On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 68: His Methods and Rules
Rose Lynch tugged on Warren Sterling’s sleeve. "They... they’ve taken Esther! Warren, you have to think of something!"
Warren Sterling’s voice was grim. "Contact Ruby and Young Master Rivers at once."
"Young Master Rivers! That’s right, Young Master Rivers is fond of Esther. He’ll definitely find a way to save her." Rose Lynch pulled out her phone to make a call, but there was still no signal.
"Why is there still no signal!"
"Don’t bother calling! They’ve blocked the signal. We’re going straight to the Rivers family!"
With that, Warren Sterling strode toward the garage, and Rose Lynch hurried after him.
「Country E.」
Chloe Sterling and Jasper Lockwood were sitting by the pool.
Henry Chamberlain approached, looking as if he were marching to his death. "Sir..."
Jasper Lockwood looked up. Seeing the man’s expression, he assumed something else had happened, and his voice grew cold. "What is it?"
"Silas Coldwell broke into the Sterling family’s home and abducted Esther Sterling."
Chloe Sterling was speechless.
’Classic Silas Coldwell.’
Jasper Lockwood said, "Get her back, then have Vincent Henson handle it."
"Don’t!" Chloe Sterling said. "You’ll just end up clashing with Silas Coldwell again. Let him be."
"Absolutely not! There’s no point if he just grabs her to teach her a lesson or give her a scare. Esther Sterling must publicly apologize to you and face legal consequences for slandering your name with those rumors."
What Jasper Lockwood wanted was for Esther Sterling’s reputation in Crestfall to be utterly destroyed.
’He was even more ruthless than Silas Coldwell!’
For Esther Sterling, both a ruined reputation and a prison sentence were fates worse than death.
Esther Sterling, just like Rose Lynch, cared immensely about appearances and status.
After a moment of silence, Chloe Sterling said, "Still, there’s no need to fight Silas Coldwell for her right now. He won’t kill Esther Sterling. It won’t be too late to act after he lets her go."
"This has nothing to do with him. He never should have gotten involved in the first place!" Jasper Lockwood stared at her, his expression earnest. "Chloe, you don’t understand me. In the business world, Silas Coldwell is hardly even a rival to me."
Chloe Sterling truly didn’t know the full extent of Jasper Lockwood’s power. She had never investigated him; like most people, she had only seen what was on the surface.
On the surface, the Lockwood Group and Nocturne Group appeared to be evenly matched, but in reality, Jasper Lockwood’s hidden forces were far more powerful. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Before Chloe Sterling could say another word, Jasper Lockwood commanded Henry Chamberlain again, "Retrieve her and hand her over to Vincent Henson!"
Henry Chamberlain bowed his head. "Yes, sir. I’ll pass on the order immediately."
Chloe Sterling suddenly pinched the bridge of her nose, looking resigned.
Jasper Lockwood watched her and suddenly asked, "Are you... worried about Silas Coldwell too?"
It was no wonder he thought so. After all, Chloe Sterling had helped Silas Coldwell right before they came to Country E. While it had been for Jasper’s sake, that hadn’t been the only reason.
"What is there to worry about when it comes to him?" Chloe Sterling said. "I just don’t want you two fighting each other, only for a third party to reap the benefits."
"I’ve been caught up in family infighting since I was fourteen. The internal struggles never stopped even after I took over the group, and on top of that, I had to fight off external rivals. Silas Coldwell is just one of many enemies. If not for his connection to you, he’d be no different from any of the others to me."
Chloe Sterling looked at the man before her, speechless for a moment.
She’d almost forgotten. A man in Jasper Lockwood’s position was constantly embroiled in open and secret conflicts. Even without Silas Coldwell, there would always be another opponent.
And he had his own methods—methods that made his opponents wary and filled them with fear.
His authority could not be challenged. If anyone dared to, he had to meet them head-on and retaliate. That was his rule.
Chloe Sterling pursed her lips. "I understand. But some conflicts are avoidable, Jasper. They’re unnecessary."
With that, she pulled out her phone and dialed Silas Coldwell’s number. He answered almost immediately. "Baby, I knew you’d call me."
Chloe Sterling’s brow furrowed slightly as she got straight to the point. "Silas, let Esther Sterling go."
Silas Coldwell was stunned for a moment. "What did you say? Let her go? What, are you playing the saint now? After everything that woman did to you, you want to let her off the hook?"
"I have my own plans. Just let her go for now. I’ll handle it myself."
"Hmph! Are *you* going to handle it, or is Jasper Lockwood going to handle it for you?"
"Is there a difference?"
"Of course there’s a difference! You’re you, and he’s him!"
Listening to their call, Jasper Lockwood was gripping the glass in his hand so tightly it threatened to shatter.
Chloe Sterling noticed his grip and quickly added into the phone, "Just let her go. I have a plan!"
After a moment of silence, Silas Coldwell’s voice came through the line again, but he was speaking to one of his men. "Splash some water on this woman to wake her up, then toss her out!"
Chloe Sterling secretly breathed a sigh of relief. "I’m hanging up now."
Silas Coldwell didn’t respond; he just hung up.
Chloe Sterling was taken aback for a moment but didn’t dwell on it.
A short while later, Henry Chamberlain returned. "Sir, Silas Coldwell suddenly threw her out. Our people have taken custody of Esther Sterling."
Jasper Lockwood’s thin lips pressed into a firm line. He said nothing.
’I would’ve rather taken her back by force than have him release her just because Chloe said so.’
Seeing his silence, Chloe Sterling spoke up. "We understand, Henry. You may go."
"Yes."
Henry Chamberlain didn’t understand his boss’s expression, but he didn’t dare ask, so he promptly left.
Looking at the man’s devastatingly handsome and cold face, Chloe Sterling asked, "Are you angry?"
"I wouldn’t say angry." Jasper Lockwood leveled his long, elegant eyes at her. "But I am certainly not pleased. There’s a man constantly after my wife, and my wife is still in contact with him. I have a strong urge to beat him to death."
Chloe was speechless.
’In terms of raw fighting ability, Silas really wouldn’t be a match for him in a one-on-one fight.’
In fact, Chloe Sterling had always been curious about his incredible fighting prowess. So she asked, "Jasper, how did you get so good? When did you start training? Who taught you kung fu?"
Despite the abrupt change of subject, Jasper Lockwood answered readily. "I started training when I was three. My family hired an Ancient Martial Arts master."
"Three years old! You started that young!"
Chloe Sterling was astonished. Practicing Ancient Martial Arts was exhausting and grueling, demanding immense willpower. She couldn’t believe that Jasper Lockwood, the most revered figure in the Lockwood family, had endured such hardship since the age of three.
She had begun training with her master at the age of twelve; she knew the agony of it all too well.
"Yes. That’s why I have the skills I do today," Jasper Lockwood said.
Chloe Sterling nodded. "But you’re also incredibly talented. Many people train their whole lives and never become half as skilled as you."
"I know," Jasper Lockwood replied without a shred of modesty. It was, after all, the truth.
At that, Chloe Sterling let out a laugh.
Just then, Jasper Lockwood’s phone rang. It was an unknown number. He paused for a few seconds before answering. "Hello?"
A woman’s voice came through the phone. "It’s me, Jasper. Have you seen the trending topics back home today? Chloe Sterling is..."
"Where did you get my number?" Jasper Lockwood demanded coldly, cutting Phoebe Sinclair off before she could finish.
"I... I got it from a friend."
"Don’t ever call me again!" With that cold pronouncement, Jasper Lockwood hung up.
Chloe Sterling looked at him with suspicion. "Who was that?"
Jasper Lockwood didn’t hide it from her. "Phoebe Sinclair," he answered truthfully.
Chloe Sterling raised an eyebrow. "Oh."
