Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Domineeringly Protecting His Wife

"I should be asking you that."

Before I could speak, Sebastian Forrest glanced at Fiona Forrest, his voice cool as he asked coldly, "What are you doing here? I recall only sending an invitation to my third uncle."

This bidding conference required rigorous capital verification.

The invitation was just one part of it; proof of funds and other relevant qualifications also had to be accurate and complete. Not just anyone could attend.

Fiona Forrest, knowing she was in the wrong, pouted. She shot me a nasty glare before trying to shift the blame. "Claire Miller doesn’t have an invitation either! Sebastian, hurry up and kick her out!"

"Who says I don’t have an invitation?"

Just then, a clear, elegant voice rang out. I instinctively turned toward the sound and saw a woman in a simple yet sharp white suit approaching with a graceful stride.

Fiona Forrest snorted, her face full of disdain. "Claire Miller, stop pretending. That invitation is obviously Jude’s. You must have snuck in."

At her words, Jude Miller, who was standing nearby, gave a dry laugh and cleared his throat. "Um, the invitation really is for Claire. I’m the one who snuck in..."

But Fiona Forrest clearly didn’t believe him. She pouted and said unhappily, "Claire Miller is your sister. Of course you’d take her side!"

The implication was clear: she was accusing Jude Miller of lying.

"Alright, stop making a scene." Sebastian Forrest seemed to have finally lost his patience. His brow furrowed as he looked at Fiona Forrest. "Go behave yourself."

He already had sharp, chiseled features, and when his expression turned cold like this, he looked even more aloof and forbidding, enough to make one’s heart skip a beat.

Humiliated in public, Fiona Forrest’s eyes immediately reddened with indignation. However, she didn’t dare defy Sebastian Forrest, so she shot Claire Miller a resentful glare before turning and running off.

A faint smile touched Claire Miller’s lips, and her gaze toward Sebastian Forrest grew even more fervent.

"Sebastian..."

But before she could speak, Sebastian Forrest turned to me. "Let’s go. I’ll take you to the lounge."

I felt a little awkward. It was obvious this Miss Miller liked Sebastian Forrest, because I could clearly feel the scrutinizing hostility in her gaze as it landed on me.

Afraid of causing trouble, I quickly pulled Chloe aside. "Don’t go to any trouble. You should get back to what you were doing. I’ll be fine with Chloe."

But Sebastian Forrest just smiled and took my hand. "I can’t do that. I need to get you settled first."

I instinctively tried to pull my hand back, but before I could, Claire Miller looked at me with a smile and asked, "Sebastian, and this is...?"

"My girlfriend, Chelsea Joyce."

The smile on Claire Miller’s face froze for a moment, but she quickly recovered, extending her hand toward me. "Hello, Miss Joyce. I’m Claire Miller, general manager of the Miller Group."

"A pleasure, Miss Miller." I quickly returned the handshake.

"Miss Joyce, you look somewhat familiar," Claire Miller said, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly, though her brow was furrowed as if she were trying hard to recall something. "Has Sebastian brought you out with him before?"

’Of course, I understood the subtext of her words. It’s just that her methods were clearly far more sophisticated than those of Fiona Forrest or Zoe Lockwood...’

’Too bad—’

’She shouldn’t have tried it in front of Sebastian Forrest.’

"Why are you so chatty today?" Sebastian Forrest cut Claire Miller off with a frown, then looked impatiently at Jude Miller. "Didn’t I tell you to have someone else come?"

Jude Miller looked helpless. "My brother wasn’t free..."

Sebastian Forrest didn’t buy that nonsense for a second and pointed a finger at him.

Jude Miller immediately held up his hands in a gesture of surrender.

Sebastian Forrest ignored him and took my hand again. "Let’s go."

Once we were inside the lounge, I quickly pulled my hand from Sebastian Forrest’s grasp. My palm was already starting to sweat.

’It seems this acting gig really isn’t for just anyone.’

"I had someone prepare some food in advance. You should have a little something to tide you over," Sebastian Forrest said, gesturing to the exquisite pastries on the coffee table.

I nodded quickly. "Senior Forrest, you should go take care of your business..."

Sebastian Forrest smiled. "Okay, I get it. Go on and eat. I’ll come back to get you in a bit."

"Mm."

After Sebastian Forrest left, Chloe Miller popped a pastry into her mouth and gave me a teasing look. "Master Forrest was so domineeringly protective of you just now!"

I stuffed the pastry in my hand into her mouth. "Can’t you ever stop talking, even when you’re eating?"

"Mmph..." Chloe Miller patted her chest. Once she finally managed to swallow, she said, "But I’m not wrong! Didn’t you see that Claire what’s-her-name? She was green with envy..."

Unlike Chloe, who was just enjoying the drama and didn’t mind stirring up trouble, I was actually starting to worry.

’I have to admit, this gig as Sebastian Forrest’s girlfriend makes it way too easy to make enemies!’

’I’d never even met that Miss Miller before, and now I’ve already made an enemy of her...’

"Oh, right..." Chloe Miller seemed to have a sudden thought. She swallowed the food in her mouth and looked at me. "Did you notice? That Miss Miller from earlier looks a bit like you. When I first saw her, for a split second, I thought it was you!"

"She does not!" I was exasperated. "We don’t look anything alike, okay?"

Chloe Miller rubbed her chin, pondering for a moment. "There’s a little resemblance around the eyes."

"No, there isn’t."

"Alright, if you say so. Mmm, this one is delicious, you should try it..."

Just as Chloe and I were happily eating, there was a sudden knock on the door.

Chloe and I exchanged a look, wondering if Sebastian Forrest had returned, when the door was pushed open and a well-preserved woman in her thirties or forties walked in.

"Chelsea! I was wondering where I could find you. So you were hiding in the lounge!"

It was none other than Sebastian Forrest’s third aunt!

I immediately switched into character. "Hello, Third Aunt."

"It’s only been a few days, and you’ve gotten even prettier, Chelsea!" Third Aunt said warmly, walking over and taking my hand. "Ever since you left last time, the Old Madam has been talking about you nonstop."

"I’ve been thinking of Grandma, too."

But then Third Aunt suddenly lowered her head. Still holding my hand, she looked at my wrist with a puzzled expression. "Chelsea, where’s the bracelet the Old Madam gave you? Why aren’t you wearing it?"

"It’s too valuable. I was afraid I might damage it, so I put it away for safekeeping."

That much, at least, wasn’t a lie.

After leaving the Forrest estate last time, I had tried to return the bracelet to Sebastian Forrest, but he insisted it was a gift to me from the Old Madam and refused to take it back.

With no other choice, I could only hold onto it for the time being, figuring I’d find a suitable opportunity to return it to him later.

"You must take very good care of that bracelet..." Third Aunt’s smile was radiant. "You have no idea. Sebastian begged the Old Madam for a long time before she finally relented and agreed to let him give it to you..."

I froze. "S... Sebastian... He begged the Old Madam?"

"That’s right!" Third Aunt said, her face full of emotion. "That thing is our Forrest Family’s heirloom, passed down only to the eldest son of each generation. It’s incredibly important, so you absolutely must keep it safe!"

I was completely stunned. ’What was Third Aunt trying to tell me?’
