No Trespassing! My Aloof Brother-Chapter 577 - 575 She Cannot Afford to Love [Part 2]
A moment later, Liam Spencer also left. He rolled his eyes at Sophia Bennett dismissively before sitting next to Maya Spencer, wrapping her in his arms and listening to Sophia vent her frustrations together.
Sophia looked at Liam’s tenderness towards Maya, propped her small face with her hands, and said enviously, "I wish Christopher and I could be as in love as you two."
"Hang in there a little longer, and maybe you will be," Maya replied, as Seven Murray’s engagement was set to take place the next day, and she saw no signs of reconciliation between Christopher and her, so she no longer hindered Sophia’s pursuit of Christopher.
She thought, perhaps Sophia could indeed bring Christopher some comfort, and maybe Sophia’s enthusiasm could truly move him.
The only worry was that Sophia might not be able to hold on, or worse, after she wins over Christopher, she might quickly change her heart, which was indeed troubling.
Sophia, hearing Maya’s encouragement, pouted unhappily and said, "I’ve already persevered for a long time, so I’ll try harder and persist a bit more!"
"Yeah! Your efforts will be rewarded," Maya nodded approvingly at her.
So, Sophia stayed at Liam’s villa, insisting on spending Christmas Eve with them.
Liam originally wanted to enjoy a world for two, but was disrupted by her; however, luckily he and Maya were in love, celebrating every day, so he didn’t mind this day.
Meanwhile, in Christopher’s office, he glanced at the computer’s lower right corner—the time read two in the afternoon, an hour before his agreed meeting with Seven.
With each tick of the second hand, Christopher’s heart beat faster; he was impatient to meet Seven, eager to offer an explanation and to restart their relationship.
Christopher didn’t realize that his impatience might drive them closer to an end, drawing them further apart.
He had prepared many words and plans for their future in his mind, hoping that after dropping his guard this time, Seven would give them a chance.
After all, they used to be so happy together, and he didn’t want their youth to just be a memory; he wanted to grow old together.
Looking once more at the time on the computer’s lower right, it was already 8:05 PM. Christopher took a deep breath, sprang up from his chair, grabbed the coat he had tossed on his side desk, threw it on, and picked up his phone to head toward the cafe.
Seven years ago, when Seven left, he hadn’t pursued her or given her a clear explanation.
So today, he went early to the meeting to wait for her, giving himself enough time to explain.
When Christopher arrived at the agreed cafe, it was half-past two in the afternoon, half an hour before the planned time.
Christopher wasn’t used to waiting. Normally, he would get impatient waiting a minute or two for meetings.
But this time, he wasn’t impatient at all; not for thirty minutes, not even for three days and nights, as long as Seven would give him this chance.
Sitting in the booth, Christopher ordered himself a glass of ice water. At the moment, he was overly emotional and needed to calm down.
Although he had seen Seven countless times before, he was still unexpectedly nervous, his palms even sweating.
He drank three glasses of ice water in a row, yet his feelings of tension did not subside.
At 2:50, Seven’s silhouette appeared in the cafe, and upon seeing her, Christopher’s breath nearly stopped, yet he managed to pull up a composed smile.
Seeing Christopher, Seven quickly walked toward him, smilingly asking, "Have you been waiting long?"
Her mood was serene, as if she were meeting an ordinary friend.
"No, I just arrived a bit earlier than you." Both had arrived ahead of the agreed time.
Watching the nervousness in Christopher’s eyes, Seven knew he had been there for a while, aware of what he was about to say, and she was mentally prepared.
After ordering a coffee for herself, she lifted her head, smiled at Christopher, and said, "Merry Christmas!"
Christopher focused intently on Seven, past memories involuntarily flooding him as she wished him a Merry Christmas.
He remembered back when they were students, Seven would always give him gifts every Christmas, along with a round, red apple, saying it was to bless him with peace and safety.
Remembering those times, a bittersweet smile crept onto Christopher’s face, and the plethora of words he had prepared suddenly seemed hard to start with.
Seeing Christopher staring without speaking, Seven felt a bit awkward.
So she continued, "I heard the Scott Clan Group recently landed a big project; you must be busy!"
"It’s alright," Christopher replied calmly.
He hadn’t arranged to meet Seven to discuss work or ask if she was doing well; he wanted to talk about a future.
"Hmm! You all have good brains; I’m sure handling these things is no problem." Seven continued to chat absently, not showing any special affection toward Christopher.
Moreover, they now shared no special feelings, merely ordinary friends.
Christopher looked at Seven’s indifferent demeanor, took a deep breath, and gazing steadily into her eyes, pleaded, "Seven, can we start over?"
Seven had been back for nearly three months; finally, Christopher managed to voice this request to start anew. No one knew the courage it took for him to say these words.
In the past, whenever Christopher and Seven were together, it was always Seven confessing her feelings, chasing after him—a pattern they were accustomed to.
Now, changing the dynamic and asking Seven for another chance made Christopher’s palms sweat; in almost 27 years, he had never felt as nervous as he did at this moment.
As Christopher said he wanted to start over, Seven, who was flipping through the menu, suddenly paused.
Everything today was as she had anticipated, including these words to start over.
However, hearing Christopher say this sentence aloud, she realized how impactful it truly was.
If this had happened seven years ago, or on any random day before she returned, if Christopher had appeared before her and said these words to start again, Seven would have been moved to tears, held him tightly, and agreed without hesitation.
But now, she had lost heart.
Recalling how Christopher had troubled her at work recently, even threatened her with inappropriate demands, Seven no longer held any hope in him.
He was always so high and mighty, always waiting for her to plead, to admit fault, even when she wasn’t the one at fault.
Such unequal love was something Seven could no longer bear. During those seven years of Christopher’s coldness, she dreamed countless nights of him coming to find her, to explain that night’s misunderstanding, only to wake up realizing they were just dreams. She could not afford more dreams.
And indeed, during those seven years of her absence, Christopher didn’t search for her or offer any explanation.
Even after her return, he took extreme measures to give her a hard time.
