Chapter 112: Chapter 112: A Terrible Side

"Why did you call him? What are you worried about?" Jasper Lockwood asked again.

Chloe Sterling looked at him, silent for a long moment. "Do you think I’m worried about Silas Coldwell? Jasper Lockwood."

"I didn’t say you were worried about him. I’m just asking if you truly don’t care about him at all."

"You’ve already decided on your own answer, so why bother asking me!"

Jasper Lockwood asking such a question showed he was already doubting her. Chloe Sterling didn’t want to explain any further and turned to leave!

But she didn’t leave the cocktail party. Although she was angry, she wouldn’t just walk out. She had promised Jasper Lockwood she would accompany him to the party, and she always kept her word.

Chloe Sterling walked over to where Jasper Lockwood had been sitting and sat down, taking a glass of wine from a waiter just as he had. Jasper Lockwood didn’t go over to her. He was talking with two executives, glancing her way from time to time.

Silas Coldwell didn’t approach Chloe Sterling. He could tell she was upset, and now was not the time to provoke her. ’What if she uses that Enchanting Fragrance on me again? This isn’t the right place for that.’

He then glanced at Phoebe Sinclair and Chloe Kensington, noting their furtive movements. A hint of mockery flashed in his eyes. ’Those two idiots actually think they can plot against Jasper Lockwood.’

Silas Coldwell crooked a finger at his subordinate. Zane Stratton immediately came over. "Boss."

Silas Coldwell whispered a few words in his ear. Zane Stratton looked stunned, then said, "Yes, I understand."

Chloe Kensington couldn’t find an opportunity to get near Jasper Lockwood, let alone his drink. Just as she was at her wit’s end, a man suddenly bumped into her, knocking the small white bottle from her hand. Startled, she immediately moved to pick it up, but the man was faster, snatching it from the floor.

"You... Give that back!" Chloe Kensington whispered, afraid of attracting attention.

Zane Stratton gave her a cold glance and said in a low voice, "I know what you’re trying to do, but you probably won’t succeed."

Chloe Kensington’s heart tightened. "What... What are you talking about? I don’t understand."

"If you don’t understand, then forget it." Zane Stratton walked away with the bottle.

Chloe Kensington wanted to call out to him, but she looked around and didn’t dare.

Phoebe Sinclair went to the side to chat with a couple of acquaintances and had a few drinks. Then she returned and asked in a low voice, "How’s it going?"

"I..." Chloe Kensington didn’t dare to tell the truth. After a moment’s thought, she said, "Just a little longer. I haven’t found an opportunity yet."

Phoebe Sinclair frowned. "If you keep dragging your feet, Jasper Lockwood will be leaving."

"Phoebe, Chloe Sterling is here too, after all. If President Lockwood feels something is wrong, do you think he’ll go straight to her?"

Phoebe Sinclair had just been thinking about that very problem. "I’ll have someone lure Chloe Sterling away in a bit."

"Will that work?"

"We have to try whether it works or not. You need to hurry up!"

"Okay."

To avoid suspicion, Phoebe Sinclair went off to mingle with other guests again.

Chloe Kensington steeled herself to go find the man from before, only to see him appear near Jasper Lockwood. She was stunned. ’Is he going to help me?’

She looked closely at the man’s face and suddenly realized he was one of Silas Coldwell’s men.

It all clicked into place.

Chloe Kensington’s lips curled into a smirk. ’Tonight really is my lucky day. This way, even if Jasper Lockwood finds out, it won’t have anything to do with me.’

Still feeling vexed, Chloe Sterling kept her gaze fixed out the window, not noticing the situation unfolding around Jasper Lockwood.

Although Jasper Lockwood was talking with a few people, he was clearly distracted and overlooked what was happening nearby.

After a moment, he suddenly put down his wine glass and started walking toward Chloe Sterling. But after just a few steps, he felt something was wrong. His head grew heavy, and a strange heat washed over him.

Realizing what was happening, Jasper Lockwood’s already sour expression darkened further. He quickly changed direction and headed for the exit of the ballroom.

Chloe Kensington told Phoebe Sinclair that the deed was done. Phoebe had been watching Jasper Lockwood the whole time and had already sent others to strike up a conversation with Chloe Sterling, hoping to lure her away.

Seeing that Jasper Lockwood wasn’t heading for Chloe Sterling but toward the ballroom’s east exit, which led to the lounge area, she felt a surge of delight and immediately followed him.

Silas Coldwell saw everything. A moment ago, he had been feeling smug, but seeing Phoebe Sinclair follow Jasper Lockwood made him inexplicably irritated.

He hated Jasper Lockwood for stealing his person, but Jasper belonged to Lynn Chester now. It seemed like his actions were helping another woman steal what belonged to Lynn Chester.

’Wouldn’t that be the same as bullying her?’

Silas Coldwell frowned and called Zane Stratton over again, ordering, "Get rid of that woman. Don’t let her get near Jasper Lockwood!"

"Huh?" Zane Stratton looked completely baffled. "Boss, what do you mean now?"

Silas Coldwell said reluctantly, "Jasper Lockwood belongs to Lynn Chester now. I won’t allow anyone to steal her things!"

Zane Stratton: "...I understand, sir."

Silas Coldwell: "Then what are you waiting for? Go!"

"Yes."

Zane Stratton immediately rushed out. Just as he rounded a corner in the hallway, he saw a grim-faced Jasper Lockwood with one hand wrapped around Phoebe Sinclair’s neck.

Phoebe Sinclair’s feet were off the ground, her face, already turning purple from lack of air, stared at Jasper Lockwood in terror. She could clearly feel his rage; it seemed like he was really going to strangle her to death.

Phoebe Sinclair was too weak to struggle. Just as she was about to pass out, Jasper Lockwood suddenly released her, letting her drop to the floor. He then strode into a nearby lounge.

Phoebe Sinclair collapsed on the floor, gasping for air as tears streamed uncontrollably down her face. She had never seen such a terrifying side of Jasper Lockwood. Her body trembled, and she didn’t dare provoke him any further.

Seeing this, Zane Stratton didn’t go any closer. He turned and returned to the ballroom to report what he had just witnessed to his boss.

Hearing the report, Silas Coldwell was a little surprised. He raised an eyebrow and said, "As expected of Jasper Lockwood. It seems I’ve underestimated him."

Chloe Sterling ignored the man who had suddenly come over to flatter her, simply staring quietly out the window. Seeing her so cold and indifferent, the man tactfully took his leave.

After a while, Chloe Sterling suddenly turned her head to scan the ballroom, but she couldn’t see Jasper Lockwood anywhere.

’It’s one thing for him not to come find me, but now he’s completely disappeared!’

Chloe Sterling grew even more annoyed. She picked up the wine in front of her and downed it in one go, then took out her phone and dialed Jasper Lockwood.

The call connected after a long moment, but there was no sound from the other end.

Thinking he didn’t want to talk, Chloe Sterling spoke first. "Jasper Lockwood, I’m leaving now."

After a pause of several seconds, a man’s low, hoarse voice finally came through the phone. "Okay, you can go home."

After hanging up, Chloe Sterling got up and started to walk out. But just as she left the ballroom, she suddenly stopped. Thinking back, Jasper Lockwood’s voice had sounded... off.

Just then, Phoebe Sinclair walked past, clutching her neck.

Seeing her disheveled state, Chloe Sterling asked, "What happened to you?"

"What’s it to you! Who do you think you are? What right do you have to talk to me!" Phoebe Sinclair snapped, venting all her frustration on her.

Chloe Sterling noticed the bruises on her neck, and a flash of surprise crossed her eyes.

Seeing her expression, Phoebe Sinclair’s face grew even uglier. She shot Chloe Sterling a hateful glare and quickly walked away.

After a moment of thought, Chloe Sterling dialed Jasper Lockwood’s number again. This time, no one answered.
