Chapter 539: Chapter 537: You Are Very Afraid of Me [4 Updates]

"Sorry, I didn’t mean to." Maya immediately apologized.

When Maya looked up at the man, he wasn’t angry. Instead, he lifted his right hand and gently steadied her, advising, "Stand properly."

"Thank you!" Maya politely thanked him, looking at him again, feeling an inexplicable sense of familiarity.

The man in front of her appeared to be in his early 30s, around 185 cm tall, wearing a long wool coat over his suit. He carried himself with great demeanor and was good-looking. Maya felt he seemed familiar at first glance! But she was certain she had never met this man before.

"Maya, put on your coat." At this moment, Liam caught up and hurriedly draped the down jacket over Maya, his gaze not noticing the man Maya had bumped into.

"Third Young Master, long time no see!" The man watched Liam chasing after the girl with a down jacket and putting it on her himself, which brought a smile to his lips as if surprised that Liam was being kind to someone else, and a woman at that.

The Liam he knew was a man who recognized nothing beyond work and was oblivious to matters of romance or emotional impulses.

That year, he led a girl to attend a networking event, which was indeed a fresh occurrence.

After calling out to Liam, Liam’s gaze finally noticed someone other than Maya.

When his gaze fell upon the man, his breath suddenly held, and his brows furrowed slightly. However, he quickly recovered, smiling and greeting, "Chairman Bennett, long time no see!"

Maya listened to Liam refer to the man as Chairman Bennett, her eyes suddenly widened, staring directly at the man, thinking, so this is the legendary figure that Liam had been praising before.

Unexpectedly, the 46-year-old man in front of her looked so youthful, with a vibrant spirit, and an imposing aura. She couldn’t guess how he maintained himself to look so young; Maya found it astonishing.

The man glanced at Liam, then at Maya, his smile still warm, making Maya feel less cold instantly.

Then, she heard him ask, "Who is this?"

James Bennett had long lived in the manor and had no interest in outside gossip, especially not in those tabloid news, so he didn’t know about Liam and Maya’s relationship.

Liam listened to James Bennett’s inquiry, took a deep breath, glanced at Maya, and smiled, saying, "Chairman Bennett, this is my fiancée, Maya."

Upon hearing the name Maya, James Bennett’s face changed instantly, the smile at the corner of his mouth quickly disappeared, his brows tightening, staring fixedly at Maya.

The man’s gaze made Maya feel awkward, and she quickly retreated a few steps, hiding behind Liam.

This was Maya’s first time feeling fear toward a stranger. Strictly speaking, it wasn’t fear but an inexplicable tension, which even she couldn’t explain why she felt this way.

Seeing Maya hide from him, James Bennett felt a moment of embarrassment. What puzzled him was, wasn’t Maya the daughter of Madelyn Hanson and Edward Spencer? Why had she become Liam’s fiancée?

Although James Bennett had never met Maya, he wasn’t unfamiliar with her mother and had heard of Maya’s existence.

But, he couldn’t understand why Maya wasn’t a Spencer family member. If she wasn’t a Spencer family child, then whose child was she?

James Bennett could assert that Liam and Maya being together, Liam must be a blood relative of the Spencer Family; otherwise, S City would have been in uproar, and he couldn’t have been unaware of such a significant matter.

Therefore, between these two children, Maya was not a child of the Spencer Family.

"Miss Maya seems quite afraid of me?" After staring at Maya for a moment, the man returned to normal, smiling and speaking to Maya, but didn’t address her as Miss Spencer, rather as Miss Maya.

"Chairman Bennett misunderstood. Maya was just cold, hiding from the wind behind me." Liam smiled and explained.

"It’s indeed cold outside. Let’s go inside to talk." While speaking, the man’s gaze once again fell upon Maya, who was also looking at him.

Their eyes met, and the man politely nodded at Maya; his smile was still warm.

"Third Young Master, is there anything else needing delivery to your villa?" The manor’s staff asked.

"Nothing else, thank you!" Liam politely responded.

Maya listened to Liam’s conversation with the staff, her eyes still secretly observing James Bennett, genuinely surprised by how youthful and attractive this man appeared. Time hadn’t left any marks on his face.

As the group entered the clubhouse, Maya glanced around the surroundings.

She saw that the hall was adorned with various tropical plants, each beneath a large tree had vintage wooden carved tea tables and chairs or sofas, making people feel as if they’ve traversed to an unknown, secluded realm.

Maya liked the place, watching groups chat about worldly affairs outside of paradise, which felt amusing. She thought these people were too conventional, as such an environment should be enjoyed instead.

Raising her head, she saw snowflakes still dancing, though some spots of the skylight were already covered, yet Maya was stunned by the scene before her.

Afterward, she pinched Liam’s large hand, displeased and complaining, "Third Brother, such a nice place, how could you not want to bring me here earlier, that’s not fair."

"Whenever you want to come, I’ll accompany you in the future." Liam today had no intention of not bringing Maya, but indeed had a hard-to-talk-about reason.

"Sweetheart, are you here to learn business from Third Brother?" At this moment, Christopher Scott suddenly appeared behind Maya, placing his hands unceremoniously on her shoulders and asked.

Seeing this, Liam immediately grabbed his wrist, forcibly removing his big hands from Maya’s shoulders.

"It hurts, Third Brother, be gentle..."

"Haha..." Maya couldn’t help but laugh upon seeing Christopher Scott act in pain.

Liam listened to Christopher Scott’s cries of pain, rolled his eyes, and flicked his hand away.

Maya watched Christopher Scott touch his wrist awkwardly, grinning and saying, "I’m just here for fun, I think this place is pretty nice."

"Of course, this is the manor Chairman Bennett specially created for the networking event, sure to be nice." Christopher Scott said.

Looking at Christopher Scott’s proud manner, Maya grew increasingly curious about James Bennett, thinking, the person who had both Liam and Christopher Scott admiring him surely wasn’t simple; he must have many stories.

So, her gaze once again swept the club seeking James Bennett’s figure, only to see him sitting alone in a corner on a sofa, browsing the book in his hand.

Maya curiously asked, "Why is no one chatting with Chairman Bennett?"
