Not Being a Trainer This Time-Chapter 563 - 318: Infernal Pass, Slugma, and Ghosts
"This is the community center, and you’ll be resting here tonight!" Yukiko led Naoki to a two-story building and introduced it to him, "Tomorrow, the village head will take you to tour Kitakami’s rice fields and apple garden."
"Alright." After a day of traveling, Naoki indeed felt a bit tired.
Yukiko pushed open the door of the community center, and Naoki walked in. After showing his ID badge to the front desk staff, he heard the person say:
"Welcome to Kitakami, your room is on the second floor. For meals, you can head to the restaurant on the right; the village head has already prepared a welcome dinner for you."
Naoki nodded and then went upstairs to place his luggage in the room. Afterward, he returned to the lobby and, led by Yukiko, arrived at the community center’s restaurant.
A bald elderly man, wearing a kimono, with glasses and a white beard, was already waiting there.
Upon seeing Naoki arrive, he promptly came forward with a bright smile and extended his hand:
"Oh my, you must be Mr. Naoki, the one from the Paldea Region here for agricultural exchange, right? I’m the head of Kitakami and also the mayor of this town. I’m so glad you could come here!"
"Hello, Mr. Village Head." Naoki extended his hand, and after a brief self-introduction, the group sat down at the dining table.
Kitakami had prepared apple pie, candied apples, sticky rice cakes, mushroom soup, sushi, and other dishes for dinner.
Though not particularly lavish, these foods were full of local flavor.
At the table, the village head introduced the itinerary for the agricultural exchange to him:
"Tomorrow morning, I’ll accompany you to visit Kitakami’s rice fields. By the way, there aren’t any rice fields in the Paldea Region, are there?"
Naoki thought for a moment, shook his head, and said, "The principal crops grown in the Paldea Region are wheat and corn. As for rice, you don’t see much of it; at least not near Porto Marinada Town, and I’m not sure about other areas."
"I see!" the village head smiled and nodded, "The food production in Porto Marinada Town was spectacular last year, it even made it to the World Agricultural News!"
Naoki smiled slightly, "Last year, Porto Marinada Town had favorable weather and climate throughout the year, perfectly ideal for crop growth. Moreover, the locals there revere the great King of Bountiful Harvests."
"The King of Bountiful Harvests?" The village head was very surprised, with a curious expression on his face.
Naoki nodded, "It’s said to be a Legendary Pokemon that can make the soil fertile and ensure a bountiful harvest. Farmers who worship it are said to enjoy favorable weather and abundant crops all year round."
"For this reason, people affectionately call it the King of Bountiful Harvests and have built a shrine for it, holding yearly festivals to express their gratitude."
"Is there really such a thing..." The village head was quite taken aback.
Naoki nodded slightly, "Perhaps Calyrex saw the hardworking people toiling earnestly on the land, was moved by their perseverance, and thus bestowed abundance upon them."
"Calyrex?" The village head was momentarily confused.
"That’s the title of the King of Bountiful Harvests," Naoki explained.
"Calyrex... the Legend of the King of Bountiful Harvests..." the village head muttered to himself, etching the name into his memory, "That said, we also have a Legend of Pokemon here in Kitakami!"
A Legendary Pokemon too? Naoki thought of the things he had read in the travel guide earlier and raised an eyebrow before asking, "A ghost legend?"
"Huh? You know about it?" The village head was genuinely surprised.
Naoki: "I skimmed through Kitakami’s travel guide on the way here."
The village head realized, "I see!"
Happily, he explained, "Indeed, Kitakami has erected statues for the three Loyal Three Pokemon who sacrificed themselves to protect the town, drawing many Trainers and tourists, thanks to this legend!"
"Because of them, this remote small town, which originally survived on farming, has kept pace with the times, growing increasingly prosperous."
Naoki nodded thoughtfully.
Developing tourism by leveraging the fame of Legendary Pokemon?
"The Loyal Three Statue is located at Loyalty Plaza in the northwest part of the town. After tomorrow’s busy schedule, you can go take a stroll there," the village head said.
Naoki indeed intended to do that, "Sure."
"Then it’s settled," the village head smiled kindly, "Tonight, rest well at the community center! If you can’t sleep, feel free to wander around the town."
After dinner, the village head left the community center and went home.
The well-fed Naoki also returned to his room and began to sleep.
Early the next day, Naoki got up bright and early. After having breakfast, he met with the village head and others and headed to the rice fields outside town to observe the farmers planting seedlings and cultivating rice paddies.
A few Wooper and Corphish, working in the field, stood on the ridge observing the situation here. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Naoki watched for a while, then with Koraidon, he joined in, experiencing the local seedling planting work.
"How is it? Are you getting used to it?" the village head inquired.
Naoki nodded; this work was relatively easy for him, "Unfortunately, Porto Marinada Town isn’t suitable for planting rice."
The farms and ranches in Porto Marinada Town mainly focus on livestock farming, with the crops planted throughout the year primarily being wheat and corn.
