Chapter 592: Chapter 590: I Came to Escort Her [2nd Update]

"No, just get me a glass of milk." Sophia had never compromised so much for anyone.

However, after drinking for Christopher today, she didn’t say a word to him, as if she was truly only there to eat, and not to support him.

"Alright, alright! I’ll get you some milk right away." Maya frowned, feeling sorry for Sophia, not expecting this spoiled young lady to be so restrained.

Across the dining table, Hudson looked at Sophia’s silly appearance and then turned to Christopher, saying dismissively, "Actually, Sophia is really quite nice."

Christopher heard Hudson’s words and rolled his eyes coldly, saying, "Yes, she’s quite nice, go ahead and pursue her."

"..." Hudson was speechless, that was absolutely impossible.

While he didn’t dislike Sophia, he didn’t like her either, and certainly had no intention of pursuing her.

A moment later, the waiter brought Sophia a warm glass of milk. After finishing the milk, she picked up her chopsticks and started eating as if nothing had happened.

During the entire process, she didn’t look at Christopher directly, and his criticisms and dislike from yesterday swirled in her mind.

Sophia didn’t bear any grudges, nor did she blame Christopher, knowing that it was all self-inflicted pain she was enduring.

She avoided looking at Christopher not because she disliked him, but because she didn’t dare to.

She was afraid of making eye contact and seeing the dislike and disdain in his eyes, terrified that he might hurt her with harsh words in front of everyone, leaving her embarrassed.

So she had no choice but to suppress her concern for him, pretending she didn’t know him at all, pretending she was over him and indifferent.

Yet, her heart ached so, and she felt reluctant. She couldn’t understand why her affection had turned into a painful experience; it was a feeling she had never had before, and she hated this feeling, hated her inability to let go of Christopher and her desperate entanglement with him.

Beside her, Maya noticed Sophia’s restraint, bit her lower lip, and picked up her soup bowl, serving her a bowl of soup, worried that her stomach might still be uncomfortable.

"Thank you!" Sophia forced a smile and said thank you to Maya.

Watching Sophia’s calm demeanor, Maya felt deeply uncomfortable.

Though she hadn’t known Sophia for long, it was the first time she’d seen her so subdued, so lacking in confidence.

As the engagement party was about to end, Sophia pulled Maya along to the restroom.

At the restroom door, Maya stood with a frown while Sophia was inside splashing her face with cold water, her face flushed from the alcohol, feeling uncomfortable.

That’s when Christopher suddenly walked out of the men’s restroom.

Seeing Maya, he hesitated for a moment, recalling Maya’s reproach from last night about pushing Sophia.

Christopher found himself in an awkward position, raising a helpless smile as he slowly approached Maya to explain, "Maya, I was too impulsive yesterday. I shouldn’t have pushed Sophia. Please tell her I’m sorry."

"Sophia won’t mind, everyone understands you. Just try to come to terms with it yourself." Maya said calmly.

"If you have a suitable opportunity, please persuade Sophia not to waste her time on me. There’s no possibility between us." Christopher had never planned on being with anyone.

"Yeah, don’t worry, she only has a short attention span; she won’t bother you for long." Maya knew Sophia was serious this time but chose not to persuade Christopher.

She understood that if she spoke for Sophia, it would only make Christopher even more annoyed with her, so it was better to leave Sophia with some dignity.

"Alright, I’ll be going before you."

Behind the restroom door, Sophia clearly overheard the conversation between Christopher and Maya.

After everything that had transpired, Christopher’s dislike for her hadn’t diminished in the least. Sophia leaned against the door, feeling dizzy, not only physically uncomfortable but emotionally wounded as well.

Once she composed herself and walked out of the restroom, she behaved as if nothing had happened, pulling Maya along, talking and laughing.

When the two returned to the banquet hall, everyone was already preparing to leave.

Liam saw Maya had returned, placed his right hand on her shoulder, pinching her chin, said, "Maya, Chairman Bennett has invited us over for dinner tonight, but before that, we need to go to the company to deal with some matters."

"Alright! Sophia will still come with us, and when you’re done, we’ll go there together." Mentioning James Bennett made Maya’s mind swirl with questions, as the man always invited her and Liam for dinner every few days, and their relationship was getting closer.

"Maya, I’m feeling a headache; I’ll go back and wait for you." At this moment, Sophia was feeling particularly upset, unwilling to follow behind Liam and Maya, watching them be affectionate, making her feel even worse.

"But your car is still parked at our place, how will you get back?" Maya was worried about her taking a taxi home alone.

Sophia was in a bad mood, fearful she might do something silly, especially since she had dared to call Ian Hobbs to bring Seven Murray back; what else might she not do?

"I’m alright, you guys go ahead and get busy, I’ll have the driver come pick me up." Sophia forced a smile, calmly stating.

"Liam, Maya, you guys go ahead, I’ll take her back." Christopher, standing to the side, overheard the three’s conversation and suggested he take Sophia home.

Sophia was instantly stunned, as was Maya, and Maya’s face turned grim.

She had just encountered Christopher at the restroom door, where he asked her to persuade Sophia not to pursue him. Yet now, he was offering to take Sophia home himself; surely, he wouldn’t treat Sophia well, surely he would say something to break her heart.

Maya was worried but didn’t know how to refuse Christopher’s kind gesture. She couldn’t exactly treat him as an enemy to guard against.

However, Sophia suddenly seemed rejuvenated, her eyebrows dancing with excitement.

Last night’s harsh words from Christopher, she had forgotten.

The words Christopher said to Maya at the restroom door, she chose also to forget.

She assumed Christopher had seen Seven and Ian reaching their conclusion, and thus suddenly thought of her; she believed he had noticed her good qualities, wanting to try for possible development.

For the moment, Sophia’s body wasn’t uncomfortable, nor was her heart; she felt as if she were flying in the sky with joy.

"Thank you!" She then pursed her lips and smiled, saying thank you to Christopher.

Maya looked at Sophia, suddenly transformed as if anew, and raised her right hand to pat her forehead, wanting to cry without tears, thinking how naive Sophia was; didn’t she fear Christopher’s politeness was only a prelude to causing her discomfort? Why hadn’t she learned her lesson yet?

Maya understood Sophia’s little thoughts, yet truly couldn’t fathom how Sophia’s nerves could be so thick-skinned; she practically wanted to bow down.

Liam saw the worry in Maya’s brow and slowly bent down, whispered in her ear, gently reminding, "Christopher is clear-minded now, he knows exactly what he’s doing."
