Natural Disasters Strikes: I stockpiled like crazy!-Chapter 207: Qingwang Fortress
Her impression of the Media Queen shifted.
Cho Jin, however, didn't seem to pay much attention to Helen Wu's words. His mind was preoccupied with her flattering compliments.
Lin Weihao barely spared Helen Wu a glance before speaking flatly, "She doesn't need my protection. She's strong enough on her own."
Nanzhi lifted the corner of her lips in a subtle smile, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Ms. Wu, if you don't step back, our car might just run you over."
Helen Wu's smile twisted into something crooked.
Caught up in her emotions, Helen had failed to hear the Hummer's engine roaring to life.
Cho Jin quickly stepped back, pulling Helen Wu away to let the two cars pass.
"Helen, are you alright? What's the matter?" Cho Jin asked, concern flashing across his face as he shook her arm gently.
Helen Wu quickly fixed her expression, flashing Cho Jin a bright smile. "It's nothing, Brother Cho. I was just missing my home."
Cho Jin's face turned to one of worry, and he patted her hand reassuringly.
Zhao Lin, who had witnessed their display of affection, couldn't help but snicker quietly to herself.
The two returned to their car and followed closely behind Nanzhi.
Helen Wu shifted uncomfortably in her seat, her mind still lingering on the memory of Lin Weihao's clean, fragrant car. The image of it haunted her, and she absentmindedly bit her thumb.
Meanwhile, the guard and his three accomplices, who had been watching the whole scene, finally breathed a sigh of relief once Nanzhi's cars were out of sight.
Not long after, the small base was rocked by news.
Dried corpses were found in a nearby factory!
The people gathered around the bodies, their blood running cold in fear.
In the past, Longmen Base had been known as Qingwang Fortress.
(A/N: Qingwang - King Qin)
The base had derived its name from the historical site it was built upon. The remaining government of Jade City had established the base there due to its fortified walls, which had managed to withstand the floodwaters during a past disaster.
It had become the main line of defense against the tides of alien beasts that roamed the land.
It was also where Nanzhi had called home for three months, and where she had met Bei Mingsi.
As Nanzhi thought back to the policies Lin Weihao had made about catching criminals, she began to understand how Mingsi and his cousin had made their way into Jade City.
Jade City had a less strict stance on criminals. As long as someone had supplies and power, they could stay—even if they were a death row convict.
"Alien beasts..." Nanzhi muttered under her breath.
Lin Weihao caught the warning in her voice and focused his gaze ahead.
Soon, their car entered the wholesale market, only to be confronted by a horde of mutated boars and horned cattle.
The mutated boars were twice their usual size, towering at three meters tall, their thick, matted fur resembling hardened rock. The horned cattle weren't far behind, standing at a height of two and a half meters. Two jagged, thick horns protruded from their foreheads, glinting in the light.
Yu Baoyin, who was sitting in the back seat, put away her lollipop and placed Snowball to the side. "Finally! My muscles are sore from sitting all morning!" she exclaimed.
"Chi—!" Snowball tilted its head and gave a small chirp.
Feng Ran, Hei Qian, and Bingwen in the other car also readied themselves for battle.
After a long while, Cho Jin managed to catch up, following Helen Wu's encouragement.
They approached the scene and saw a terrifying sight unfolded ahead.
The horde charged at the cars with overwhelming force. If the two cars ahead couldn't dodge in time, there was no doubt they would be destroyed in an instant.
If those people weren't killed, they would be severely injured!
"Cho Jin! Go faster! Get closer to the car!" Zhao Lin shouted, her voice filled with urgency. She was indebted to Nanzhi and Lin Weihao and couldn't bear to watch from the sidelines.
Cho Jin wanted to help.
But Helen Wu suddenly cried out, her voice shaky, "Brother Cho, I'm scared… I'm scared..." Her weak, frightened cries made Cho Jin pause for a moment, torn between wanting to help and his concern for her.
Zhao Lin's patience finally snapped. She shouted at Helen Wu, "Shut up! Can you do anything else besides crying? My ears are about to go deaf from your green tea voice!"
Cho Jin's face wrinkled in a frown. "Sister Zhao!"
"Tsk." Zhao Lin didn't pay them any more attention. She turned her gaze away and focused on the approaching alien beasts.
Her eyes locked on the creatures that were already nearing her benefactors' cars.
Without hesitation, she opened the car window and summoned vines to entangle the alien beasts' ankles. But something unexpected happened.
A thick, meter-high soil wall rose before her eyes, sharp earth spikes protruding from it, piercing through the alien beasts with frightening precision.
A wave of rotating fire blades followed, their fiery blades cutting through the creatures' fur and leaving scorch marks.
Then, twisted metal rods from the gate transformed into living vines, stabbing and impaling the alien beasts with deadly force.
But the most stunning part came next-- was the wave of purple lightning shot out, striking the beasts down with blinding speed and force, leaving them smoldering in its wake.
Helen Wu's eyes widened in shock, as did Cho Jin's, Zhao Lin's, and even Wu Hao, who had been silent the entire time.
They were all awakened beings themselves and understood just how much power it took to pull off such feats.
But if she wasn't mistaken, that bolt of lightning had come from the driver's seat, where that handsome man sat!
Her heart began to race.
A lightning-based power!
Cho Jin's wind abilities were nothing compared to that!
As everyone's attention remained fixed ahead, they failed to notice Helen Wu's longing expression.
Inside Nanzhi's car, Yu Baoyin spoke up. "Sister Nan, just leave these small fries to us!"
Whenever Nanzhi moved, the others were unable to do anything else.
Nanzhi sighed, deciding to be the spar collector this time.
"Chi—!" Snowball tilted its head again.
Nanzhi heard its soft cry and explained, "There are people around. Once we're alone, you can shoot webs to your heart's content."
"Chi—!"
After the alien beasts were dealt with, Zhao Lin and the others' perception of Nanzhi's team shifted.
Seeing how effortlessly they eliminated the creatures on their path, Cho Jin found himself driving closely behind them, grateful for the ease their efforts brought to the journey.
As for Helen Wu, she was more motivated than ever!
Night fell, and there were still three miles to go before they reached their destination.
Inside a gated community, Nanzhi scanned the area for any alien beasts. Some appeared on her mental radar.
They cleaned up the area before settling inside a somewhat clean room.
Cho Jin followed them and picked a room not far away.
Outside, the soft rustling of the parasol trees could be heard as the wind passed through them.
Nanzhi withdrew her eyes from the system screen, her expression thoughtful.
