Noble Pampering: Demon CEO's Relentless Entanglement-Chapter 664 - 660: It’s Time to End (Part 7)
"Asher Land, is what’s on the news true?" As soon as the call connected, Sophie Smith’s anxious and urgent voice reached his ears.
"It’s true." Even though she hadn’t specified what the matter was, he could sense exactly what she was referring to.
"Your father, did he really, really pass away?" Sophie hesitantly asked again.
Father?
"Haven’t I already told you? He’s not my father." Asher Land’s voice showed no emotion, plain and indifferent, leaving Sophie momentarily at a loss.
"I don’t need comfort, don’t worry about me, I’m fine." Asher spoke naturally, "Give it a few days, and once everything is handled, I’ll come to pick you and Alexander up."
"Oh..."
He spoke methodically, and Sophie obediently listened.
"It’s getting late, rest early." Asher didn’t say much more before hanging up, leaving Sophie with a slight feeling of disappointment.
From his tone, she could feel that he wasn’t in a good mood, yet he was unwilling to say much to her, this feeling of estrangement made her somewhat scared. Perhaps sometimes, he was doing it for her sake, not wanting her to worry, but she really wanted to help share his burdens.
Holding the phone listlessly, she sat down on the sofa in the hall, staring blankly at a plate of fruit on the coffee table.
Eva Miller came down the stairs, and upon seeing Sophie in such a dazed state, couldn’t help but frown.
"What’s wrong with you?" Eva grabbed an apple, taking a big bite, "You didn’t have a fight with President Land again, did you?"
Eva glanced at the phone in Sophie’s hand, and seeing her worried expression, she had a hint of understanding.
"Eva, I feel like there’s a bit of distance between me and Asher," Sophie hesitated before speaking, Asher’s slightly cold attitude tonight made her somewhat doubtful.
"No way." Eva exaggeratedly opened her mouth wide, "What do you mean, a bit of distance? Has President Land lost feelings for you? Or have you lost feelings for him?"
"I, I didn’t mean it like that." She paused for a while, as if contemplating something, "Maybe I’m just being overly sensitive, it’s nothing."
Sophie didn’t want to say much, she and Asher had been waiting for the clouds to part and the moon to shine, she didn’t want to be swayed by some chaotic thoughts.
"As long as you know." Eva tossed the apple core into the trash can, then casually said, "I certainly don’t know President Land as well as you do, but from an outsider’s perspective, I think he’s really good to you."
"If in this life I could meet a man like him, I would definitely not hesitate to grasp it."
Eva had a look of longing on her face, her mind involuntarily drifting to the image of Oliver Johnson.
"Perhaps, Brother Johnson is also a good man like President Land. It’s just a pity..."
Eva sighed lightly, it’s just a pity his goodness isn’t meant for her.
Some things are unattainable in a lifetime.
The sadness in Sophie’s mood instantly shifted to Eva, whose emotions could change quickly from crying to laughing, making it hard for most people to handle.
"Sophie, you should be heading back to Eastern City soon, right? I haven’t visited Brother Johnson in a long time." Eva had promised Nolan Davis to stay with Sophie here, and she hadn’t broken that promise, but staying at the Davis Family long-term wasn’t a viable plan.
