One Piece: King of the World-Chapter 338: The Impel Down Prison Break!
The Great Underwater Prison—Impel Down.
At this moment, Impel Down was in complete chaos. No one knew what had happened, but all communication equipment had been destroyed, cutting off all contact with the outside world. Prisoners from the third level and below had already begun to escape.
A large number of inmates, confused yet seizing the opportunity, broke free from their cells.
Magellan, the prison warden, was currently doing his best to suppress the chaos, but his mood was extremely grim. Multiple suppression teams had been dispatched into the disorderly areas, yet none had returned or reported back. The situation was spiraling out of control.
"There's a traitor among us!" Magellan suddenly said in a deep voice.
Hannyabal, who would usually try to weasel out of responsibility, didn't dare joke at a time like this. His expression turned serious as he quickly asked, "Magellan, what do you mean?"
"Cutting off our communications… that's not something an ordinary prisoner could do. They wouldn't know where the communication systems are located. And unlocking the prison cells requires keys. Multiple keys.
"Our response strategies have been countered step-by-step.
"So, among these rioting inmates… there must be someone familiar with the inner workings of Impel Down," Magellan said, his voice grave.
Hannyabal's brow furrowed in anger. "Are you saying...?"
"Shiryu!" Magellan spat out the name without hesitation, his expression darkening further.
"Warden Shiryu?" Hannyabal was stunned.
"That's right. He's the only one who knows this much about the prison's infrastructure. And he has the motive. Damn it! I never should've believed he wanted to reform. I should've just locked him up from the start!" Magellan cursed, his fists clenched.
It was all too clear now. Shiryu had been missing since the chaos began, and no one had been able to contact him.
As more prisoners broke free, the more obvious it became: the escapees were familiar with the prison's defenses and strategies. Magellan felt like a fool for not realizing it sooner.
"What should we do now, Director?" Hannyabal asked worriedly.
"Focus on repairing the communication equipment immediately. Get the Den Den Mushi back online so we can contact Marine Headquarters. This situation is too coincidental. There might be a larger conspiracy at play. We need reinforcements!" Magellan ordered.
"The repair crews are already on it. They estimate it'll take about two hours," Hannyabal reported.
"Two hours…" Magellan's face darkened further. "Even if we manage to send the signal, it'll take the Marines at least three hours to arrive. And with the battle raging at Marineford, I doubt they'll have the resources to spare."
"Director… can't you handle it yourself?" Hannyabal asked in surprise.
Magellan shook his head. "Do you think Shiryu would leave the prisoners of Level 6, Eternal Hell behind?"
Hannyabal froze. The prisoners of Level 6 were the worst of the worst, monsters the world wanted forgotten. If they were involved, this chaos was only the beginning.
"You're right. If the Level 6 prisoners are out, this won't be easy to contain," Hannyabal said, his voice trembling.
"Exactly. Now we can only hope Shiryu hasn't released too many of them already," Magellan said, his gaze fixed on the dark staircase leading down to the prison's lower depths.

Meanwhile, at the entrance of the third level…
Katakuri tossed an unconscious jailer aside like a ragdoll. He wore a black-and-white prison uniform, his mouth exposed beneath the cloth. Even someone as stoic as him couldn't hide the excitement in his eyes.
Ever since being defeated by Kuzan and imprisoned alongside his mother, Charlotte Linlin, Katakuri had felt a deep sense of hopelessness. But now… a traitor in Impel Down had given them a second chance. A prison break? An opportunity to turn things around?

He glanced back. Katakuri was no small name, he had been one of the top figures of the Big Mom Pirates. But compared to the individuals behind him, even he seemed insignificant.
The ones following him were true monsters.
The Golden Lion—Shiki.
The Demon Heir—Douglas Bullet.
The Emperor of the Seas—Charlotte Linlin, his mother.
The Red Earl—Redfield.
Behind these notorious figures came others: the Giant Barrel, the Crescent Moon Hunter, the Evil King, and many more infamous criminals. These were the worst of the worst, the kind of people whose very names struck fear across the seas.
Originally, they had considered freeing Byrnndi World as well, but that lunatic had been frozen in his cell. Shiryu had left the keys behind, though. If the ice melted in time, World might still join the escape. If not… tough luck.
The escape from Eternal Hell hadn't been smooth either. Even though they'd all been imprisoned together, old grudges ran deep. As soon as the cells were opened, chaos erupted. Fights broke out between prisoners who'd wanted each other dead for years.
But the ones standing here now were the survivors, monsters who'd maintained their strength despite years of imprisonment.
Take Shiki, for example. He'd lost both legs and had a rudder stuck in his skull. Under normal circumstances, his Haki should've weakened after years of confinement. Yet, in the silence of his cell, he'd focused entirely on mastering his abilities. Somehow, he'd found a way to break through the limits imposed by the rudder and the seastone shackles.
The moment he was freed, Shiki immediately clashed with Charlotte Linlin. Neither managed to defeat the other, but their brief battle had shaken the prison walls. It was Shiryu who ultimately convinced them to stop fighting and save their strength for what lay ahead.
Besides, Shiryu had dangled a tantalizing piece of information in front of them: Whitebeard was currently locked in battle with the Marines at Marineford.
Shiki and Linlin initially showed little interest. They had no intention of getting involved in someone else's war. Their plan was simple: escape Impel Down, regroup in the New World, and then plunge the world into chaos.
But then Shiryu mentioned a certain name: Donquixote Claudius.
The atmosphere shifted instantly.
Claudius the man who'd destroyed so many of their ambitions was at Marineford.
Shiki, Charlotte Linlin, and several others had harbored deep hatred for Claudius for years. If not for him, Shiki might've killed Roger and become Pirate King. Linlin might have secured her dominance over the seas. Instead, they were imprisoned like animals.
Now, the opportunity for revenge was right in front of them.
The Red Earl remained uninterested in the battle, choosing instead to stay neutral. But Shiki and Linlin made their decision: they were going to Marineford.
Shiryu, meanwhile, had his own plan. He hoped to find Blackbeard there. If Teach proved to be the ambitious man Shiryu believed him to be, he'd offer his services. If not… well, there were always other options.
Freedom was all that mattered to Shiryu. Once he escaped Impel Down, he could carve his path however he pleased.
---
Shiryu looked up the staircase. "Magellan should be waiting for us up there."
"Then let's go kill him!" Bullet growled.
"Hold on." Shiryu pulled out a handful of small vials and distributed them.
"What's this?" Bullet asked.
"Antidotes," Shiryu said with a grin. "Magellan's poison is his deadliest weapon. With these, we won't have to worry about it."
Shiki laughed. "Jihahahaha! With these in hand, Magellan's greatest trump card is useless!"
Indeed, Impel Down was a fortress of unimaginable security. But when the traitor who knew its inner workings helped open its gates… even the world's most impenetrable prison would fall into chaos.
