Nyxfall 7: The Veilbreakers-Chapter 59: The Grimhorn Den 3
The Vurkrash was somewhat expertly handled by Bella, Prince, Jor, Mimi, and Jayden. The powerful charges were mostly interrupted by Bella’s furious red punches. Once in a while, though, she missed, and Prince’s purple sword hand would release powerful slashes to hold it.
That wasn’t always the case, though, as once in a while both missed, and some of them took a bit of damage. They could handle it enough, that a few of them had enough time to heal up.
The damage piled up slowly, Kai’s powerful arrows leaving 110–120 damages, contributing third highest to it. The Maeka’s bow was powerful, but it was still a level 12 weapon. It was already pretty good of it that Kai could use it against a Lv.21 boss. Soon, he would have to change his bow. The infinite arrow feature would be really missed, though.
Zayden was doing quite well for a new player. It was clear to see that the guy had played hand-to-hand fighting games before. The martial arts skill might help in fighting, but a mindset and decisions were always in the player’s hands. In an environment where anyone could learn anything if he or she put enough effort and time into it, the best among them were distinguished by their ability to judge what to use when and by their strong mentality. Knowledge alone did not make a warrior.
And this was clear to see in Bella and Zayden. Zayden was still not quite used to it and lacked good enough skills; the only skill he had acquired from the NPC family he was born to was Earth Wall. The guy could create a dirt wall at high MP cost whenever he wanted on the ground. It had a starting action, though — a punch on the ground was required to activate the skill. Some skills were like that — there were thousands of skills, one weirder than the other.
For a new player, the level of skills Bella was showing was indeed quite impressive. More like it was really rare — could even be called a rough professional level talent. According to her, she had never played any other game in NOVA headgear. She had just bought it, and this was her first VR game ever. She did imply that she had received martial arts training before, so that could be the reason.
Her skill, called Ghostbreaker, was actually perfect for her fighting style. It was a summon type and created two massive red fists covering her real ones, doubling her damage and defense if the attack was received on the huge ethereal hands.
Zayden had learned the basic fighting skill from her on the way since he barely had time to get any skills in the city.
The big bear tried to use his grab attack on Mimi. Prince’s purple sword managed to parry, but the grab attack could not be parried — it had to be dodged. Prince was grabbed in Mimi’s place. The bear bit her shoulder and slammed her on the ground mercilessly before trampling over her and continuing the attack on Bella and others.
His mom’s HP was below 25%.
Before the boss would turn back, she had to get away. It was about time anyway; the boss was near 80% HP. Kai stored away his bow and pulled out his sword, joining the constant attack, defend, parry, and dodge rhythm.
With Vurkrash’s back covered by Kai, Prince got away and healed beside Sherry. Kai spoke up,
"One by one, go heal up if you need to."
"I will go first," Mimi said as she pulled back. She was doing the worst out of all five of them.
Vurkrash may be a slower and easier-to-deal-with boss compared to Hollow King, but the guy had high damage being level 21. It was still a mini boss and had limited skills. Only the grab skill needed to be dodged, and the charge skill had to be parried with a powerful attack or skill. Other than that, it was not that big a deal.
Kai slashed one by one three times before the bear turned around and used his huge clawed hand to strike him down. Kai had seen the attack coming from miles away. He simply sidestepped and delivered four more attacks. The bear used his charge against him as Bella punched its back relentlessly.
Kai was level 22, and his sword attack peaked at 140 to 160. He could easily interrupt it. He did so and landed three more slashes before the bear turned back to break Bella’s continuous barrage of attacks, giving his back to Kai — needless to say, he slashed it at lightning speed, a constant -100, -120, -130 appearing on the guy’s head, in seconds making it go below 75%.
The bear released a massive surge of rust-colored energy, pushing all of them back. Numerous Whelps grew out of the ground, running straight towards Kai and the others who were near the boss.
Kai buried his sword in the ground, getting pushed back, and immediately forced himself to stop and move forward as he screamed out loud,
"PROTECT US.."
Quickly, Kai ran up to the Vurkrash and slashed left and right on its massive chest while dodging the slow, powerful clawed hands — not letting the guy move from the spot. Hurriedly, all others except Bella and his mother formed a circle around them, keeping the Whelps at bay and not letting them interfere in the battle.
Bella also reached near the boss behind its back and launched a flurry of her attacks. Prince joined at last, standing in between Kai and Bella, attacking from the side. The perfect dodges, timely interrupts, and continuous heavy damage overwhelmed the mini boss. Kai damaged it quicker and more furiously than the other two, so the bear would face him the longest and keep his back towards the other two.
"Good job, keep it up," Kai said as Bella and Prince faced the bear and kept up with its attacks and skills.
In minutes, the Whelps died and the boss went below 50%, getting enraged. With a roar, the bear got a bit bigger, the veins popping on its muscles as the flurry of attacks doubled in speed. But it was still manageable as all of them had circled around it and were attacking while maintaining a rhythm.
Once again, when it went below 30%, the Whelps were summoned, but the result was the same as before. This time, Kai killed a few Whelps in between the attacks since Bella and Prince had gotten quite used to handling the boss’s limited attack patterns. Once in a while, it did something unexpected and surprised them, but it was slow, and Kai was much faster with pretty good attack damage being level 22, He handled it before things went out of control.
In less than 10 minutes of entering the first mini boss room, Bella delivered the final punch, shattering the huge bear into millions of red particles.
