No Trespassing! My Aloof Brother-Chapter 599 - 597 Let’s Talk [Part 4]
James Bennett looked at the document in Maya Spencer’s hand, and his heart suddenly jolted. He thought, "Oh no, I left the test report in the desk drawer. She must have seen it."
James took a deep breath, feigning calmness as he looked at Maya and asked with a smile, "Maya, why are you upset? Did Liam bully you? If Liam bullied you, Brother Bennett will help you teach him a lesson."
Maya looked at the man’s calm smile at the corner of his mouth, trembling with anger. She couldn’t understand how this man could still smile. He had done such a disgraceful thing, abandoning the woman he slept with, regardless of whether she could endure it, or if she would give birth to his child. How could he live so carefree?
Watching James approaching step by step, Maya suddenly stood up from her chair, glaring at him with fury.
The man saw the girl’s serious expression and the anger in her eyes. He withdrew his smile and stopped in front of her, waiting for her rage to erupt.
Although he had never seen Maya angry, from her usual straightforwardness, he could tell that when she did turn against someone, she would be ruthless.
He also knew that this matter couldn’t be kept secret for long. Even if one day he confessed the truth to Maya, she would still be furious.
Therefore, he was fully prepared to accept Maya’s reproach. Over the years, he indeed had not done well, and he could only blame himself for being too timid and hiding for too long.
Though he deeply regretted it at this moment, he couldn’t change anything and could only accept Maya’s blame.
Maya looked at James standing opposite her, took a deep breath, and with a "snap," threw the diary and the DNA test report in front of him, angrily demanding, "Chairman Bennett, can you give me an explanation?"
Maya was consumed by anger at this moment. Even if James wanted to explain to her, she couldn’t listen.
So, James simply replied calmly, "Maya, calm down. Let’s sit and talk."
Hearing his words to calm down, Maya was raging. She had been abandoned for almost twenty-three years, and finally, she saw the man responsible, the irresponsible man. How could he tell her to calm down?
Maya thought that she was already lenient and calm enough not to storm into his house with a gun and shoot him, making him accompany her mom in the grave.
She continued to breathe deeply, trying to face James with an indifferent attitude.
However, her emotions were completely out of control, and she couldn’t endure it for a second.
So, she suddenly walked out from behind the desk, stood in front of James, raised her small hand, clutched his collar tightly, and questioned, "Tell me, is my mother’s death related to you? Did you kill my mom?"
"What right do you have to sleep with my mom and then ignore her? Don’t you know she might have your child? How could you make her raise me alone? Do you know what she has gone through all these years? Do you know she didn’t even dare to go out?"
"Because once she stepped out, she would be pointed at and ridiculed for having a child out of wedlock."
"Do you know what it felt like when I was mocked for not having a father?"
"Now you inexplicably appear in front of me. What do you want? What exactly do you intend to do? What gives you the right to approach me? The right to try to reclaim me?"
James watched the girl’s aggressive demeanor and heard her barrage of questions, not knowing where to begin answering.
He could see her anger, her despair, and even her desire to kill him.
He had a thousand words and a heap of things he wanted to say to her, a pile of remorse towards her. But facing the unstable Maya, James didn’t dare to explain or speak.
Because the more he explained, the more agitated Maya would become, and her eyes were already showing a bit of confusion. He feared she might lose her mind.
Therefore, he could only hold her shoulders earnestly and say, "Maya, I admit I didn’t do well. I didn’t take responsibility for you, nor for Madelyn. But please calm down first, and once you’ve calmed, I’ll explain properly, okay?"
Hearing James’s plea, hearing his intention to explain, Maya’s eyes widened fiercely. She suddenly shook off his hand from her arm, furrowed her brows, and fixed him with a stare, questioning, "Explain? How do you plan to explain? Do you think your explanation can undo the years of suffering my mom and I endured? Do you think your explanation can bring my mom back to life? Do you think your explanation can earn my forgiveness and make me forgive you?"
"James Bennett, I’m telling you, I will not forgive you, not in this lifetime, and I will never acknowledge you as my father."
"If it weren’t for you making my mom pregnant, if it weren’t for you abandoning her, would my mom have been so pitiful, unable to get married with me in tow, and died so early?"
Maya began to suspect that Edward Spencer didn’t marry her mom because of her, because Edward once said that from the moment she was born, he knew she wasn’t his child, but he never exposed the matter to avoid hurting her mom’s feelings.
Maybe it was because her mom made that mistake, so Edward was unwilling to marry her.
Thinking of this, Maya’s hatred for James deepened, and she really felt an urge to kill him.
Her mom’s life wasn’t destroyed by Edward Spencer but by James Bennett. Her mom trusted him so much, having grown up with him, sharing her troubles with him, yet he wanted to sleep with her mom and actually did it.
Maya glared angrily at James, almost wishing she could kill him with her own hands.
A few days ago, when she saw this man, she didn’t hate him this much, but at this moment, her feelings towards him were nothing but hatred.
She couldn’t understand how he could approach her so complacently and pretend to be her friend. Didn’t he think of her mom when he saw her? Didn’t he think of how her mom suffered for him all her life? He really ruined her mom completely.
Listening to Maya’s questioning and hearing her blame Madelyn Hanson’s death on him, James felt helpless. Ever since Madelyn died, he had been blaming himself like this. So, facing Maya’s accusations, he couldn’t find an excuse, couldn’t utter a word in defense.
Maya watched the man rendered speechless with increasing anger. To her, James’s silence signified disdain.
He disdained her mom’s death, didn’t care that he shirked his responsibilities as a father, and felt no guilt over the grievances she endured.
Maya was angry, Maya hated, yet she couldn’t do anything to James.
In arguments, the worst situation is when the other person ignores you, even if you have a hundred reasons to win the argument, they simply don’t care.
