New Eden: Live to Play, Play to Live-Chapter 1125: Protect The People
Alex felt the burning sensation of the stab wound before he saw the hand go through his shirt in the front.
He could taste the iron in his mouth as blood began to pool at his lips. Opening his mouth to breathe, all he managed to do was cough, spitting a mouthful of blood next to the old man's already bleeding head.
'That's bad,' he noted mentally, feeling the burn come from his left lung.
'Two broken ribs and a perforated lung. I can't keep fighting too much with these wounds. Even my superior healing won't get me back in top shape quickly enough for prolonged combat. I need to break away now.'
Kicking Alexander's back to push away, Christoph laughed maniacally with his childish voice and glee, licking the blood off his hand in ecstasy.
"Mmm, this taste. Yes! Nothing can beat the sweetness of the strong!" he jubilated.
Cheng Weilong froze momentarily, realizing what had just happened too late to use the moment both had stopped moving to deliver fatal blows.
Dashing toward Alex, his glaive still at the ready, the latter barely straightened from his knees to get into a blocking position, half expecting an attack while he was down.
Alex gritted his teeth, but the impact never came.
Looking to his right, he saw Cheng Weilong bend over beside the old man, a concerned look on his face.
Alex couldn't help but grin. He could tell he had broken through the man's mental shell.
"You willing to trust me now?" he coughed, blood still seeping from his lips.
His lung had almost fully closed itself already, soft tissue being the quickest to heal on his body, but he could still feel the ribs move painfully when he breathed and talked.
Weilong didn't even spare him a glance as he picked up the unconscious old man, threw him over his shoulder, and darted toward his nearest ally.
With a single swipe of his glaive, he killed the NFS agent locked in a stalemate with his enforcer and glared at the ninja coming in for a blow as well.
But the ninja immediately backed away from them, turning his back to them without hesitation.
'They really don't want this fight,' Weilong concluded.
"Get this man to safety and make sure he receives care quickly. His life force is already waning. If he dies, it's on you," he ordered his enforcer.
The cold glare he gave him was enough to make the man understand he was not joking. If anything happened to that old man, he would be held accountable.
So he grabbed the slumped old man off his boss's shoulder and bolted away from the area.
Many NFS agents tried intercepting his flight, but there were always ninjas and enforcers barring their way.
This only helped confirm to Weilong that the ninjas were there only to ensure the white wolf's escape. Not to cause trouble or kill wantonly.
At a glance, he could even tell most of them were defending themselves at best, trying to keep the bloodshed to a minimum.
Clicking his tongue mentally, he turned back toward the little abomination who was still licking away at the remaining blood on his hand.
'He's the only one here who is actively trying to shed as much blood as possible. This makes things a lot easier,' he noted to himself.
Weilong knew his superiors would tear him a new asshole with what he was about to do, but for the sake of keeping as many of his allies alive and possibly many civilians as well, it seemed like there was no other choice.
Tapping the back of his ear to activate his communication channel, Cheng Weilong gave an order to all his men.
"Cheng Weilong, to all enforcers: change of orders. From here on out, all communications from headquarters are to be left on silent. Full focus on the combat to come. You obey only my orders."
He waited to hear the response and smiled at the unanimous 'Yes, sir!' in his ear.
Dashing back next to Alexander, Weilong stopped beside him, his glaive lowered to show he wasn't going to attack. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Are you confident you can escape him? He has already proven to be faster than both of us," Weilong asked, keeping his eyes ahead on the monster boy.
Alex grinned.
"You really have no idea of all the possibilities magic offers us. These forms are just the start of my abilities, and I'm pretty sure these aerial slashes are only the start of yours," Alex taunted.
"Wouldn't you like to know, foreigner. But if you say you can get away, then make sure your men can too.
"I won't hear the end of this for a long time, but you have proven that you at least mean no harm to our citizens. It earns you a pass this time, but only this time . You'd better uphold your word and come back. I still need to judge you," Weilong stated with a side glance.
"I'm nothing if not a man of my word," Ales promised, giving him a nod.
Christoph, who had been ignoring them to indulge in the delight of the blood dripping through his fingers, was finally back to focusing on them.
His fingers were licked clean, and a voracious appetite flashed in his eyes.
He needed more.
With a sigh, Cheng Weilong gave his next order, knowing headquarters could still hear him.
Luckily for him, they hadn't locked the channels open when he gave his order to mute them. They trusted him enough to call this out for the good of the outcome.
'That's going to be hard to recover from. But I don't care if they demote me. Saving people is our primary goal and the reason most of us signed up to the enforcers. It's the right thing to do,' he steeled himself.
"Starting now, all enforcers are to ignore the ninjas and the White Wolf's group. Focus only on the black-clad agents. They are a direct threat to our citizens and need to be taken out. Take no prisoners."
"Sir, yes, sir!"
