Chapter 515: Sticky Situation

Cherry sensed Kanjuro making his move.

The painted duplicate of himself in the boat with Kin'emon continued to monologue as his true body snuck up behind Shinobu and Momonosuke. His bad intentions for the young lord were clear.

Beast pirate battleships appeared among the waves and rain, seemingly perfectly timed with Kanuro's grand reveal. Cherry felt that this was way overdramatic. If you were going to go big, you gotta blow something up, not just reveal an army of losers.

Kin'emon finally couldn't stand it any longer and slashed through the duplicate.

Kanjuro leapt forth from his hiding place, painting two long vipers with masterful skill as he surged through the air.

The snakes lunged and wrapped around Shinobu, who was caught completely off guard like some sort of amateur ninja. Cherry supposed that she couldn't be too harsh on the woman, though. She was distracted by the boat and the rain covered up both the sound and scent of the traitor's already competent approach. Though, she really ought to be paying more attention to her charge, at least.

Kanjuro grabbed Momonosuke around the neck, the boy's hands prying at the offending limb uselessly.

"For the first time in many years, Orochi gave me new orders! To bring Momonosuke to Onigashima, so that he may suffer the same fate that we Kurozumi have whenever you animals find us!" Kanjuro delighted in the shock he saw appear on his friends' faces.

They did not have the chance to reply, as they were forced to defend themselves against the cannon fire the small contingent of battleships leveled at their little dinghy. Even with their power, being dumped into these stormy waters was all but a death sentence. That went triple for the devil fruit users among them.

The sole exception was Kawamatsu, a fishman that Cherry only had a few very brief interactions with. Naturally, he could breathe underwater even if he fell into the sea.

The boy struggled in Kanjuro's heartless grasp, but Cherry did not yet take action, continuing to observe the scene in mild disinterest.

Things looked dire indeed, but not all was lost.

*BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM*

Cannon fire was shot, not at the dinghy, but at the Beast pirates' ships. Three new ships entered the fray; the Thousand Sunny, Law's submarine, and another ship that seemed to be owned by Eustass Kid.

Cherry almost frowned at the sight of the latter figure. This guy was going to try and steal some credit for the fall of Kaido, she just knew it.

The question was, did she care enough to stop him?

No, not really. If Luffy wanted them swept out of the way then she'd do it, but otherwise he could just play pretend as a big leagues pirate until he bit off more than he could chew one day and disappeared.

With the sudden appearance of several members of the Worst Generation, the battle quickly started to turn around in their favor. These were just cannon fodder amongst the Beast pirates, after all. They didn't need to be strong to fire cannons at an easy target. They were probably disliked among the Beast pirates too, since they were made to come here instead of enjoying the festivities on Onigashima.

Kanjuro's arm tightened around Momonosuke's neck. He was starting to get nervous, Cherry could tell, but hadn't quite lost his confidence yet. He was still sticking around to watch what happened. Perhaps it was all those years he spent doing just that that kept him waiting.

'Come on, come on. Hurry up, Kin'emon, I can't get him until the big reveal!' Cherry thought impatiently.

That was the only reason she was waiting so long. She wanted to see the look on the fool's face when he found out that he'd been played.

The sea battle raged for a few moments before another set of ships appeared. This time it was Denjiro with a host of the warriors who had gone to Hato Port instead of Tokage Port, as was told to Kanjuro. Cherry readied herself to act, knowing that the time was nigh!

"As expected of you, Kin'emon!" Denjiro called out. "Your and Yasuie-sama's plan was ingenious! To think that you would root out the traitor by feeding them false information! You are truly the best among us to lead us into battle!"

The man was a bit more long winded than that, but Cherry was only half paying attention to him. She already knew the gist of everything, so she kept her focus on Kanjuro.

Cherry wasn't disappointed. Despite his prodigious acting skill, he couldn't keep the naked shock off of his face.

"Yasuie and I cannot take all the credit, Denjiro!" Kin'emon shouted back, his earlier panic had completely vanished from his face and was replaced by the surety of stone. "It was Cherry-dono who confirmed that there was a traitor for certain. I asked her to keep Kanjur's treachery a secret even from myself, so that I may place all my trust in my comrades without any trace of dishonesty."

Kin'emon leveled his gaze at Kanjuro across the span of water between them. "What do you think, Kanjuro? Was my acting any good?"

"Don't pretend like all is well and under your control!" Kanjuro sneered, beginning to paint a great bird to escape with. "I still have Momonosuke, in case you have forgotten! I might just kill him now and be done with it!"

Kawamatsu sprang into the water. With unnatural swiftness he ripped across the surface and swung his blade at Kanjuro, aimed at the man's heart.

Kanjuro blocked it with his brush with ease, having seen the attack coming with plenty of time to prepare for it. An enormous crane burst forth from the ground beneath him and Momonosuke, bringing them into the sky and out of the fishman's reach.

"Now that I know that Hiyori still lives, I'll be sure to hunt her down and end her as well! Kakaka!" Kanjuro mocked.

Kin'emon however, did not seem concerned at all.

"What's wrong with you, Kin-san?! He's getting away with Momonosuke-sama and you don't even care?!" Kiku shouted, her emotions still running rampant in her heart.

"Momonosuke-sama is perfectly safe right where he is," Kin'emon responded.

"Huh?!" Kiku hadn't a clue what he was talking about. Momonosuke was clearly being kidnapped by a man who'd kill him as easily as he breathed!

The other Red Scabbards and Kanjuro were similarly confused by the statement. At least until-

"I can't believe Kin'emon figured it out. This is a new low for me," Momonosuke said, suddenly just as unconcerned as Kin'emon was.

"Eh?!" Kanjuro exclaimed.

"""Eh?!""" the Red Scabbards followed his lead.

Momonosuke's head twisted around backwards. "Did you already forget what Kin'emon told you? I knew you were the traitor this whole time."

Kanjuro's eyes widened with not shock, but horror. He tried the push the not-boy off of his flying mount, but his heart dropped into his stomach and beyond as he found that the fake Momonosuke was stuck fast to his arm, as if with a powerful glue.

"HeheheHEheHEhe~!" Not-Momonosuke cackled at his body morphed and grew.

"I've been waiting a long time for this, you pasty freak!" Cherry smiled at him like the devil come to take his due.
