Nightblade (Darkest night)-Chapter 162: Void flow.
The cadence of the fight was slowly changing.
Morgan/Sarenus stared down at his palm grimly.
His eyes narrowed when a slight tremor passed through his arm.
In fact, he could feel other parts of his body spasming from the strain of continuously moving around at an inhuman speed.
Despite the dexterity of Morgan’s body, there was only so much power that an initiate could handle.
"It seems your body can’t keep up with this pace, "Sarenus murmured, frowning slightly.
In the dark plains of the Void World, in the stead of Sarenus, the inky black figure of a young man stood with his arms crossed.
Where his eyes should have been, twin pres of immolating white flames burned brilliantly.
A ghostly wind fluttered his jet black hair.
This was a first for Morgan.
Actually, that wasn’t exactly right. He’d experienced something similar when he’d trained with Luke, but this was different.
It was quite strange to say the least.
At this point, he was seeing the world from two different points of view, experiencing the battle for himself and at the same time observing it almost serenely from the outside.
Morgan had to admit that it was quite a bizarre and yet uniquely enlightening experience.
"So this is what Sarenus was talking about..."
In their conversation earlier, Sarenus had hinted that to push back the realm of Velagrew’s influence, Morgan had to exert his inner world upon Tenebris.
" The only way you can do this is by entering a state known as the Void Flow."
Despite the seemingly straightforward explanation, entering Void flow was easier said than done.
In fact, even at the moment, Morgan felt kike his mind was breaking apart from the immense pressure.
" Focus on a fragment of it..." he muttered.
"At your level of strength would be impossible to expect you to overpower the realm of a Lord, but with this small vestige of his power, there’s a small chance that you’ll be able to pull it off.
"And while you’re doing it for the first time, the strain could break your mind if you do it all at once, so focus on one bit at a time."
Which was why Morgan thought back to the first time he’d entered the Vid World.
Despite the perpetual darkness that shrouded the Void, Morgan had felt strangely at home.
In the Void, he was seen yet unseen; it was a refuge of sorts.
It just felt...right.
While he concentrated on the feeling and his connection with Sarenus, the darkness surged around him, augmenting his entire body.
The starkly contrasting combination of flames and darkness washed over the battlefield.
The flames yielded to his will, and the darkness served as an extension of his mind, nd granting him extremely acute extra-sensory awareness of his/Sarenus’s surroundings.
Leaning back slightly, he dodged an attack from Veiliscera’s serpentine tail.
Then stepped back justvenouh to barely avoid being impaled on a veliscera’s claws.
"Too close for comfort..." he grunted.
In the next moment, he quickly closed the distance, swiftly returning the favor.
In one deft motion, his hand whipped through the air, cleanly exiting through the Veliscera’s back.
"But this still works out just fine.
He could feel everything that Sarenus felt, the pain of the veliscera’s ghostly touch, the wind on his face in the wake of his superhuman movements.
It was quite the intoxicating experience.
Morgan truly understood just how ancient the drayghar was.
Their unique connection allowed him to peer into the workings of the drayghar’s mind, seeing his movements even before he made them.
Sarenus flawlessly anticipated the Veliscera’s movements, at times moving even before the spectral creatures moved and incinerating them on the spot.
At this point, you could even say that he was drunk on the giddy feeling of the power coursing through his body.
Through the fight, Morgan discovered that Sarenus’s flames not only harmed the veliscer but burned at their very being, destroying them utterly and completely.
A truly terrifying power to be on the wrong end of.
At the moment, his consciousness was split between the Void World and his body.
Despite being a spectator to the way Sarenus fought, he got the chance to experience his technique in person and feel his body go through the movements. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
The different techniques, in turn, were recorded in his memory, his brain soaking them up like a sponge.
So in a sense, he was the one performing them.
"Still, it’ll probably be a while before I’m able to move like this."
But despite that, Morgan could already see the boons of being able to fight like the Drayghar Lord.
He was truly gaining quite the haul from this life-or-death fight.
If he could maximize the benefits of the Void flow, he’d potentially have access to a limitless archive of techniques and fighting styles.
And then there was also the issue of the blood reaper blades’ evolution.
Even to him, that had been quite the surprise.
The mystic blades did not cease to amaze him.
"Thanks, Professor Rundrik," he thought.
"If we ever get back, I’ll have to find a way of getting more weapons like this..."
Of course, he didn’t just ignore the looks of bewilderment and seeming awe that the others were giving him.
He could hardly blame them, after all, he was also quite surprised with the way things were going himself.
Sarenus moved his body in ways that Morgan himself hadn’t thought of before.
Frankly, it was quite startling to say the least.
And the speed and precision of his attacks were unparalleled.
"Wow...so the blades can be used like that..."
" And I can do that too..."
Despite the fire situation and the overwhelming number of the veliscera, Morgan found himself enjoying the situation.
His mind was calm and empty of any unnecessary thoughts.
Even with the ad stage of the strange fog, in Morgan’s eyes, the veliscera’s movements were predictably slow.
He could clearly feel the umbralis emanating from them, their movements speeding up.
From within the fog, watching closely the insidious creatures coordinated tried attacks with uncanny speed, their movements with lethal precision and accuracy.
It was the first time Morgan fought a creature that could speak, move, and even fight on equal footing, and even surpass human beings.
The entire ordeal was strangely fascinating.
Because of Sarenus’s power, his healing ability was greatly accelerated.
Despite the rapid regeneration, his body was still unaccustomed to being subjected to the strain of constant healing and regeneration.
"We can’t keep this up and watch out for your friends’ safety at the same time.
They’ve got to leave."
In the next moment, the veliscera began to transform.
The battle was entering its decisive phase.
"All that trouble for a couple of human beings." The larger of the veliscera snarled its lips, curling into a wicked sneer.
"Let’s see how long you can keep this up."
