One Piece: Madness of Regret-Chapter 36: Rain, Storm and Whales. Again!(9)
Chapter 36 - Rain, Storm and Whales. Again!(9)
I knew how to go back to the fog. I knew how to go back to the Cathedral. I had a way to see the kids once more.
Was it risky? Yes.
Was it dangerous? Yes.
Was it needed? Absolutely. I had a pinky promise to complete.
And I will complete it.
But for now, I needed to take care of my current situation. The swarm of Anglerfish were coming for the brick and for me. The whale on which I stood was still and only vibrating, periodically letting out calls, I think.
I can foresee myself dead but if it was like that I should have already been dead. Sure, I could hide the bricks and survive but what use would it be?
If I put them away now, I would put them away forever.
I moved my body to what I believe was the or the middle of the whale. Chances are the Anglerfish Leviathan don't jump out of waters like shark or the Apex Leviathan. They are deep-sea creature and not honed to do that. Granted they might have the speed, strength to pull that of but I am willing to bet they can't.
They were approaching. I could feel it. The cold rain that fell on me were getting warmer. I could see the light, blood red light approaching giving of heat. Every single drop that fell near the light gave out a fizzle and evaporated into steam.
The light were strong enough to boil waters.

The whale beneath me was trembling now, not vibrating but trembling. Was it because of heat? Or the fear of being devoured? Who knows? Who cares?
And I guess I was right. The Anglerfish were roaring, I couldn't hear them but the air that escaped from them were stronger than the stormy wind. Strong enough to make me fall but not strong enough to make me fly.
They were roaring. They wanted the brick. Every movement they made, their light lure would strike the whale skin. The light lure would cook the whale skin with every strike. Yet, the whale wasn't moving.
The Anglerfish were getting impatient. I could see and feel them with every movement. And then one Anglerfish roared and bit on the whale. Its sharp teeth piercing the whale skin. It even did a death roll to dismember the whale. Luckily, the whale was bigger than the Anglerfish so it didn't roll.
Once one started to do it, others followed. Every single one of the Anglerfish started to dismember the whale trying to reach me. The whale was bellowing in pain. I couldn't hear it but I could feel it.
'Sorry, buddy better you than me. If it wasn't for the baby whale I wouldn't even be here.' I gave a soft apology and focused on the Anglerfish.
I had a plan but I had a guess. A guess if proved true could help me survive.
The surrounding temperature was rising. The Anglerfish had dismembered enough part of the whale to be near. Near enough for me to feel steam rise from me. They were about a 100 meter away from me.
I slowly stepped away from the center and backwards from the Anglerfish. I needed time to prove my guess.
Step by step I was closer to the Leviathan than I was to the edge. I held my bricks tight. My chomp of the Anglerfish and I am dead.
I took a deep breathe. And started running towards the Anglerfish near to me. I jumped towards its light lure trying to clung on it. Yes, I knew it was a stupid plan. A plan made by a mad person.
I would be burned by the light lure but if I survive I could climb on the Anglerfish back making other Anglerfish dismember it like the Whale. And I could jump on another with luck.
Hot. It was smoking hot. My hair was on fire. My clothes were burning as I clutched onto the lure. I could feel the fabric burn and latch onto my skin and flesh. My eyes felt like they were melting.
But my arms and leg could move. So, I climbed. If my body could move then I would move.
I climbed its long lure. Every meter I climbed on its lure it became colder. I don't know how far I went but my arms gave way and I fell. On top of the Anglerfish head. The head I fell on was dry so I didn't slip.
The fabric from my clothes had already burned and mixed with my skin. My eyes were hot. The inside of its were boiling. But I could see. Everything in red but I could still see. My arms and legs were not in good condition too but were they ever in a good condition after I came here?
I stayed there wanting to stay more and more like this. But the anglerfish beneath me didn't want to. It was frantic. Moving its head here and there. Like it knew the general direction of the me but not the exact location.
The other Anglerfish were pretty sure of my location. They were swimming towards me. I stood there on the Anglerfish head clutching the Anglerfish lure base.
All the other Anglerfish approached while the Anglerfish I stood on moved in circle, maybe trying to throw me in the sea, maybe trying to find me. Who knows?
Then the chaos started, one orchestrated by me, All the anglerfish started hurling themselves towards the Anglerfish I stood on. Some bit its tail. Some bit its fins. Some slammed into it hopping to knock me to the waters. Some bit its mouth.
The Anglerfish fought against its cannibals counterpart. While I clutched the lure base for dear life. While they fought, the other lure would strike near me and sometimes me. They burned me when they strike near me. They burned me alive when they hit me.
But I hung on for dear life. While the Anglerfish turned cannibal. The lights of the Anglerfish showed me what was happening. The back of the Anglerfish was being torn to bits having no significant protection aside from scale or fat skin. While the head part I stood on had less damage as the Anglerfish fought for life with its razor sharp teeth.
My eyes were boiling with every lure that passed by me or with me with force that made me puke blood. But I kept my eyes open. I had to jump onto another one when this one died.
And it was close to dying.
I took a deep breath and prepared to jump. I was going to get burned again but did it matter.
I could choose the smaller light lure and jump but the bigger one gave me more protection. Sure the bigger one would burn me the most but it was necessary to survive.
I observed and noticed a big lure that would hit near me at certain intervals. I let go of the base that I held tight and prepared to jump. Not directly to the lure but the part that connected it. 'That way I would be burned less.' And then the light lure struck on the head and I ran towards it.
My injuries made me slow and miscalculate my speed and when I jumped. I was once again met with the harsh burning light glow. This one was even hotter. I wanted to scream. I wanted to shout. I wanted to curse even more. But like hell that would do me any favor. I climbed on its lure. I climbed it like a fucking koala on a tree.
My legs and arms were giving way. They had been burned, muscles pulled beyond normal, torn and healed. Now they had to once more support my weight while I koala climbed. Like hell they will give way. I clutched the lure tight. My body was screaming but who fucking cared.
I koala climbed all the way to the base. I was burned. My blood was boiling. My wounds were steaming. My eyes were half cooked. But I reached in one piece to the next Anglerfish. A few tens of time more and I will have killed most of the Anglerfish leviathan.
Now the others Anglerfish were fighting the Anglerfish on which I stood. Even the previously torn apart Anglerfish was coming. The bricks had much more attraction to the Leviathans than I knew.
And I clutched tight on the base of the lure. This Anglerfish was going to meet the same fate as the previous fish. Eaten by its own. Torn to bits by its own. So I waited. Nothing unexpected was going to happen. All I needed to do was make sure I was alive while I jumped and koala climbed from one Leviathan to another.
I gave a slap to my burnt face. I set up a fucking red flag, didn't I?
And voila, in less than a second after I slapped myself. A wave so big came that flipped every single Anglerfish like pancakes into the air. And lucky for me I was flipped too.
And with Lightning as its background, I could see what caused it. I could see what caused the massive wave to occur. I could see it all in slow motion. I could see it all in boiling red.
It was a whale. A much, much bigger whale jumping from the water. And it had a kraken latched onto its head. Both of the beast that came out of the depth were humungous. big enough to make the Anglerfish and the Whale I stood on seem small.
I sighed. This red flag is quite deadly, isn't it? I didn't manifest a red flag. I summoned the black flag that summoned the fucking grim reaper.
Just because the system notification notified there were kraken, siren in the water doesn't mean I want to see them so soon.
I could somehow manage the Anglerfish and benefit from the chaos. But this whale and the kraken. Bruh. just kill me.
Goddamn it. I am not your strongest solider man. Stop sending me the hardest battles.
My arms had given up as my grip had loosened from the base of the lure. I was catapulted far away with the force.
And like a skipping stone, I bounced on the water too many times to remain healthy. Every time I skipped, I slowed down but it still hurt like hell.
And then I hit a brick wall, a Anglerfish leviathan that was hurled a little farther away from me. I swear all the bones in my body had cracks or they were outright in pieces. I was vomiting out blood and flesh.
I was somehow alive. Somehow. My legs were bent in poses I could never dream possible. My lowed half were once more out of use. I don't even want to curse anymore.
My left arm worked. While my right arm had bones protruding out of the skin.
The brick wall I hit with force and stuck like a graffiti. My body was losing grip on it and I was falling on the water below. The water seemed a better option to survive. Because the apex Leviathan taught me many things.
One of them being, If a Leviathan jumped out of the water making a wave then it will make a wave when entering it.
And this whale made a wave when jumping with a kraken. It is going to make one more when entering the waters.
The underwater were my safe bet. The wave would not affect me that much if I was underwater.
Yet, my fall was slow from the Anglerfish. If my arms and legs were working, I would have used them to hasten the fall. But just one working hand would do me no favor. Beside the lightning had already shown me the whale and the kraken falling into the surface.
I had no time to be under water.
And so a wave came once more.
It catapulted the Anglerfish and me once more, as if we were stones skipping above the surface.
Just that this time, I bounced on the surface head first many times.
I heard a crack from the first time.
My spine had broke.

Wrote this Chapter like 5 times. Some I took time to explain in more detail. Some I went a different approach. But I felt this one suited the best. Its filled with a lot of action and a hint of well desperation and madness. Aside from him surviving all the stuff a normal person would never survive. I have a reason. A good reason. But its to be explained later on. Very later on.
And the size of the Leviathan are humungous. Just absolute humungous. And in the one piece world I have in mind for the story. While they too play a part they are in no way the strongest. The world in my mind is cursed.
And most importantly I had designed and planned to write Volume 1 as some sort of cinematic experience to those who could imagine. That's why I went in such detail and all that. Sadly aside from some Chapter, my writing skills didn't match what I had in mind. So I will do a rewrite but later on. Volume 2 is going to be more action based. Sometime fast and sometime slow.
But lets be clear on one thing. All the torture the MC is getting is character development. he needs it for the cursed world up ahead. The Mc is rational but he is also mad.
And lastly, Volume 1 would have officially ended next Chapter but a fight scene was planned. Courtesy to Inevitable End. Praise the Fool. The fight scene is going to take around 10ish Chapter. So the official ending of Volume 1 is after the fight scene. And I am going to introduce a storyline character cause I feel Volume 1 is too original to be called a fanfic.
