On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 11: Take Good Care of Your Body, Chelsea, and You’ll Definitely Be Able to Have a Child
His one sentence struck my weak spot. I stared at Theodore Grant in disbelief, my lips moving, but I couldn’t utter a single word.
It felt as if I suddenly didn’t know Theodore Grant at all.
In my memory, the Theodore Grant from our university days was so noble and bright. He and Sebastian Forrest were known as the Twin Jewels of Kington University. In terms of looks, character, family background, and ability, they were both one in a million. Back then, almost no girl could resist falling for them...
But now—
Everything had changed. I even felt that my once-fervent and sincere crush on Theodore Grant had become nothing but a beautiful illusion.
When Theodore Grant saw that I didn’t object, he seemed to let out a quiet sigh of relief. He stepped forward and hugged me, murmuring softly, "There’s really nothing between me and Clara Langley. You have to believe me..."
Just as I was about to push him away, the phone in his pocket suddenly started vibrating.
When I saw the caller ID, a bitter smile touched my lips.
It was Clara Langley again.
"Answer it," I said, pulling myself out of his embrace.
’After being disappointed time and time again, I’d grown numb to it.’
’So this is how easily more than a decade of affection can be worn away.’
But Theodore Grant didn’t answer. Instead, he frowned and rejected the call.
’But would Clara Langley really give up that easily?’
’They say the favored are fearless.’
’That saying fit Clara Langley to a T.’
She called again and again, and Theodore rejected it again and again. Watching the scene unfold, I found it almost laughable.
When Clara Langley called for the umpteenth time, I snatched the phone, swiftly ended the call, and blocked her number.
Theodore Grant stared at me, stunned for a moment, before his lips curved into a smile. "Much quieter now."
’I was surprised Theodore wasn’t angry that I’d blocked Clara Langley.’
"Today was my fault. I shouldn’t have abandoned you at the hospital without a word. I promise it won’t happen again." Theodore Grant’s voice softened, clearly trying to placate me.
’In the past, I would have been ecstatic to see him lower himself to please me like this.’
’But now, all I felt was exhaustion.’
’My mother’s illness can’t take any more blows. All I want now is for the wedding with Theodore to go smoothly, just to make her happy.’
’As for everything else...’
’I can’t afford to worry about it right now.’
"Theodore, there won’t be a next time."
Seeing me finally relent, Theodore Grant smiled and nodded. "Yeah, I promise, there absolutely won’t be a next time!"
...
The wedding preparations proceeded in a tense but orderly fashion.
Perhaps to make it up to me, Theodore Grant spent the next few days at home with me, choosing invitation styles and picking out wedding candy.
During this time, it was as if Clara Langley had a complete change of heart; she didn’t call Theodore Grant again. Of course, that might just have been because her number was still blocked.
Her silence and lack of drama, however, was so unusual it made me feel a little uneasy.
’But then, she wouldn’t be Clara Langley if that was the end of it.’
Just three days before the wedding, she showed up at the Grant Family’s home, having arrived in Vincent Lombard’s car.
"I happened to run into Clara on my way over, so I thought she might as well come and help out..." Vincent Lombard said, his face breaking into a wide smile. "Clara, come, sit. What would you like to drink? I’ll have someone fetch it for you."
Sitting on the sofa, Clara Langley’s smile was just as radiant. "Mr. Lombard, please don’t be so formal with me. I’m just here to help, there’s no need to go to all that trouble."
’I watched them coolly from the side. ’Help?’’
’She was clearly here to make things difficult.’
I couldn’t help but turn to look at Theodore Grant, curious about his reaction. But he never once looked up from the iPad in his hands, focused on selecting items for the wedding menu as if Clara Langley didn’t even exist.
’I was a little surprised at his change. After all, he used to be a nervous wreck if Clara Langley so much as scraped her finger...’
"How about this one? I remember your mother likes this."
Just as I was lost in thought, Theodore Grant pushed the iPad in front of me.
"That one’s a bit spicy. My mother can’t eat that now..."
Clara Langley suddenly cut in, "Theodore, you still remember this was my favorite back in our school days."
Theodore Grant looked up, his lips pressed into a thin line, and said coldly, "I wasn’t asking you. Shut up."
Clara Langley pouted and retorted, "I’ll say what I want. You can’t stop me!"
Theodore Grant’s expression remained cold, and he ignored her.
But Clara Langley completely ignored his stony face and laughed breezily. "Hey, you can’t be serious. Are you still mad? I was just teasing you the other day! We used to mess around like this all the time in school, and I never saw you get this angry. Why are you getting so fussy just because you’re getting married? Are you even a man?"
"You’re the one who’s not a man!" Theodore Grant shot back, flustered with anger.
His words just made Clara Langley laugh. "Of course I’m not a man! HAHAHA!"
’This seemed to be their usual way of interacting—bickering and teasing. It made me feel like a complete outsider.’
"Chelsea, let’s go upstairs."
Just as my heart soured with bitterness, Theodore Grant took my hand and pulled me to my feet, not giving Clara Langley a single extra glance.
Slightly dazed, I let Theodore Grant lead me upstairs toward the bedroom. I couldn’t resist a glance back at Clara Langley and saw her standing rooted to the spot, her lips pressed into a thin line, her eyes practically shooting daggers at us.
’Seeing her so furious and thwarted, for the first time, I felt a rush of satisfaction.’
Back in the bedroom, Theodore Grant sat me down on the edge of the bed to continue picking out dishes. As I looked at the handsome, defined lines of his profile next to me, my resolve couldn’t help but waver again.
Noticing my prolonged silence, Theodore Grant looked up and gently ruffled my hair. "What are you thinking about? Are you tired? If you don’t want to pick, we can let my mom take care of it, okay?"
"Mm," I nodded. After all, his mother was more experienced in these matters.
As Theodore tossed the iPad aside, I finally found my resolve. "After the wedding is over, come with me to the hospital. I want to get a check-up."
’If the wedding goes smoothly, my status as the Young Madam of the Grant Family will be made public. Unlike now, where no one outside of the Grant relatives knows that I’m the family’s rightful Young Madam.’
’At that point, I wouldn’t mind adding to the Grant Family’s joy and making it a double celebration.’
"Alright." Theodore Grant nodded. "That’s a good idea. Modern medicine is so advanced. If you focus on getting healthy, Chelsea, you’ll definitely be able to conceive..."
’I knew he’d misunderstood, but he would find out I was already pregnant when the test results came back.’
’He was going to be a father!’
At that thought, I couldn’t stop the corners of my mouth from turning up. I smiled and nodded at him. "Mm-hm."
