On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 50: When Immortals Fight
"I understand. I’m hanging up now." Chloe Sterling ended the call. Just as she was about to walk toward Jasper Lockwood, an arm suddenly grabbed hers. She turned around, surprised. "What are you doing here?"
Damian Rivers huffed, "You think you can just shake me off every time!"
Chloe Sterling’s gaze fell to the hand gripping her arm. She frowned. "Let go!"
Damian Rivers’ expression turned serious. "I’m warning you, don’t go over there!" He glanced in Silas Coldwell’s direction and continued in a hushed voice, "Look! Do you know who that is? Silas Coldwell, the man in charge of the Nocturne Group! He and Jasper Lockwood have bad blood. If you go to Jasper’s side now and let him see you’re Jasper’s woman, do you have any idea how dangerous that is?"
"It’s none of your business!" Chloe Sterling forcefully yanked her hand away.
Damian Rivers was speechless with frustration! But he still blocked her path helplessly, saying through gritted teeth, "Do you have any idea what the Nocturne Group is? If you don’t, I’ll give you a rundown. You can decide whether to go over after you understand!"
Chloe Sterling, with the last of her patience, said, "I know about the Nocturne Group, and I know Silas Coldwell. I know very well."
Damian Rivers was taken aback. "Then why are you still going over there? What good can you do?"
"If you keep blocking me, don’t blame me for what happens next," Chloe Sterling warned.
"You..."
Before he could finish, Chloe Sterling gently pushed him aside. She took a pair of black sunglasses from her pocket, put them on, and immediately concealed most of her face before walking through the crowd toward Jasper Lockwood.
’Damian Rivers thought she had listened to him, but it was pointless. With Silas Coldwell’s resources, he could still find her.’
He pinched the bridge of his nose and followed her helplessly.
’Chloe Sterling only wore the sunglasses because she didn’t want others to get a clear look at her face. As for Silas Coldwell... he would recognize her even if she were turned to ash.’
As she neared the front, Chloe Sterling noticed Phoebe Sinclair sitting two rows behind Jasper Lockwood, her eyes fixed unblinkingly on his back.
Chloe Sterling spared her a single glance before looking away and walking to the empty seat beside Jasper Lockwood.
When someone sat down beside him, Jasper Lockwood glanced over. Seeing it was her, a flash of surprise crossed his phoenix eyes. "Chloe, what are you doing here?"
Chloe Sterling whispered, "Stop competing with Silas Coldwell. You’ve already lost a lot of money."
But Jasper Lockwood’s lips curled into a smirk. "How do you know? Did that computer-savvy friend of yours tell you?"
Chloe Sterling: "...I’m being serious with you."
"Didn’t I tell you not to worry about it? This is between him and me." Jasper Lockwood leaned close to her ear and whispered, "It’s fine. Your husband doesn’t care about this little bit of money."
The tips of Chloe Sterling’s ears instantly flushed crimson.
Sitting behind them, Phoebe Sinclair watched Chloe Sterling’s sudden appearance and their intimate exchange. Her eyes were practically shooting flames!
’How is a lowly woman like her worthy of being at an event like this? How is she worthy of sitting next to Jasper Lockwood!’
Many people nearby cast curious glances their way, wondering who the woman beside Jasper Lockwood was.
Could she be the rumored Mrs. Lockwood?
Everyone wanted to catch a glimpse of her face, to see what kind of goddess had captured the heart of this Crestfall magnate.
Unfortunately, the woman wore sunglasses that obscured her features, but even so, she still projected an image of absolute beauty.
Silas Coldwell also noticed Chloe Sterling’s sudden appearance. His cold, almond-shaped eyes glanced over, full of displeasure!
Chloe Sterling said again, "Stop competing with him. I have a way."
But Jasper Lockwood gripped her hand. "You are not to go to him, and you are definitely not to get near him!"
"So you’re just going to keep bidding several times the market price?"
"I don’t care." Jasper Lockwood held her hand tightly, his voice low and raspy. "Chloe, don’t go near him again."
Chloe Sterling froze for a moment. "I just want to say a few words to him."
Jasper Lockwood’s tone was firm. "Absolutely not! This is between him and me. I don’t need you to step in and solve it."
Seeing how insistent he was, Chloe Sterling didn’t say anything more.
Silas Coldwell had already looked away, intent on fighting Jasper Lockwood to the bitter end!
Phoebe Sinclair noticed the look in Silas Coldwell’s eyes just now. Recalling what he had said at the hotel, a plan suddenly formed in her mind, and a venomous smile curled her lips.
From his position slightly behind and to the side, Damian Rivers noticed her expression, and his eyes darkened.
Once the bidding concluded, the battle between Jasper Lockwood and Silas Coldwell came to a temporary halt. It seemed neither had gained an advantage, and both had spent a lot of unnecessary money.
Before leaving, Silas Coldwell shot Chloe Sterling a glance, then departed with a few of his men.
Jasper Lockwood watched his retreating back, his gaze deepening slightly.
"Let’s go," Chloe Sterling said.
"Alright." Jasper Lockwood took her hand, and they left together.
Phoebe Sinclair slipped through the crowd to secretly follow Silas Coldwell. Damian Rivers trailed behind her. When he confirmed she was going after Silas, he grabbed her. "Phoebe Sinclair, what do you think you’re doing?"
"What are you doing here?" Phoebe Sinclair looked at him in surprise, then paused before adding, "Don’t tell me you came with Chloe Sterling. Damian Rivers, I should be asking you—what do you think you’re doing? Protecting Chloe Sterling?"
"That’s right!" Damian Rivers said. "I know what you’re planning, and I suggest you don’t go through with it! Do you think someone like Silas Coldwell can be used by you? Don’t end up failing and bringing disaster upon yourself."
"I don’t need you to meddle! Let me go!" Phoebe Sinclair struggled, but couldn’t break free.
Damian Rivers frowned and then threatened, "Do you want me to tell Jasper Lockwood? If he found out what you’re doing, what do you think he would do to you? Do you think you’d ever have another chance to get close to him?"
Phoebe Sinclair glared at him hatefully and fell silent.
’She didn’t dare let Jasper Lockwood find out, nor could she bear the brunt of his fury.’
Seeing that she was scared, Damian Rivers pulled her away in the other direction.
In the hallway, Chloe Sterling glanced around but didn’t see any sign of Damian Rivers. She had no idea where he’d run off to.
’But there was nothing to worry about. The Heir of the Rivers Family wouldn’t get himself lost.’
"What are you looking for?" Jasper Lockwood’s voice suddenly sounded by her ear. He then added, "Damian Rivers? Did you come with him?"
Chloe Sterling looked up. "Did you see him?"
Jasper Lockwood huffed. "I’d rather not!"
Chloe Sterling: "......."
In the underground parking garage, Henry Chamberlain drove the car over.
Chloe Sterling glanced into the distance. "My car is over there."
"Have Henry Chamberlain drive it back. You’re riding with me." As he spoke, Jasper Lockwood took the car keys from her hand and gave them to Henry Chamberlain.
"But I..."
Before Chloe Sterling could finish, Jasper Lockwood’s large hand suddenly wrapped around her waist, pulling her into his embrace as he lowered his head and kissed her lips.
Chloe Sterling: "..."
Henry Chamberlain: "..."
The other two bodyguards: "......."
After a few seconds, Jasper Lockwood lifted his head, a roguish smile on his face. "No ’buts.’ Let’s go."
With that, he pulled a bewildered Chloe Sterling into the car.
Not far away, Phoebe Sinclair, who had witnessed the scene, said in a low, tense voice, "Aren’t you going to let go of me yet?!"
Damian Rivers had also seen everything, and his expression wasn’t good either. He immediately let her go.
