Official Career Storm-Chapter 1365
Shu Xue served the tea and water, then exited the office.
Wu Qiangwei asked, "Who do you think it is?"
She had asked this question before. Asking again now was because Li Song hadn't been truthful, causing her initial suspicions to waver.
Song Guanchao pondered for a few seconds, then shook his head and said, "Hard to say."
Like Wu Qiangwei, he initially thought it must be Zhang Yan's arrangement.
But if it were Zhang Yan, he couldn't understand why Li Song would tell such a blatant lie.
He had already offered him a way out; as long as he revealed the person behind the scheme, he would be off the hook.
But he didn't appreciate it.
Unless the benefits promised by Zhang Yan were enough to make him bear the cost of imprisonment.
Song Guanchao said, "Let's wait for Director Xu's news."
Li Song had already been arrested, and his phone and computer had been confiscated. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
No matter how careful he was, if he did it, there must be traces.
Finding out the person behind the scheme is just a matter of time; there's no need to waste energy blindly guessing.
Suddenly, Song Guanchao stood up and walked to the window, closing the blinds, plunging the office into darkness.
Wu Qiangwei was startled and asked, "What are you doing?"
She felt inexplicably anxious.
"Just checking."
Song Guanchao began inspecting the walls.
The opponent could set up surveillance and eavesdropping devices in his office, so Wu Qiangwei could hardly escape monitoring.
Wu Qiangwei quietly let out a sigh of relief, and thought to herself, what am I imagining, as her cheeks flushed slightly.
Her office was relatively large, but the setup was similar.
Bookshelves, desks, paintings on the walls, and a tea table near the window.
When Song Guanchao lifted a painting, he paused.
Behind the painting, there was a square slot with a pinhole camera inside.
There was indeed monitoring equipment!
Song Guanchao's heart sank; the situation in the Provincial City was more severe than he imagined.
This was the mayor's office, and it was monitored too.
Who on earth did this?
Is this the same person monitoring him?
Various questions flashed through his mind, Song Guanchao slowly lowered the painting and walked over to open the blinds.
Wu Qiangwei noticed his pause just now and asked, "Is there surveillance?"
"Yes."
Song Guanchao went over and reopened the painting.
Seeing the slot behind the painting and the surveillance equipment inside, a chill ran through Wu Qiangwei's heart.
She immediately picked up the phone to call Liang Jianfeng: "Director Liang, please come over."
After hanging up, Wu Qiangwei thought briefly and then called Secretary Zhou.
"Secretary Zhou, are you available now?"
"I've encountered an issue, could you come over."
Although Zhou Zheng hadn't known her for long, he knew she wouldn't make such a call unless it was urgent.
Song Guanchao was also busy; he immediately went out and told Shu Xue, "Go to the surveillance room and ask the security to export all the surveillance footage and send it over."
Shu Xue glanced inside, hearing Wu Qiangwei's voice: "Do as Director Song instructed."
"Okay." Shu Xue immediately went ahead.
Within a few minutes, Shu Xue called back.
"Director Song, which day's surveillance footage do you need?"
"What is the retention period for the surveillance?"
"30 days, with some areas having three months."
"Retrieve the footage from the lobby, elevators, and the sixth floor."
"What?" Shu Xue was shocked, but immediately said, "Okay, understood."
Though unsure why Song Guanchao wanted this, something must have happened.
About twenty minutes later, Liang Jianfeng arrived.
Seeing Song Guanchao there, he showed a hint of surprise.
After sitting down, Song Guanchao first told him about being monitored, then informed him of Wu Qiangwei's office being monitored too.
This situation was unprecedented for him, but he didn't show much shock.
He immediately entered investigative mode and asked, "Is the surveillance footage retrieved?"
"It's been arranged for preservation."
"Did you touch the surveillance equipment?"
"No."
"Does the mayor lock her office every day after work?"
Wu Qiangwei said, "Secretary Shu locks it."
Liang Jianfeng pondered for a few seconds and called Xu Yang: "Director Xu, has Li Song confessed?"
"No."
"Are there any related chat records on his phone and computer?"
"No, he deleted all chat records."
Mentioning this, Xu Yang gritted his teeth.
Li Song, that minor official, was tighter-lipped than he imagined.
Possibly knowing he'd be sentenced, he resisted fiercely, refusing to speak.
Currently, the case is at a standstill.
"Is he married?"
"No."
"Single?"
"Has a girlfriend."
"Bring his girlfriend back and question her thoroughly."
After hanging up, Liang Jianfeng stood up: "I'm going to the surveillance room."
Song Guanchao rubbed his chin, as if Liang Jianfeng had an idea.
Yet, he couldn't fathom what Liang Jianfeng's line of thinking was.
Shortly after Liang Jianfeng left, Zhou Zheng arrived.
Seeing Song Guanchao, his expression remained unchanged, as if he no longer cared about Song Guanchao previous offenses.
Song Guanchao didn't make things awkward, giving him due respect, and stood up to greet Secretary Zhou.
Zhou Zheng sat down and asked, "Mayor Wu, what can I do for you?"
Wu Qiangwei succinctly said, "Director Song's office has been monitored and eavesdropped."
Zhou Zheng's first reaction was also that Zhang Yan did it.
However, monitoring and eavesdropping were indeed excessive.
"Who knows about this issue so far?"
Noticing he didn't show concern for Song Guanchao but worried about the spread, Wu Qiangwei was somewhat dissatisfied.
"Only Director Liang for now."
Zhou Zheng nodded; fortunately, the news hadn't spread everywhere.
He thought about convincing Wu Qiangwei to drop the matter and resolve it quietly.
But he also knew the discord between Zhang Yan and Wu Qiangwei; getting her to settle quietly wasn't easy.
While pondering his words, Wu Qiangwei added, "My office has been monitored too."
"What?"
"Hmm?"
Zhou Zheng's face turned serious.
Monitoring Song Guanchao, though he felt it was excessive, he didn't worry much as Song Guanchao was just a director.
But Wu Qiangwei was different.
She was the mayor.
Song Guanchao stood up, moved to the wall, and removed the painting, revealing the slot behind.
Seeing the surveillance equipment in the slot, Zhou Zheng furrowed his brow, took out his phone, and called Zhang Yan directly.
Upon connection, Zhou Zheng coldly said, "Mayor Zhang, come to Mayor Wu's office. Right now."
As he put down the phone, Song Guanchao said, "Secretary Zhou, it might not be Mayor Zhang who did this."
Zhou Zheng's furrowed brow deepened, "When did I say Mayor Zhang did it?"
Though he first assumed Zhang Yan was behind it.
Song Guanchao's reminder made him realize it might not be Zhang Yan; only her suspicion was prominent.
His displeasure was because he felt Song Guanchao was impolite.
Such situations were not his place to comment, nor was it his place to instruct him.
He hadn't held previous incidents against him, given Lu Zhizhong's influence.
But it didn't mean he found Song Guanchao agreeable.
Song Guanchao noticed his tone's targeted intent, chuckled lightly, and chose not to argue.
