Only God-Chapter 736 - 590: The Lord Has Fallen, a Full 1000 Years
"What am I to do to return?
But for now, the most urgent matter is to figure out where I am."
Descending the hillside, Eden stepped into the town.
As he walked onto the main street, he noticed something.
Turning his head, Eden realized that the townspeople were all looking at him with a very unusual gaze, their lips twitching as if they wanted to say something but didn’t know what to say.
"What’s going on?"
While Eden was puzzled, he walked up to an alley where a person, who looked like a guard, rushed over.
"You, you... why are you wearing a monk’s robe of the fools? Who are you?!"
That guard held a spear, pointing the tip at Eden.
Fools?
Eden was full of confusion.
Was he talking about the True Believers? But... why would True Believers be called fools?
Also, the guard’s language... I didn’t recognize this language at all, yet now I could understand it.
"As you see, I am a Priest."
Eden was about to reply instinctively, then suddenly thought of something, and changed his words:
"I picked up these clothes."
Eden naturally spoke the local language as fluently as if it were his mother tongue.
"Really? No, you have to come with me to report to ’Harosha’."
The guard clearly doubted Eden’s words.
And this "Harosha" he mentioned seemed to mean "Subordinate Lawmaker," which sounded like the local lord.
Eden frowned, but there were too many eyes around, so he couldn’t make any sudden moves and followed the guard obediently.
The guard escorted him, passing through streets, seemingly taking him to the castle.
Eden carefully observed his surroundings, waiting for an opportunity. Soon, they passed through a deserted alley.
"Grave slave."
Ancient Language "Possession."
In an instant, the guard froze in place, completely unguarded, and his body immediately fell under Eden’s control.
Eden controlled the guard’s body and then slammed his head against the wall beside him. Instantly, a dizzy sensation surged up, and Eden quickly exited, returning to his own body.
The guard lay flat on the ground, unconscious.
"This place... must be a town of Heresy, a town of Heresy that calls True Believers fools."
While taking off the monk’s robe, Eden deduced in his mind.
Eden put on the guard’s undershirt and chanted the ancient language, using a Spiritual Shock to make the guard stay unconscious longer.
After that, he grabbed some mud, smeared it on his face, and messed up his hair. After this simple disguise, he cautiously walked out of the alley.
The most urgent matter was to figure out where this place was.
Eden thought so.
He stayed away from where the crowds gathered, going to the edge of the town, and then randomly chose a house and knocked to inquire.
Soon, a woman came out of the house,
"Who are you?"
"I’m a tradesman, just wondering what place this is and if there are any specialties?"
Eden asked.
The woman was not suspicious,
"This is Red Wind Town. If you ask, there’s not much notable here, just common items.
If there’s any specialty, perhaps moose hide is more abundant here. If you want some, you might need to ask ’Harosha’."
After saying this, the woman blessed:
"May the King of Kings protect you."
Eden was stunned for a moment, but he quickly recovered, blessing in a low voice,
"May you also be blessed."
After the woman closed the door, Eden looked up, puzzledly staring at the temple-like building on the hillside.
King of Kings...
It sounded very similar to "King of Kings."
But isn’t the King of Kings... God? It is clearly written in the "Book of Kings and Prophets" that He is the King of Kings.
If they also believe in God, then why do they call True Believers foolish?
Eden was somewhat baffled.
The townspeople here all seemed not to be True Believers and even held scorn and hostility towards them.
In the world, it is not uncommon for religious beliefs to disdain and be hostile to each other; people often march against the followers of one Divine being in the name of another. However, Eden’s confusion lay in that the townspeople here seemed to also believe in God.
"This place... how similar it is to that camp’s terrain. Could I have fallen into some trap, into an illusion?"
Eden speculated.
Then, he focused his gaze again on the temple-like building.
"God, forgive me, as I might momentarily utter the name of another god."
Eden clasped his hands together, praying for God’s forgiveness before walking towards the building.
...........
Slowly climbing the slope, the temple-like building drew closer.
At that moment, he inadvertently heard from others that this type of building was called a Scripture Institute.
Crossing the main gate, Eden first saw a half-meter-deep pit filled with clear water. The Believers approached, knelt down, dipped their fingers into the water, rubbed it on their foreheads and cheeks, then stood up, closed their eyes and walked deeper in, then opened their eyes and knelt before a giant painting.
After watching for a while, Eden did the same, using the water to moisten his forehead and cheeks, and when he approached and clearly saw the large painting, he was startled.
The painting depicted a thick, stretching Cloud Sea, with magnificent doors slightly open, revealing a crack from which infinite Spirit Light seemed to surge out, calling every lost soul.
There was no doubt, this was a religious painting.
Eden was astonished that this painting bore such similarity to the religious paintings of the True Religion. If this painting were placed in a True Believer’s home, no one would suspect it was a product of Heresy.
The only difference was that in the True Religion, the countless paintings depicting Heaven’s Gate usually included the figure of the Great Angel Solamus, while this painting had nothing but the Heavenly Gate.
"Believer, why are you standing here?"
Eden turned around to see a kind-looking old man wearing Priestly attire.
"No, it’s nothing."
Eden said quickly and moved aside.
The Priest did not leave immediately, filled with confusion and puzzlement.
He did not understand what was going on with the people here; they revered the King of Kings, so similar in pronunciation to "King of Kings," they also believed in a Heaven after death, not unlike the death concept of the True Believers, making him think they were just another sect within the True Religion. Yet, they called the True Believers foolish.
From Eden’s many years of experience as a Priest, he inferred that soon the Priestly-looking person would expound the Scriptures, and Eden decided to wait here a while to listen to their Scriptures.
As Eden expected, before long, as the Scripture Institute filled with people, that Priest began presiding over the ceremony and explained the Scriptures to the crowd.
Eden, along with other Believers, knelt on the ground, occasionally glancing up to observe the Clergy here.
The kind-faced old man was the only person standing in the entire gathering; he opened the Scriptures, speaking aloud for everyone:
"You must know,
this God has died, passed away,
you must understand,
the Lord who once ruled the world has decayed, and it has been a full thousand years."
Eden felt as though struck by lightning, instantly straightening up, he stared blankly for a moment then intently gazed at the old man preaching.
What is he... talking about?
Does he know what he’s saying?
Eden was dumbfounded; he had seen many arrogant Priests, but neither in the True Religion nor any other Heresy had anyone dared to claim that the Lord had decayed.
Is this man insane? He must be!
Eden stiffly surveyed the people around, strangely, no one seemed to think it amiss; the words of that Priest were as normal to them as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.
