroying them?
Aren’t you afraid of the prisoners collectively breaking out?”
“Impossible!”
Isabella shook her head with conviction, “The Red Leaf Forest Asylum has strict defenses; since its establishment, not a single prisoner has successfully escaped.
Your concerns are unfounded.”
