On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 81: Birthday Surprise
The young man in the car leaned lazily against the passenger seat and asked Julian Xavier, who was walking over, "So? What time can Chloe leave?"
"She has something to do, so she can’t make it."
"Huh? So is she not celebrating her birthday?"
Julian Xavier opened the back door and picked up a gift bag from the rear seat. "I don’t know. Wait for me, I’m going back up for a minute."
"You’re going to give her the gift now?"
"Yeah."
The man leaned over with a grin and suddenly asked, "Julian, be honest. You like Chloe, don’t you?"
Julian Xavier shot him a look. "What are you talking about? I’ve told you before, I just see her as a little sister."
"Really?"
"Obviously!" Julian Xavier said. "I just want to look out for her. The girl has it tough. It’s just bad luck she ended up with such a pair of asshole parents."
The man nodded. "Yeah, that’s true."
Julian Xavier didn’t waste any more time talking to him. He shut the car door and headed back toward the laboratory building. After giving the gift to Chloe Sterling, Julian left.
Chloe Sterling clutched the gift bag, standing in place for a long moment before she slowly walked into the locker room and placed the gift inside her locker.
"Chloe, I didn’t realize today was your birthday," Maya Jacobs said. She had just overheard Julian Xavier wish her a happy birthday.
"It is." Chloe Sterling nodded.
"Is Young Master Xavier celebrating with you? You should leave early today, then. Don’t overwork yourself."
"I’ll leave at three."
"Oh." Maya Jacobs giggled. "Young Master Xavier is so good to you."
"Julian and Director Xavier are both very kind people, but I’m leaving early for something else, not to celebrate my birthday."
"Huh? You’re not celebrating your birthday?"
"No."
At three in the afternoon, Jasper Lockwood’s car appeared right on time at the entrance of The Medical College.
Chloe Sterling came out right on time and got into the car.
"Where are we going?"
A slight smile touched Jasper Lockwood’s lips. "You’ll know when we get there."
After he spoke, his eyes fell on the gift bag in Chloe Sterling’s hands. Realizing it was a present, he asked, "What’s this?"
Chloe Sterling glanced at the bag in her hands and replied, "It’s... something from Julian Xavier."
She expected Jasper Lockwood would ask why Julian Xavier had suddenly given her a gift, and she had even prepared an explanation. But in the end, Jasper just said, "Oh," and didn’t pursue it.
Chloe Sterling was a bit surprised, but she also breathed a sigh of relief.
She didn’t want to bring up her birthday. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
The car drove on, reaching its destination nearly two hours later.
Chloe Sterling stared out the window at the endless expanse of sea and the dock. She was stunned for a moment, then asked, "A dock? What are we doing here?"
Jasper Lockwood pointed to a cruise ship at the dock. "We’re going on board."
"To sea?" Chloe asked, confused.
"Mhm." A faint smile played on Jasper Lockwood’s lips.
A moment later, they got out of the car and headed straight for the dock.
Chloe was full of suspicion, wondering what on earth Jasper Lockwood was up to.
Before long, they boarded the cruise ship, and Chloe Sterling was completely stunned.
The cruise ship had been meticulously decorated with countless roses, colorful balloons, and two large words: "Happy Birthday."
After standing there stunned for a long moment, it dawned on Chloe Sterling. Jasper Lockwood was throwing her a birthday party. He knew it was her birthday today.
"How... how did you know today was my birthday?"
Jasper Lockwood lifted her chin with his fingers. "Mrs. Lockwood, I not only know it’s your birthday today, I also know you’re my wife."
Chloe Sterling: "..."
"Let’s go take a look inside." Jasper Lockwood released her chin, instead taking her hand and leading her into the ship’s interior. All three decks had been exquisitely decorated.
They finally stopped on the third-level deck. Jasper Lockwood turned to face her and asked softly, "Do you like it?"
"Yes," Chloe Sterling nodded. "Thank you."
"I’ve told you not to thank me."
Chloe Sterling: "...Alright."
As they stood on the deck, the cruise ship slowly began to move, drifting out into the open sea.
Jasper Lockwood’s deep gaze was fixed on the horizon as he said softly, "How about we spend the night out at sea?"
"Okay," Chloe Sterling agreed. She was still in a state of shock, not having fully processed everything yet.
Jasper Lockwood said no more, quietly watching the distant horizon.
A gentle breeze swept over them, rustling their hair.
Chloe Sterling suddenly sat down. A small smile touched Jasper Lockwood’s lips, and he sat down beside her.
They sat there just like that until sunset.
Chloe Sterling had long heard that sunsets at sea were incredibly beautiful, but she had never seen one. This was her first time on a cruise ship, and her first time watching a sunset from one.
The breathtaking beauty of it was impossible to describe with words.
The sun disappeared completely below the horizon, and as night fell, the cruise ship lit up with brilliant lights.
They returned to the first deck, where a dining table had just been set with fresh flowers, a birthday cake, and a spread of gourmet food and fine wine.
There was no one else around; it was quiet and lovely.
Jasper Lockwood led Chloe Sterling over to the table and lit the candles on the cake one by one. Then he said softly, "Chloe, happy birthday."
Chloe Sterling looked at him, momentarily at a loss for words.
"Make a wish."
After a brief pause, Chloe Sterling slowly closed her eyes and began to make her wish.
About a minute later, she opened her eyes.
"What did you wish for?" Jasper Lockwood asked suddenly.
Chloe Sterling replied, "If I say it out loud, it won’t come true, right?"
Even though she didn’t usually celebrate her birthday, she knew the superstition.
Jasper Lockwood chuckled softly. "Saying it out loud might make it easier to come true."
A small smile played on Chloe Sterling’s lips. "Are you going to make it come true for me?"
"Yes," Jasper Lockwood answered with complete seriousness.
A warm feeling spread through Chloe Sterling’s heart. She said softly, "Jasper Lockwood, thank you."
Jasper Lockwood: "...Why are you thanking me again?"
"I want to thank you. I mean it," Chloe Sterling said earnestly, looking right at him.
Jasper Lockwood sighed to himself. ’She’s always so formal with me.’
"Let’s cut the cake." Jasper Lockwood picked up the nearby cake knife and handed it to her.
Chloe Sterling took it, handing the first slice she cut to Jasper Lockwood. "Have some cake."
"Not just yet." Jasper Lockwood took the slice of cake and set it down. He then pulled an exquisite velvet box from his pocket. Opening it revealed a diamond necklace.
The necklace was encrusted with dozens of extremely precious and rare pink diamonds.
He took out the necklace and added, "Turn around. Let me put your birthday gift on for you."
"This... this is too expensive," Chloe Sterling refused instinctively.
"Not as precious as you are." Without waiting for her to turn, Jasper Lockwood reached his arms around her and fastened the necklace.
Chloe Sterling: "..."
Inside a room, several people were observing the scene outside through a glass window.
"The Second Master is so good to Mrs. Lockwood. So romantic."
"What are they talking about? Is Mrs. Lockwood about to cry from being so moved?"
"It looks like... she isn’t."
"That can’t be right. All girls love romance. How could Mrs. Lockwood not be moved by the Second Master’s incredibly romantic and meticulous planning?"
"She might be moved and just not show it. Mrs. Lockwood isn’t an ordinary woman, after all."
"That’s true. I mean, who would have thought that Mrs. Lockwood is actually the famous top-level pharmacist, Lynn Chester?"
