Chapter 122: Smart Choice

Leo watched as the giant crumbled to his power and was lying dead in the jungle, which made him smile. Seconds later, he waved his hand and dumped the corpse in the Monster Domain.

Following that, he noticed several monsters fleeing from the area, but one caught his attention. Leo started chasing the creature, only to see it was a mantis monster with a black exoskeleton and four long scythes.

’These would be obedient soldiers and good to fight the demon armies with before turning south,’ he pondered with an excited glint in his eyes before using mana to hide himself.

Leo quickly noticed the jungle was alive with the hum of insects and the rustle of unseen creatures. He silently followed through the thick underbrush, his eyes fixed on the Mantis monsters ahead.

Their long, spindly limbs moved with unnatural grace as they navigated the primal jungles treetops. He kept his distance, careful not to make a sound, the thick scent of earth and damp leaves masking his presence.

The creatures, oblivious to his pursuit, continued deeper into the jungle. Leo’s breath was steady as the trail led him through twisting vines, sharp thorns, and the humid heat of the jungle.

’’Damn weather is getting annoying,’’ he muttered.

As the sun dipped lower, casting long shadows across the jungle floor, they reached the base of a towering mountain. The landscape shifted, dense trees giving way to jagged rocks and steep inclines.

Leo crouched behind a boulder, watching as the Mantis monsters approached the mountain’s side. The creatures paused for a moment, as if sensing something, but then they turned toward a narrow cave entrance hidden beneath the overhang of rocks.

He could see them entering one by one, their eerie, insectoid forms vanishing into the darkness. Leo hesitated at the mouth of the cave, his breath shallow as the cool, damp air brushed against his skin.

Shadows flickered from the dim light that seeped in behind him, but it wasn’t enough to mask the scene inside. His boots crunched softly against the uneven ground as he stepped forward.

It took only a moment for his eyes to adjust, and when they did, a wave of unease washed over him. The cave floor was littered with bones, some human. Scattered among them were broken exoskeletons, their jagged edges glinting faintly like shards of dull glass.

The air was thick with the metallic tang of decay and something else, something faintly sweet but deeply wrong. He crouched, picking up a fragment of a snapped exoskeleton. It was unnervingly light, yet sturdy.

Leo turned it over in his hands, his brow furrowing as his eyes scanned the cavern further. ’It’s the creature’s home, I assume,’ he mused. ’Now to capture them for myself.’

Following that, he continued traveling down the tunnel, only for the smell of rotten meat and blood got stronger. Ten minutes later, Leo appeared in the first chamber as some monsters scuttled around while carrying eggs.

The narrow tunnel twisted and turned, its damp walls closing in around Leo as he moved deeper into the darkness. The faint clicking he had heard earlier grew louder, reverberating off the stone and vibrating in his chest.

His grip on his blade tightened, every muscle in his body tensed. Then, the tunnel opened up abruptly, and Leo stepped into a massive chamber while thinking, ’I guess it looks like I’m building an insect army.’

The cavern was enormous, its ceiling disappearing into shadow. Stalactites hung like jagged teeth, and the dim glow of bioluminescent fungi clung to the walls, casting an eerie green light over the space.

In the center of the chamber, surrounded by a swarm of smaller Mantis monsters, was the Queen. She was massive, easily twice the size of the others. Her exo skeleton body shimmered, and her long, blade-like forelimbs clicked against the stone as she shifted.

Leo noticed that her many eyes glinted in the faint light, each one reflecting a cold, calculating intelligence. When spotting that, he dismissed his mana, that revealed himself to all the monsters.

A loud screeching noise rang out, causing some creatures to lunge at him, but he just stood there with a knowing smile. As they got close, he quickly cast Mana Barrier, that blocked the attacks.

With a chuckle, Leo cast Doomwave, that sent the mantis monsters crashing into the nearby walls. Following that, he dashed forward and landed a California Smash, shattered one of the monsters’ exo skeletons.

The force caused a boom that sent more of them flying. Leo quickly aimed his hand at the creatures before casting Thunderbolts and Fireballs at them. He watched as the spells sliced through the air and destroyed the attackers.

When Leo saw this, he leaped at the mantis queen before landing a Supernova Punch that sent her crashing along the ground. He landed with a thud and started approaching the downed monster.

As he got close, the creature thrust one of her scythes at him but Leo sidestepped the attack and hit it with a California Smash which broke it within seconds, causing her to let out a pain-filled screech.

Leo chuckled at her reaction before giving the queen an offer she couldn’t refuse. ’’You and your children will serve me in the upcoming war with the continent or I’ll wipe out your race right now.’’

The monster tensed, ready to refuse, but froze when she noticed his eyes glowing an intense, otherworldly blue. It wasn’t just a glare; it was a promise, a silent warning that defiance would not end well.

When the Queen heard this, she hesitated, her instincts warring with her pride, but then she bowed low, her massive form lowering in submission. One by one, the others followed suit, their heads dipping to the ground in deference.

Leo’s lips curled into a satisfied smile. ’’Smart choice,’’ he said, his voice brimming with confidence. ’’Now, head into your new home so I can go deal with the demons. Grow strong, and when you’re ready, I’ll call on you.’’

As that happened, a notification popped up, which made him happy.

’Oh nice, but now it’s time to head for the demon empire to deal with them,’ he pondered before leaving the empty colony behind.

Following that, Leo appeared outside the caves before soaring into the sky, only to see a river in the distance. He flew toward it while using his mana to speed up, causing a sonic boom to ring out across the landscape.

His blonde hair flew everywhere, but as he closed in on the river, he spotted a fortress further away. Leo sped up just as dozens of spells flew in his direction, causing him to dive as the projectiles flew over him.

He skirted just about the water as the demons continued to target him, but when he got closer, he started casting Thunderbolts and Fireballs into the walls, causing explosions to erupt.

Soldiers were hurled from the walls like rag dolls as the impact reverberated through the fortress. Leo moved in a blur, accelerating with inhuman speed until he appeared above the chaos.

Without hesitation, he dropped from the sky like a meteor, slamming into the courtyard below. The ground erupted beneath him, the sheer force of his landing sending shockwaves through the fortress.

Walls trembled, debris rained down, and the entire structure seemed to groan under the impact. Soldiers nearby stumbled, their expressions a mix of awe and terror as they turned to face him.

The dust hadn’t even settled from his landing before he lunged into action with glowing eyes. His fists became a blur of steel and fury as he tore through the demon soldiers. One charged at him with a roar, only for Leo to sidestep effortlessly punched the foe.

Blood sprayed across the courtyard, the dark ichor staining the shattered stone as his fist pierced the enemy’s chest. A group of demons attempted to flank him, but Leo’s glowing blue eyes caught their movement.

With a burst of speed, he closed the distance while using California Smash that destroyed anything the attacks touched. Loud claps echoed across the land as panic descended on the fortress.

Screams filled the air as the demons fell one by one. Some tried to flee, but Leo wasn’t about to let them escape. He threw out his hand and cast a Thunderbolt that tore through their ranks, leaving charred remains in its wake.

An hour later, the castle was littered with the bodies of the fallen demon soldiers, but Leo didn’t stop. His expression was stony, his movements deadly efficient, as he hunted down every demon.

After finishing off the remaining enemies, Leo wasted no time. He dashed toward the next castle, eliminating it in a single, devastating assault. With that, he tore through the demon empire’s borderlands, reducing fortress after fortress to rubble.
