Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 530: Another Form Of Danger ()
Neveah passed a wary look down to Xenon’s hand and then over to Xenon, but Xenon’s gaze was fixed elsewhere, like he had absolutely no idea where his hand was rested.
But Neveah did not doubt even one bit that this was intentional, this was Xenon’s way of reminding her that he did not appreciate her actions from the day before.
Xenon was one who was always hell bent on having his way, Neveah knew this... Xenon had never cared to conceal this personality trait of his.
And Xenon knew well enough that their newly formed bond was extremely sensitive, being in the same room was one thing... being in contact was another thing entirely.
Even through the fabric of her breeches, Neveah could feel the warmth of Xenon’s palm and for some reason, Xenon was missing his ever present leather gloves which would at least have provided another layer of a barrier.
Intentional, or otherwise, this was not exactly how Neveah had envisioned this morning would go.
The meeting had only just begun too and Neveah already prayed for it to be over soon.
Neveah bit down on her lip, Xenon would only derive satisfaction if she let on how affected she was by his touch and so Neveah mentally lectured herself to focus.
To Neveah’s greatest relief, Xenon’s hand also remained in place and did not venture any further.
Neveah slowly released the breath she was holding when it did not seem like Xenon intended to stir anymore trouble beyond that... perhaps he only wished to be in contact with Neveah to soothe their bond.
Though the hand on her thigh was hard to ignore, Neveah convinced herself to focus on the matters at hand which were of grave importance.
"I am sure you all must have questions, and rightly so." King Jian began to address the dune dragons.
Neveah realized then that she had spoken too soon, Xenon’s hand moved slightly, inching a tad bit higher up her thigh.
Neveah sucked in a slow breath, keeping her expression as still as she could.
"What happened at the barrier..." King Jian trailed off, glancing over at Neveah briefly before he continued.
Neveah did not know if that glance was a knowing look which would mean this arrangement had been planned by both men, or if Xenon was acting alone.
"It is something we have not seen happen in centuries... perhaps never in our history. And many questioning eyes will rest on the White Dunes, to this regard... you will all have to be prepared." King Jian said.
Xenon’s index finger began a slow tapping motion, once, twice and three times, before going right back to just a single tap.
Neveah tried to move her leg away inconspicuously, but Xenon’s hand flattened out, keeping her leg right in place.
"What exactly happened with Veah? How is she able to wield magic?" Garron asked, still in confusion.
"Neveah has unknowingly come in contact with a magical weapon of ancient origins...it is extremely powerful and unpredictable and has made her it’s host." King Jian revealed.
Neveah observed there was a lot King Jian had left unsaid, as he had confided to Neveah, Demevirld’s existence was always kept as quiet as possible.
All the dune dragons present here could already make their own guesses as to what this magic weapon was, since they originally knew of Demevirld’s existence.
Neveah did not really have the luxury to care about that at the moment, not when she was battling for the life of her to keep a straight face.
Xenon had resumed his rhythmic tapping again and Neveah knew better than to attempt to escape his touch.
"We have to get it out then! Without delay!" Kaideon said immediately.
"I have sent word through Cassian. He has already begun looking into the possible options for an extraction, however for the time being and without the appropriate expertise, it is too risky to attempt it." King Jian explained.
"Does this mean there is nothing we can do about it?" Rodvan asked warily.
"To ensure Neveah’s safety, that is very much so. The best that can be done is to limit the use of this ability as much as is possible, the more it is used, the stronger it binds to Neveah." King Jian revealed.
"For how long has it been bound to Neveah already? It could not have happened under my watch." Kaideon asked, passing a look to Neveah.
"I...it has been a little more than a year, father." Neveah admitted, her voice slightly stuttered.
"Back in the fodder grooves then." Kaideon murmured to himself, but his words were audible enough to be heard.
Neveah winced visibly, she had not intended for Kaideon to find out in this manner and now that it had happened, Neveah wished she had told him of it sooner.
Xenon’s hand went still, allowing Neveah the moment she needed to speak properly.
"Forgive me, I should not have kept it from you." Neveah apologized in guilt.
"There will be no cause for alarm, I will ensure it is well contained till it can be extracted and no harm will come to Neveah." King Jian assured.
Xenon’s moment of consideration was gone and his hand moved again, inching higher up her thigh. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"Now, word of this has already spread beyond the white dunes. Orders have been sent to contain the spread of this information, but it would be naive to believe the tributary races will not catch word of it."
"A lightblood wielding magic will be a curious topic to everyone of them, and when this very same lightblood is my bonded... the tributary races will jump at this opportunity to target me through Neveah." King Jian said, his tone dark.
"You only need give the orders, My Liege and we will see to them at once." Coran spoke up.
Not one person present in the hall was pleased by the idea that Neveah would be in danger.
How could they realize that Neveah was in a completely different form of danger entirely, right at the moment, right before their eyes?
