On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 147: Am I That Unpresentable?
I didn’t know how long Theodore Grant had been standing there. All I knew was that when he saw Sebastian Forrest’s arm around me as I got out of the car, the joyful smile on his face instantly froze.
His gaze darted back and forth between me and Sebastian Forrest, his expression slowly turning to rage, like a husband who had just caught his wife cheating.
Theodore Grant closed the distance in just a few strides. The heavy scrape of his leather shoes against the stone-paved ground felt deeply oppressive.
"Why are you so late? I’ve been waiting for you for a long time."
Theodore Grant kept his eyes lowered, his gaze fixed on me. He didn’t spare a glance for Sebastian Forrest beside me, nor did he look at the hand Sebastian had wrapped around my waist.
He only questioned me.
This slightly interrogative tone was something Theodore Grant had used often in the past.
Except—he seemed to have forgotten that we were already divorced.
"Aren’t you overstepping your bounds, Mr. Grant?" I met his gaze coldly, without flinching.
Theodore Grant pressed his lips together, clearly realizing his tone was off. He quickly tried to explain, "Chelsea, I didn’t mean it like that. There’s something I need to tell you..."
I instinctively parted my lips to speak, but before I could, Sebastian Forrest, who was standing beside me, suddenly curled his lip into a smile. He patted my head with his large hand and said nonchalantly, "Sorry, my girlfriend doesn’t want to talk to you."
Theodore Grant stared daggers at Sebastian Forrest, the fury in his eyes looking like it could burn a hole right through him.
But for some reason, Theodore Grant was holding back. Even with Sebastian Forrest’s blatant provocation, he somehow managed to restrain his anger.
"Chelsea, I have something to tell you..." Theodore Grant looked at me, his gaze intense. "It’s very important."
I furrowed my brow slightly, thinking about the school uniform incident I had just discussed with Sebastian Forrest. Theodore Grant knew perfectly well that my feelings for him had stemmed from that event, yet he had never said a word about it...
"Good, because I have something to say to you, too."
A look of delight washed over Theodore Grant’s face. He looked utterly humbled, a far cry from the dashing, successful executive he once was.
When Sebastian Forrest heard that I was actually going to speak with Theodore Grant, his brow furrowed. I quickly reassured him, "It’s okay. Just wait for me over there for a minute. There are some things that need to be settled once and for all."
Sebastian Forrest pressed his lips together and turned to look at Theodore Grant.
Their eyes met. One gaze was as cold as ice, the other nonchalant.
But the hostility between them was palpable.
...
Only after watching Sebastian Forrest walk away did Theodore Grant retract his gaze.
"Chelsea, there’s something that’s been weighing on me for a long time. It’s about your..."
"Theodore Grant," I interrupted him, my voice flat. "Did you know all along that you weren’t the one who covered me with a school uniform back then?"
Theodore Grant’s expression seemed to go blank for a moment. It took him a long time to find his voice. "You... you know everything?"
I nodded. "It was Sebastian Forrest."
Theodore Grant forced a bitter smile but said nothing. In that instant, the light in his eyes seemed to dim considerably.
"Theodore Grant, our relationship was a complete mistake from the very beginning. And you never loved me, not for a moment. Since that’s the case, let’s stop torturing each other. Let’s just let each other go and try to leave behind some good memories."
"I do love you!" Theodore Grant’s eyes were slightly red. "Do you think I, Theodore Grant, would marry a woman I don’t love? Do you think Grandpa’s approval alone could force me to marry someone I don’t like?"
I pressed my lips together. His words sounded utterly ridiculous.
"But ever since we got married, you were always cold and distant. You continued to enjoy my wholehearted devotion, just like before. Theodore Grant, is that what you call love?"
Theodore Grant shook his head instinctively. "No, that’s not it..."
"Theodore Grant, if you want to see a person’s true character, don’t listen to what they say, watch what they do. You’re the one who taught me that, remember?"
Theodore Grant started to panic. "Chelsea, I did things too, I..."
His words trailed off. He was clearly racking his brain but couldn’t think of a single thing he had actually done for me.
I shook my head. ’In the ten-plus years I’d known Theodore Grant, my love had always been unrequited, a one-sided effort. He had grown so used to it all; what would he have ever done...’
I let out a soft sigh, feeling neither hatred nor resentment in my heart.
When it came to Theodore Grant, I no longer had the energy to spare. I didn’t want to get any more entangled with him.
’Whether he loved me or not, I no longer cared.’
Theodore Grant was silent for a long time before his slightly hoarse voice finally broke the silence. "I’m sorry..."
’Sorry again.’
I’d lost count of how many times I’d heard those words from his lips.
If those words might have once stirred my heart, now I felt nothing at all.
"It’s okay."
When those two words left my lips, I realized I truly didn’t care anymore.
’It really is—okay.’
’From this day forward, clear skies and separate paths.’
...
After I finished speaking, I turned and walked toward Sebastian Forrest, not looking back at Theodore Grant, who stood rooted to the spot with an anguished look on his face.
"All done?" Sebastian Forrest took my hand, instinctively glancing back at Theodore Grant. "What did he say to you?"
I couldn’t help but frown, remembering what he had said at the beginning. He seemed to want to tell me something, but I had cut him off.
’But—it didn’t matter.’
"Nothing much. He just apologized, said he was sorry."
Sebastian Forrest snorted. "He’s certainly quick to admit his mistakes now."
I reached out and hugged his arm. "Alright, let’s not worry about him. You’re still injured, you shouldn’t be out in the wind for too long. Let’s go inside."
Hearing this, Sebastian Forrest immediately broke into a wide grin, revealing two rows of neat, white teeth. "The wife is always right!"
"You’re talking nonsense again!"
"I’m not talking nonsense," Sebastian Forrest said with a smirk, a rare, sly look on his face.
I knew he always liked to get the last word in with his teasing, so I didn’t bother to argue. Once we were in the elevator, I just pressed the button for the floor.
"I’ll get out of the elevator first in a bit. You hide, don’t let anyone see you!" Feeling a little sheepish, I pulled Sebastian Forrest into the corner by the control panel. It was a blind spot where others couldn’t see.
"Am I that unpresentable?" Sebastian Forrest asked, looking utterly exasperated.
"Stop fooling around. Now isn’t the time to go public with our relationship."
"See? You’re trying to love me and leave me again." His tone was lazy, his gaze held a faint, teasing smile, and it made me want to hit him!
But Sebastian Forrest didn’t say anything more. I just felt the soft puff of his breath on the top of my head as he laughed.
’I had no idea what he found so funny.’
DING!
Just then, the elevator doors slid open. As I was about to step out, I was overwhelmed by the sea of flowers before me...
