Chapter 612: Chapter 610: She Felt Guilty [2nd Update]

That night, the two girls held each other tightly and cried the entire night.

The next morning, Ella rose early to cook millet porridge for Maya Spencer. She quietly called Elijah Reed from the kitchen, asking about James Bennett’s and Liam Spencer’s situations.

On the other end of the line, Elijah calmly said, "Chairman Bennett is still in a coma. If Miss Spencer could come to see him and talk to him, I believe it would be effective. The boss has gone abroad and will probably return in a few days."

"Hmm! Let me know if you hear anything new. Maya cried all night last night, and I think she’s about to break down. As for Liam, even when he’s abroad, he doesn’t know to call Maya? He clearly knows she cares about him," Ella puffed her lips, complaining unhappily.

"Maybe he’s tied up." Elijah answered evasively. He actually knew that Liam deliberately ignored Maya, giving her a few days to calm down. When he returned, he’d coax her, and she’d forgive him instantly.

Moreover, he was indeed very busy these days, busy bringing back the best doctor for James Bennett. To show his sincerity, Liam didn’t have Elijah fetch the doctor; he went to pick up the doctor himself.

After a few casual exchanges, they hung up and went about their business.

When Ella came out of the kitchen, Maya was standing in the middle of the living room, staring at the kitchen, having overheard Ella’s conversation with Elijah.

Her swollen eyes looked at Ella with grievance, wanting to ask something but hesitating.

Ella, noticing the grievance in Maya’s eyes, quickly grabbed her hand and explained, "Maya, the principal has gone abroad for business these days, he’s busy."

"Hmm!" Maya replied weakly, while in her heart, remembering what Ella had said earlier: even if he was abroad, didn’t he know to call her? Didn’t he know she was suffering?

Liam’s absence made her feel more and more tormented.

"I made porridge for you, come and try it. After eating, we’ll go to the hospital together to see Chairman Bennett, okay?" Ella asked cautiously.

She knew Maya was worried about James Bennett and aware of her fears; thus, she was particularly careful when asking her.

"Okay!" This time, Maya finally didn’t put up a front and chose to relent.

Because she feared that if she didn’t see James Bennett now, she might find him lifeless the next time. After calming down, Maya still wanted to apologize, to say it wasn’t intentional to push him down the stairs.

"Phew..." Seeing Maya finally relent, Ella let out a long sigh of relief.

She believed that if Maya could forgive James Bennett for being absent for nearly 23 years of her life, call him "Dad," and spend more time with him, James Bennett would definitely wake up. After all, he hadn’t spent much time with this daughter; he wouldn’t be so heartless as to sleep through it all, nor would he leave Maya feeling guilty and sad forever.

So, after breakfast, the two of them changed clothes and prepared to head to the hospital to visit James Bennett.

In the center of the living room, Maya clenched her fists tightly, biting her lower lip, and looked at Ella, asking, "Ella, do you think he will forgive me?"

Maya still remembered that night at the hospital, Sophia Bennett was looking for her desperately. She felt guilty.

The current Maya was much more emotional than before. If it were three years ago, she wouldn’t have cared so much; her heart was filled with hatred, and she wouldn’t have noticed any good in James Bennett.

But today, Maya is sentimental. Even if she turns into a little hedgehog, she’d quickly retract her quills, afraid of hurting others again.

Ella, hearing Maya’s worries, patted her shoulders and comforted her, "Chairman Bennett never blamed you; we all know you didn’t mean it."

"Knock knock knock..." Just as Ella finished speaking, there was a knock on the door of the apartment.

The two girls exchanged glances, looking at each other, wondering who it could be at this time when Liam is abroad and Elijah is at work.

Ella took a deep breath, turned to the hallway, and opened the door, only to see a middle-aged man in formal attire standing at the apartment entrance.

Ella sized up the man, knitting her brows, and asked, "Sir, who are you looking for?"

"Is this Miss Maya Spencer’s residence?" the man asked politely.

Standing in the middle of the living room, Maya heard the man was looking for her, and she hastily stepped forward, standing beside Ella, and asked, "What do you want?"

The man, hearing Maya’s question, sized her up, smiled slightly at her, and explained, "Hello Miss Spencer, I am Chairman Bennett’s assistant, my surname is Thompson. You can call me Assistant Thompson. There is a place I would like to take you to see, and there are some things I want to explain to you. I wonder if Miss Spencer would be willing to spare two or three hours to accompany me on this trip."

Upon hearing the man claim to be James Bennett’s secretary, Ella quickly spread her arms to block in front of Maya, glaring at the man fiercely, saying, "Just because you say you’re Chairman Bennett’s assistant, we’re supposed to believe you? What if you’re a fraud?"

Maya had been kidnapped once, and now that she’s quite wealthy, Ella wouldn’t dare let Maya go with someone so lightly.

The middle-aged man, seeing Ella’s wariness, raised the corners of his mouth in a composed smile, then took out his mobile phone and searched his name on the internet. His profile appeared on the webpage, accompanied by a photo, clearly identifying him as James Bennett’s assistant.

Maya stared at him steadily, having already guessed most of what he wanted to say to her.

If it had been two days ago, Maya might not have paid him any mind, nor followed him anywhere.

But today, her anger had dissipated, and she planned to visit James Bennett. If she could learn more about him before visiting, she wouldn’t mind.

So, she nodded and said, "Okay!"

Then, Ella accompanied her as they followed the middle-aged man downstairs.

Outside the apartment building, a vehicle was already waiting for them. The man very gentlemanly opened the door for the two girls, then sat himself in the passenger seat.

As Maya got into the car, she noticed the driver was James Bennett’s usual chauffeur, so she felt no other apprehension toward Assistant Thompson.

Once the vehicle started, Maya and Ella were taken to the outskirts of S City. Although sparsely populated and with few vehicles on the road, the traffic was excellent, and the scenery was breathtakingly beautiful. Even though it was already December 29th, the trees here remained lush and green.

Maya, accustomed to the sight of skyscrapers and busy streets, felt like she had entered a grand forest upon seeing the outskirts. Her mood lifted.

An hour later, Maya and Ella were brought to the foot of a house. Rather than a villa, it seemed more apt to call it a castle, as it was more beautiful than any villa she’d ever seen, even more beautiful than those she’d seen at the manor.

Maya got out of the car and stood outside the ’castle’. She looked up at the high walls of the courtyard, seeing the lush and shapely trees inside. It seemed as if she saw a tree that looked like a giraffe.
