On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 82: Staging a Breakup
"Yeah, the day after tomorrow, Saturday morning. Why? Is the Miller Family interested in this too?" Sebastian Forrest raised an eyebrow.
The Miller Family has been a medical dynasty for a century; they had absolutely no connection to military-industrial research.
"Is there such a thing as too much money? Your project is a real cash cow. So, what do you say? Let a brother get a taste?"
"Fine. Go prepare a bid proposal and submit it to me. If it makes the cut, you’re in."
The Miller Family might be a medical dynasty, with most of their children becoming doctors, but a few had ventured into the business world. It was only natural they’d want a piece of the pie from such a profitable venture.
Jude Miller grinned from ear to ear. "That’s what I was waiting to hear! I’ll have Claire draw up a proposal for you."
Sebastian Forrest pressed his lips together. "Get someone else."
I couldn’t help but glance over, wondering why he wanted someone else.
’Could it be that he has some bad blood with this ’Claire’ person?’
Jude Miller shot me a mischievous glance before turning back to Sebastian Forrest. "Okay, okay, okay. I’ll have my second brother handle it."
Sebastian Forrest finally looked away. Noticing I was still looking at my phone, he asked, "Finished eating? I’ll take you home."
I quickly nodded.
"Mind dropping me off, too?"
"It’s not on the way."
"..."
...
In the end, Jude Miller managed to hitch a ride anyway. But it wasn’t long before I heard soft snores coming from the back seat. When I glanced back, I saw he had fallen asleep, leaning against the headrest.
There were dark circles under his eyes. Clearly, he was travel-worn and hadn’t rested well.
Just as I was lost in thought, a large hand waved in front of my face.
I finally snapped out of it and looked at Sebastian Forrest. "Hm?"
"Are you free the day after tomorrow? My third uncle and his family will be there too..."
I froze for a moment before I realized what he was implying—he needed me to continue playing the part of his "girlfriend."
"I’m free..." I nodded quickly, though the thought of having to keep up the act at future events was daunting...
I didn’t really mind, but I was fast approaching the three-month mark. I could probably hide the pregnancy with loose clothing for a little while, but once I was three or four months along—or bigger—it would be impossible to conceal.
’I can’t just stage a whole ’unwed pregnancy’ drama then, can I?’
’The whole charade would fall apart!’
"What is it?" Sebastian Forrest seemed to notice my hesitation. He chuckled softly and asked, "Something on your mind?"
"Well..." I pursed my lips. "This can’t go on forever. I was thinking... maybe we should stage a ’breakup’ or something..."
’The whole point is to get him out of these arranged marriage talks. Being in a relationship and having just broken up would have pretty much the same effect.’
’No matter how desperate Madam Forrest is for a grandchild, she wouldn’t push him that far.’
’If he ’broke up’ with me, he’d at least get some breathing room.’
"Stage a breakup scene?" Sebastian Forrest’s eyes stayed on the road, his voice tinged with a lazy drawl. A faint, unreadable smile touched his lips. "Thinking of bowing out after a job well done, are we?"
’I remembered how dedicated Sebastian Forrest was when he helped me with my divorce, coming whenever I called. Now it was my turn to help him, and here I was, dragging my feet.’
I felt guilty for being so difficult, so I quickly voiced my real concern. "I am pregnant, after all. It’s manageable for now, but I won’t be able to hide it once I’m further along..."
Sebastian Forrest’s gaze brushed over my slightly swelling abdomen, a fleeting emotion in his eyes. "If you can’t hide it, then don’t."
"Huh?" I didn’t understand what he meant.
Sebastian Forrest’s lips quirked. "Don’t worry. This is the last time. I’ll handle everything else."
His words finally put my mind at ease.
...
「The weekend arrived in no time.」
Chloe Miller had originally asked me to go shopping, but the moment she heard I had plans for the afternoon, her gossipy side took over. "With who?"
Afraid she’d get the wrong idea, I quickly explained the whole situation from beginning to end.
"A breakup?" Chloe Miller frowned. "Is Master Forrest really getting cold feet?"
"That’s not the right idiom," I couldn’t help but correct her. "This is called cutting his losses."
Sebastian Forrest had shown interest in me before, but back then, he didn’t know I was pregnant with Theodore Grant’s child.
And ever since I laid my cards on the table, he hadn’t crossed any lines. He had obviously given up.
But Chloe Miller still seemed hopeful. "Chelsea, do you really not like Master Forrest one bit?"
I froze. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like him, but it wasn’t the romantic kind of like a woman has for a man. It was just simple admiration.
After all, a man like Sebastian Forrest was a feast for the eyes.
"Not that kind of like."
"So you do feel something for him?" Chloe pressed.
I pursed my lips. This time, I didn’t deny it. I nodded. "I suppose so."
Chloe Miller’s eyes lit up. "Feelings can grow! I think Master Forrest is a rare find—he’s handsome, rich, and not a player. You and he are a match made in heaven!"
I shook my head and gave a wry laugh. "I’m not as great as you make me out to be."
’I’ve already been through one failed marriage. I’m a mess of scars now; how could I possibly dare to hope for anything more?’
’Sebastian Forrest really is a rare catch.’
’But it’s precisely because he’s so exceptional—so exceptional that he deserves the most beautiful woman in the world. What have I done to deserve being called a match made in heaven with him?’
"Chelsea, don’t sell yourself short. The failed marriage with Theodore Grant wasn’t your fault... Besides, who hasn’t met a few scumbags in their life?"
"Alright, let’s drop it." I didn’t want to discuss it with Chloe Miller any further.
’Since I’ve already made my decision, I shouldn’t waver. That would only end up hurting us both.’
Chloe Miller sighed. She knew how stubborn I was; once my mind was made up, wild horses couldn’t change it. So she dropped the subject.
"Oh, right, I have something to show you."
Seeing Chloe Miller looking so dejected, I eagerly pulled out the file Sebastian Forrest had given me, presenting it to her like a hidden treasure. Then I said mysteriously, "We were wrong before. The baby in Clara Langley’s belly isn’t from her and her ex-husband..."
"Whose is it?" Chloe Miller asked impatiently as she opened the file.
"Guess."
"It can’t be Vincent Lombard’s, can it?" Chloe blurted out.
"..." I was stunned. I couldn’t believe she’d guessed it right.
When I said nothing, Chloe froze for a second. Then her eyes went wide as she stared at me. "Holy shit, no way! It’s really Vincent Lombard’s?"
I nodded. "Yeah."
"This is wild!" Chloe exclaimed. "Clara Langley sure knows how to play games!"
Pregnant with Vincent Lombard’s child, yet still planning to marry Theodore Grant... This was the kind of drama you probably couldn’t even air on TV, and yet it was actually happening!
After her initial shock wore off, Chloe saw a small USB drive in the manila folder and asked, "What’s this?"
"Audio recordings of Clara Langley and Vincent Lombard’s affair."
"Holy shit! How do you even have this? You didn’t get to watch it live, did you?"
My face grew hot, and I quickly changed the subject. "Senior Forrest recorded it."
"Well, I have to hear this."
I was exasperated. "Aren’t you grossed out by the idea?"
"I’ll just treat it like listening to a porno."
"..."
’So savage!’
