On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 123: Was That When I Started to Like You...?
"What’s wrong?" Theodore Grant’s voice held a hint of amusement. "Did someone upset you?"
I sneered, "Theodore Grant, stop pretending. Did you kidnap my brother?"
Theodore Grant chuckled. "How can you call it kidnapping? The truth is, someone was trying to harm your brother, and I just happened to rescue him. If you don’t believe me, you can ask him yourself..."
"You—"
But before I could say anything else, my brother’s voice came through the receiver. "Chel-Chelsea... it’s me..."
I froze. "Brother?! Are you okay? Where are you now? Theodore Grant isn’t giving you a hard time, is he?"
"I’m fine..." My brother’s voice paused slightly. "It... It was Theodore Grant who saved me."
My face was a mask of disbelief. "Brother, you..."
But before I could finish, Theodore Grant’s voice was back on the line. "See? I was right, wasn’t I?"
I couldn’t help but grit my teeth. ’I knew it. Theodore must have forced him to say that.’
"What do you really want?"
"Nothing much. I just want you to come with me somewhere."
My lips tightened into a thin line. "Where?"
"The entrance of Sunstone Middle School. I’ll be waiting for you there."
’Sunstone Middle School?’
I couldn’t help but frown, completely baffled as to why Theodore Grant would want to meet me at the school entrance.
However, with my brother’s safety on the line, I couldn’t afford to take any chances.
"Fine."
Theodore Grant’s voice softened, laced with a hint of amusement. "See you in a bit, then."
Seeing me hang up the phone, my aunt quickly asked, "How did it go? Is your brother okay?"
I was afraid of worrying my aunt, so I forced myself to say, "Don’t worry, he’s fine. Theodore Grant picked him up. I’m going to bring him back in a little while..."
My aunt looked skeptical. "Are you sure he’s fine?"
"I’m sure."
My aunt pressed her lips together. She must have overheard my conversation with Theodore Grant. "Chelsea, you should have a good talk with Theodore later. You were husband and wife, after all; there’s nothing that can’t be resolved. Besides, he’s already admitted he was wrong. You could give him one last chance..."
"Aunt..." I cut her off directly. "I’ll handle it."
"Oh, you and that temper of yours..." my aunt muttered as she walked away. "These days, how can a divorced woman possibly live a good life on her own? A home just isn’t a home without a man."
...
After freshening up, I changed my clothes and headed out.
But just as I pushed my door open, the door to the apartment across the hall opened as well.
"Up so early?" Sebastian Forrest chuckled lightly. "Couldn’t wait to go to that place with me?"
I froze for a second, only then remembering that I had promised Sebastian Forrest last night that I’d go somewhere with him...
"Senior Forrest, I’m so sorry, but something urgent has come up. I don’t think I can go with you today..."
The smile on Sebastian Forrest’s face faded slightly. "What is it?"
I pursed my lips. ’I know if I tell him about this, he’ll definitely march right up to Theodore Grant and settle the score...’
And right now, I just wanted to resolve this quietly and avoid making things more complicated.
Seeing that I wasn’t saying anything, Sebastian Forrest didn’t press the issue. He just reached out and ruffled my hair. "It’s fine. We can go another day."
I immediately nodded. "Thank you, Senior Forrest. I’ll get going then."
"Want me to drive you?"
"No, it’s okay. I can just drive myself."
"Alright, drive safe."
"Mm."
Soon, the elevator doors opened.
But just as the elevator doors were slowly closing, I faintly heard the voices of my aunt and Sebastian Forrest. I tried to make out what they were saying, but the elevator was already descending, and their voices faded away.
...
Before long, I had driven to Sunstone Middle School.
Since it was the weekend, the main gate of the school was closed. A single black van was parked on the side of the road.
As if seeing my car approach, the van’s door opened, and Theodore Grant stepped out.
"Chelsea..."
"Where’s my brother?" I asked coldly.
"Don’t be so anxious. You’ll see your brother soon enough." Theodore Grant pointed at the school behind him. "Does this place look familiar?"
I instinctively looked up, and past memories swirled before my eyes like a spinning carousel.
Every brick and tile, every blade of grass and tree here was all too familiar to me. And the person who held most of my youthful memories was standing right in front of me...
But things were no longer the same.
I was lost in a daze for a moment. When I came to my senses, I saw Theodore Grant staring at me with a burning intensity, his eyes holding an unreadable mist.
"Let’s go. Shall we take a walk inside?" Theodore Grant instinctively reached for my hand.
I pulled my hand away immediately. "Theodore Grant, what are you really up to?"
"Just consider it fulfilling a wish of mine to revisit an old place. After we’ve had a look around, you’ll naturally see your brother," Theodore Grant said in a low voice.
I was still hesitant. "You’re not lying to me?"
Theodore Grant smiled and raised his hand. "Should I swear an oath, then?"
I pursed my lips. ’Even though I really don’t want to be with Theodore Grant, as long as I take a walk with him, my brother will be safe...’
’Besides, this is a school. I doubt Theodore Grant would try anything foolish here.’
At that thought, I nodded. "Let’s go."
...
Sunstone Middle School had changed quite a bit.
After all, many years had passed since graduation.
Both the sports field and the academic buildings had changed a lot, though you could still vaguely see traces of how they used to be.
That was when I first experienced the stirrings of love. All it took was a school uniform used as a shield, and I gave my young heart away completely.
But back then, Theodore Grant didn’t pay me any mind at all.
After all, there were too many girls who liked him or had a secret crush on him.
But even I never imagined that I would one day marry Theodore Grant.
And become his legitimate Mrs. Grant...
"The basketball court has changed a lot. I remember it used to be outdoors..."
As we reached the basketball court, Theodore Grant picked up a basketball from a nearby rack, bounced it a few times, then jumped and took a shot. With a SWISH, the ball traced a perfect arc through the air and fell through the net.
I had no interest in watching him show off his skills, so I turned to look the other way.
Back in the day, both Theodore Grant and Sebastian Forrest were on the basketball team. They played side-by-side in numerous games and won countless awards and honors.
And I was there at almost every single game, cheering them on...
Remembering that scene of youthful passion, I couldn’t help but let a small smile touch my lips.
"Chelsea, do you remember? There was this one basketball game against Kington University. You somehow got ahold of a gong and banged on it to cheer us on. You single-handedly overwhelmed our opponents with sheer momentum, and we ended up turning the tables to win..."
Maybe it’s because my youth was filled with a whole basketful of embarrassing moments, but hearing one mentioned so suddenly made my cheeks burn.
"Back then, I was thinking, ’That little girl sure is loud, and she has a beautiful smile...’" Theodore Grant turned to look at me. "I often wonder if that was the moment I started to fall for you..."
