On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 133: Everyone Was Stunned
「Half an hour later.」
Chloe Sterling entered the Lockwood Group, documents in hand.
Seeing her arrive so suddenly, Henry Chamberlain said, "Mrs. Lockwood, are you here for President Lockwood? He’s in the conference room. I’ll go get him."
"There’s no need." Chloe Sterling handed him the file. "These are the documents President Lockwood wanted. Please take them to him."
Henry Chamberlain paused, surprised, before quickly taking the file. "Of course. Why don’t you wait in the president’s office, Mrs. Lockwood? He should be finished very soon."
"Okay." Chloe Sterling headed for the president’s office.
A moment later, the office door suddenly swung open, and Jasper Lockwood walked in. "Why did you bring the file?"
"I was heading out anyway, so I thought I’d drop it off."
Jasper Lockwood walked over to her, his sharp eyes fixed on her delicate face. His tone was serious. "It’s rush hour. You made it here in half an hour. Just how fast were you driving?"
Chloe Sterling was silent for a moment. "It was fine... not too much traffic."
’I really didn’t drive that fast during the traffic jam,’ she thought. ’As for before that... let’s just say the other cars on the road were probably shocked.’
Jasper Lockwood obviously didn’t believe her. "I’ve told you not to drive so fast. It’s dangerous."
After a pause, Chloe Sterling finally said, "I know."
"Don’t leave yet. Wait here for me. I’ll be right back."
Chloe Sterling gave a slight nod. "Okay." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Jasper Lockwood left the office.
Chloe Sterling walked over to the sofa and sat down. She pulled out her phone to check the time. ’I really did get here a little too quickly.’
About twenty minutes later, Jasper Lockwood returned to the office.
Chloe Sterling looked up at him. "Are you done?"
"I am." Jasper Lockwood came over and sat down beside her. "What time are you meeting everyone at the bar?"
"Nine. I have to stop by Jean’s place first," Chloe said.
Jasper Lockwood asked, "So you only came to drop off the file?"
Chloe Sterling hesitated. "You’re free now? I thought you said you’d be working late."
"I have a business dinner. I was going to ask if you wanted to join me."
Chloe Sterling pressed her lips together. "Maybe not. They’re all your business contacts, and I don’t know any of them. Besides, I’ve already made plans with Jean and my colleagues from the lab."
"All right." Jasper Lockwood reminded her again, "Drive slowly. No more speeding."
He was on about her driving again. Chloe Sterling blurted out, "Well, it’s only because you were in such a hurry for the file!"
"I haven’t noticed you driving any slower on a normal day when I’m not waiting for a file."
Chloe Sterling fell silent.
Jasper Lockwood added, "Don’t drive to the bar. I’ll have the driver take you. I’ll pick you up when you’re finished."
Before Chloe could say anything, there was a sudden knock on the door, and Henry Chamberlain’s voice followed. "President Lockwood, the driver is here."
Jasper Lockwood said, "Let’s go."
"The driver?" Chloe Sterling looked surprised. "You already arranged for one?"
"Yes."
"When?"
"Right after you arrived."
The two of them stood up and walked out of the office.
Jasper Lockwood walked Chloe Sterling to the elevator. "The driver is waiting for you downstairs," he said. "Remember to call me a little before you’re ready to leave."
Chloe Sterling nodded. "Okay, I will."
The elevator doors opened, and Chloe stepped inside. As she did, she noticed the figure of a woman in the distance.
It was the same woman who had been gazing at Jasper with such affection, the one who was laughing and chatting by his side earlier. She was standing near the conference room door, looking toward the elevators—or more precisely, looking at her and Jasper.
The elevator doors slid shut, and the sight of Jasper and the woman vanished.
Chloe pressed her lips together. A tightness bloomed in her chest, making it hard to breathe.
Jasper had sensed someone behind him. Just before the elevator doors closed, he had noticed Chloe’s gaze shift to a point over his shoulder.
He turned. A few other people were coming out of the conference room, walking over with the woman.
The woman smiled faintly. "President Lockwood, shall we go?"
Jasper Lockwood replied impassively, "Yes."
When Jean Kensington heard that Chloe was going to a bar later, she immediately declared, "I’m coming too!"
"What about your baby? Don’t you need to stay home and watch him?" Chloe asked.
"He’s not here. My uncle picked him up again."
"Looks like your uncle really likes the baby. You were worried for nothing."
Jean Kensington shrugged. "I didn’t expect it either. I thought he’d be even angrier seeing the baby, but he was completely won over. Then again, that’s normal. Who can resist my charming son?"
When she first found out she was pregnant, everyone, including her doting uncle, told her to get an abortion. She’d even considered going to the clinic, but in the end, she gave birth to her baby.
Thinking back, she was so glad she did. She had almost lost her smart, handsome son.
After she returned to the country, she had assumed her uncle wouldn’t like the baby. But she never expected that after their very first meeting, her uncle would be completely smitten. Now, he dotes on the child and is always whisking him away from her side!
Chloe smiled. "Well then, let’s go together."
The two of them headed to the bar together.
「Meanwhile.」
「The Sinclair Residence.」
Tristan Sinclair was on the phone with Dean Lynch, telling him to come over and handle an emergency.
But Dean Lynch replied, "President Sinclair, tonight isn’t a good time for me. Could you possibly send someone else?"
Tristan Sinclair retorted, "No! It has to be you! I don’t care if you’re on a date, you get over here now!"
Dean Lynch explained, "It’s not a date. I’m... I’m babysitting."
"Babysitting!" Tristan Sinclair was taken aback. "Since when do you have a kid?"
’Dean Lynch is already thirty, but he’s not married. Where would he get a kid from?’
"It’s not my kid. President Sinclair, I’m truly sorry, but I really can’t make it tonight."
Tristan Sinclair wasn’t always a reasonable man. His tone was cold and unyielding. "Be here in thirty minutes, or you’ll face the consequences."
With that, he hung up.
Half an hour later, Dean Lynch arrived at the Sinclair Residence with the baby.
Tristan Sinclair was lounging on the sofa like an emperor. When he saw the familiar little face, he looked surprised. "Why do you have this kid with you?"
’Isn’t this the child of Chloe Sterling’s friend?’
Dean Lynch, holding the baby, hesitated for a moment before replying, "He’s... Jean’s son."
’So he’s Jean Kensington’s son.’
Chloe Sterling did know Jean Kensington and had looked after this child before, but Tristan Sinclair had never made the connection.
Dean Lynch set the baby down and cleared his throat. "President Sinclair, could I trouble you to watch the child for me? The server room is a secure area, so it’s not appropriate for him to go inside."
"What did you just say?" Tristan Sinclair’s eyes narrowed. "You want *me* to babysit for *you*? Who’s the boss here?"
Dean Lynch was at a loss. "Or... perhaps you could have one of the maids watch him. I’ll be back as soon as I’ve fixed the problem."
Tristan Sinclair didn’t say anything, which was as good as an agreement.
"Thank you, President Sinclair," Dean Lynch said again. Then he crouched down and said to the little boy, "Baby, you stay here for a little while, okay? I’ll be back very soon."
The baby nodded obediently. "Okay."
Dean Lynch turned and left.
Watching the handsome and adorable little boy, Tristan Sinclair found the corners of his lips turning up unconsciously. It wasn’t that he disliked the kid. It was just that, for some reason, learning he was Jean Kensington’s son made him feel inexplicably uneasy.
He remembered the last time at the restaurant, when the little rascal wouldn’t let him get close, giving him a "strangers keep out" look. That made him even more annoyed.
The baby stood his ground, his big, round eyes staring right back at Tristan without a hint of fear.
Tristan Sinclair suddenly spoke. "Come here."
The baby just looked at him, not moving an inch.
Seeing this, Tristan Sinclair suddenly stood up. He crossed the room in a few long strides, bent down, and swept the baby into his arms. A smirk played on his lips as he pinched the boy’s chubby cheek. "Stubborn little thing, aren’t you? But you still ended up in my hands."
The baby just stared.
