Nyxfall 7: The Veilbreakers-Chapter 71: Another Deal
Kai revived back near his inn. When he came out of his room, Mimi, Prince, and others were already there — standing in a circle talking, or more like arguing about what had gone wrong.
Zayden was being called out for not asking for help when he got overwhelmed by the creepers, Mimi was accused of dying too soon because she didn’t know how to play, Bella was receiving comments on bossing around them even though she had no idea what she was doing. Etc..
Kai had seen such scenes too many times before and knew they all were just dealing with their failure in the worst possible way — Blaming others. He too had done it many times to others, and he too had been on the other end of it. Kai simply walked near them, everyone noticed him and started to include him in their arguments, asking whether they were right or not.
He just simply raised his hands to calm them down as he said, "Guys, guys.. Enough. I get it. We failed. It happens.. Pointing fingers is not going to help, let’s just take a small break — we will try again in five hours. It’s up to you what you do in those real-life five hours — I suggest logging off and eating or doing something else to cool down. Come online an hour early so we can plan what to do in landing planets."
Everyone turned their faces away from each other and nodded. Then they logged off one by one.
"Lunch?" his mother asked.
Kai smiled and nodded. He had noticed her standing to the side and not engaging in the argument. Sherry and Jor were somewhat similar too, but they were actually saying things once in a while and were not as calm as her.
Kai was about to log off when he received a text from Xterminate07,
X: Give me that footage of the boss and the third section’s mobs you have.
Kai: Give me my 600 gold first.
X: Fine, fine. I will give them in a few hours. Also, tell me where you bought that poison resistance potion.
Kai: Sure, I will tell you everything in a few hours.
X: You!
X: Meet me near the statue. I will bring the gold.
Kai: My, how wealthy.
X: IT’S LAST OF OUR GUILD FUNDS!!
Kai: You sending your other guild members to tackle the dungeon with new info?
X: ...
It was obvious what he was trying to do. Kai knew Xterminate07 and his other two companions also had the video recording function on throughout the dungeon run. Most likely, he wanted to see the name of the poison resistance potion and other skills and items Kai had used in the dungeon.
Kai: How about another deal..
Kai tempted the guy.
X: I don’t have any more money.
Kai: Use the items you got today, sell them. Then you will have lots of money to give me.
X: And why would I do that? We already learned your method..
Kai: Guaranteed clear.
X: That’s not possible, you barely know about the final boss and the third section is not easy to clear without losing people.
Kai: If we fail, you don’t have to pay anything, but if we clear it..
X: You have a strategy?
Kai: You will see.
X: Fine, same amount.
Kai would have negotiated for more since it was about clearing the whole dungeon, but money was not what he wanted here — it was the three experienced players. It was already quite lucky that he was being paid for using these experts and not the other way around. His team was new, but it was the best newbies could do. Only experience will teach them how to be a better player. Still, after a few runs of the same dungeon, he could train them enough to clear the dungeon, but doing that with total random players was not easy. With Xterminate07 and his buddies, Kai could create a bit more demanding strategy and do this in a couple of tries at best.
Kai logged off after meeting with Xterminate07, Mimi from his side was gone. He too put his headgear in charging and went down. He was indeed quite hungry. As Mimi and his mom set up the table, Kai checked on his listings with his holo. It was better than what he expected.
All ten of his listings had over 20 biddings each, and more was being placed as he looked. The lowest offer on his listing was of 356 gold — it was a bundle of low-leveled items and equipment without any set. All others were well above 400 and even some going 500 plus. Kai could wait and see it rise more, but even better option was to sell it off and put up more of his items.
Kai finalized the deals — all bidders got five-minute notice, the bids started rising again, people not wanting to let it go from their hands. Kai had no idea who was buying it, from the numbered usernames it could be anyone. When a player did not use their real name and sold as guests, the system assigned them a system-generated name with alphabets and numbers.
After selling all 10 listings Kai earned 6324 gold coins, along with 600 from Xterminate07 he now had over 7400 plus gold. Which were equal to 1480 Exelon. Quite good. Kai had enough money from his streaming channel to be called above average from normal salaried people in terms of financial stability, but he wasn’t exactly wealthy either.
There was something he needed to use this money for today though. But that would come after he logged in the game.
Currently Kai checked out the listings and saw the items he had put a bid on, people had bid double and three, four times the bid compared to his already. There was no chance in hell he would buy a bow for 500 plus gold. He did want to buy one though.
