Chapter 123: The Execution of Roger

Four days later. Marine Headquarters.

A fiery figure streaked across the air and descended above Marineford.

Sakazuki had rested for two days, fully recovered his strength, then used his ability to fly non-stop for two more days to return.

From the sky, the scene below was a mess.

Scaffolding covered the entire area. The plaza and port in front of Marineford were completely destroyed. Even the distant fortress bore deep sword marks, and countless soldiers were busy repairing the damage.

Sakazuki said coldly, "Damn pirates. One after another... completely lawless."

He landed atop the massive fortress.

Tap, tap, tap.

The crisp sound of leather shoes echoed as he retracted his ability and walked toward the Fleet Admiral’s office.

Just as he reached the door, a tired voice came from within. "Come in, Sakazuki."

Pushing open the door, Sakazuki stopped inside and greeted, "Fleet Admiral Kong."

Kong gave a nod. "Sit. Speak. Tell me everything. What’s the situation with the civilians on Kergashi Island? What’s this about Roger’s child? And you and Garp, two vice admirals fighting each other? Good thing this didn’t leak. Otherwise, it would’ve been a disgrace."

Sakazuki also nodded and sat on the nearby sofa.

"It started when we received news that someone had spotted Roger on Baterilla Island in the South Blue. We didn’t approach. Just sent people to gather information.

"We learned that Roger had a wife, and a child. Then he turned himself in and we passed the intel to the people of Kergashi Island.

"You already know the Kergashi Island tragedy. I left the decision to them, but somehow, the secret got out. That same day, we got word that the pirate Rayleigh was headed toward Reverse Mountain.

"I suspected he was going to the South Blue, so I rushed to Baterilla Island. Luckily, I arrived just in time and stopped him before he could act."

Kong frowned. "So that’s how it was. Did you take him down?"

Sakazuki smirked. "He’s dead. His body is on my warship. Bullet killed him. Once Roger is executed, we’ll announce Rayleigh’s death and Shiki’s capture at the same time. It will deliver a heavy blow to the pirates."

Kong’s expression eased and a faint smile appeared as he pictured the result.

"Not bad. Well done. But what happened with you and Garp?"

Sakazuki’s face darkened. "Fleet Admiral, are you sure he isn’t a spy for the pirates? I don’t know where he got his information, but he showed up at Baterilla Island and tried to protect Roger’s child.

"He’s been chasing that man for over a decade, yet didn’t manage to capture a single crewmate. And when it was finally time to end that cursed bloodline, he stood in the way.

"He even raised his hand against a fellow marine. What is he trying to do? I formally request an investigation into Vice Admiral Garp."

Kong’s face also turned grim. However, he knew Garp’s nature. The man was... impulsive. Not someone who would betray the Marines, but this situation still needed to be handled seriously.

"I understand. Once Garp returns, we’ll hold a meeting to address it. For now, the top priority is Roger’s execution in two days. Sengoku is already escorting him to Loguetown. As for your injuries... take a few days to rest."

Sakazuki shook his head. "No need. I want to lead a unit and return to the New World right away. Currently, we only have G1 stationed there. It’s too passive.

"With the Pirate King and his right-hand man dead, and Shiki captured, this is the best time to strike. We must seize Shiki’s territory quickly. Gaining a foothold in the New World is most important now."

Kong was tempted. "Are you confident?"

Sakazuki replied firmly, "Absolutely no problem. Even though the New World is a pirate’s paradise filled with powerful enemies, none of them can stop me now.

"And we don’t need to occupy too many islands. Stretching the frontlines too far would make management difficult. As long as we take control of the islands closest to the Red Line and establish them as Marine territory, that will be enough." freēnovelkiss.com

Kong responded, "If you’re sure, then go for it. Whatever support you need, just say the word."

Sakazuki said, "I’ll lead a surprise strike with Enel and Borsalino. It’ll be a good chance to toughen them up. Then we can have other vice admirals lead fleets to take over the islands one by one."

Kong agreed. "Alright. I’ll arrange the manpower immediately."

Marine Headquarters Plaza, Ruins.

Civilians, soldiers, and recruits were all busy at work.

Enel and Rosinante were hauling the shattered remains of the Monument of Heroes. The fierce battle had reduced the towering monument to countless pieces.

The former found a large chunk. With a grunt, he lifted it over his shoulder. The broken piece was over four meters tall. He turned to see Rosinante hugging a much smaller chunk and teased. "Rosinante, you’ve got to train harder. I’ll have Instructor Zephyr give you a little special training later. Yahahaha!"

Thinking of Zephyr’s hellish training regime, Rosinante’s face fell. "No way!!!"

Enel burst into laughter and said, "Then let’s make it a race! First one to deliver the stone wins!"

He charged off with the massive stone chunk several times his size as if it weighed nothing.

Rosinante scrambled to keep up, hugging his rock. "Enel, you’re cheating!"

"Yahahahaha!" Enel’s voice echoed in the distance.

Nearby, Borsalino wiped some imaginary sweat from his forehead and sighed. "Young folks sure have energy~"

He then turned to Kuzan. "So hot~ Kuzan-san, make some ice cream, will you?"

Kuzan was carrying a boulder and answered helplessly, "I’ve got the Ice Ice Fruit, not the Ice Cream Ice Cream Fruit."

Borsalino lifted another huge stone. "Ehh~ what a shame~"

Kuzan shook his head. "You really are something..."

From afar, Sakazuki approached, holding a new chart of the New World territories.

"Enel! Borsalino! With me!"

Boom!

A blazing red figure shot into the sky like a meteor.

Enel’s voice rang out clearly. "Got it!"

Crack!

A bolt of lightning struck and disappeared in an instant.

Borsalino set down the boulder, scratching his face. "What a hassle~"

He looked toward the others and pressed his palms together in front of his stomach. "Sacred Yata Mirror~"

A beam of light shot up like a mirror path, forming a brilliant trail in the sky. Then, he vanished into the light.

Two days later. East Blue, Loguetown.

Noon.

The streets on either side of the road leading to the execution platform were packed with people. Among them were civilians, pirates, bounty hunters, and newspaper reporters.

Countless soldiers maintained order.

"They’re here! They’re coming!"

"What?!"

"Where?!"

"The Pirate King!"

Two flag bearers led the procession, holding up the flag of the World Government. Behind them, several soldiers with long blades surrounded Roger, escorting him toward the execution platform.

The pirate walked at the center, shackled in iron chains. Yet he looked calm and composed, like a triumphant general. No one could guess what was going through his mind.

At the execution platform, soldiers stood in position as Roger stepped forward alone, ascending the platform one step at a time.

Within the crowd, hidden in corners, were Doflamingo, Shanks, Buggy and a young swordsman named Mihawk.

There was also the already-established Warlord Crocodile. The young pirate from the New World, Gecko Moria. And... the future leader of the Revolutionary Army, Monkey D. Dragon.

These figures, who would one day form the pillars of the world’s future powers, were all gathered here.

In the distance, a young Smoker, out of breath, ran toward the square, trailing behind his parents. He was terrified he’d miss it.

His eyes locked onto that lone figure.

As Roger stepped onto the execution platform, he casually sat down cross-legged, grinning widely.

"Alright, let’s get it over with."

The executioners raised their blade after the formal ritual.

Just then, a voice called out from the spectators:

"Hey! Pirate King! Where did you hide all the treasure you found?! You got it, didn’t you?! That legendary treasure! That great treasure—ONE PIECE!!!"

Roger suddenly burst out laughing.

"Wahahaha! My treasure? If you want it, you can have it."

On a distant rooftop, Sengoku’s heart dropped. A bad premonition surged through him as he roared, "Execute him! Now!!"

The executioners aimed their weapon, but Roger’s voice, filled with Haki, rang through the heavens:

"Go find it!!! I left everything this world has to offer... right there!"

Slash!

The blade pierced through Roger’s body in an instant. But at that very moment, the world erupted. Chasing after the unimaginable treasure he spoke of... that legendary, singular treasure called the "One Piece"...

People from all walks of life raised pirate flags and set sail.

Thus began the Great Pirate Era.

That very night, the lights at Marine Headquarters and the Holy Land Mariejois stayed on without rest.

But... none of that had anything to do with Sakazuki.

New World, over a certain island once controlled by Shiki.

A thousand meters above the ground, three figures and a small flying ark hovered in the sky.

Taking out a pen, Sakazuki marked a red X over the island on the sea chart.

"Alright. Let’s begin."

Borsalino let out a sigh. "This is the eleventh island already. Can’t we take a break, Vice Admiral Sakazuki~?"

Despite complaining, his fingers formed a delicate gesture as a golden glow lit up between them.

Sakazuki said, "Enough whining. Time is short and our mission’s heavy. Roger should’ve been executed by now and the news of Shiki’s capture will soon be made public. Before the pirates realize what’s happening, we need to seize the New World. That’s the top priority."

Borsalino replied with resignation. "Yes yes~ Yasakani Sacred Jewel."

Countless sparkling light bullets curved down toward the pirate base below and explosions echoed one after another.

"Enemy attack!"

"Move!"

"Where’s the enemy?!"

"Damn it!!!"

"Get to the bunkers!!!"

"Why are you panicking?! Someone go—"

High above, lightning clouds surged from the small Ark Maxim behind Enel.

Zzzzz—

A thundercloud sphere nearly a hundred meters wide formed as he guided it downward.

"Thunder Bomb."

In the terrified eyes of the pirates below, the sphere plummeted.

BOOM!!!

A massive explosion followed, lightning surging wildly. The shockwave tore through everything.

A crater hundreds of meters wide opened up and the entire pirate base was nearly wiped out.

Whoosh!

A burst of sword aura tore through the ruined ground as a battered figure cloaked in Armament Haki shot out, it was the pirate captain who had just shouted not to panic.

He shook the dust off his head, dazed.

"The sky...? Damn it, who are you?! You dare trespass on Lord Shiki’s terri—"

BOOM!

A giant Hellhound attack crashed down, slamming him to the ground. Despite his full-body Haki defense, he was crushed.

Sakazuki calmly spoke. "Next island."
