Otherworld Advance Team-Chapter 41 - 37 The Ending
41: Chapter 37: The Ending
41 -37: The Ending
Just as the two were deeply engrossed in their duel, a gunshot suddenly echoed from the jungle.
Cheng Ziang’s body faltered, a bullet having pierced his left shoulder.
Zhuanzhu took this opportunity to thrust his knife, Cheng Ziang, devoid of strength to deflect the attack, could only divert it towards his left arm.
With a sickening “thud”, the sharp blade plunged into his left arm.
Cheng Ziang, enduring excruciating pain, hurled himself forward, head-butting Zhuanzhu and forcing him back.
Before he even had time to catch his breath, another gunshot rang out.
Wu Tairan’s bullet tore through his calf, robbing him of his combat abilities and leaving him to slowly crumble to the ground.
Cheng Ziang lay on the ground, gasping for breath, blood gushing from his wounds.
His face quickly turned pale.
In his semi-conscious state, he spotted the captain of the Hunter squad, Murong, holding a sniper rifle.
It was unmistakably Murong who fired that precise shot.
“Impressive.
Don’t you like to take the initiative?
Stand up and fight!” Zhuanzhu sneered, maliciously grinding his foot on Cheng Ziang’s wounds, causing him to wince in pain.
“Zhuanzhu!” Murong, unable to bear the sight, intervened.
“What?
He’s killed us multiple times.
Shouldn’t he be punished?” Zhuanzhu grabbed Cheng Ziang’s hair, lifted his head, and snarled with a sadistic grin.
“Right, trash?”
Cheng Ziang suddenly let out a mocking smile and, gazing at Zhuanzhu with a sense of relief, slowly spat out, “Idiot!”
“What did you say?” asked Zhuanzhu, still clutching Cheng Ziang’s hair and brandishing a cruel smile.
“Three…” Cheng Ziang slowly mouthed a word.
“Huh?”
“Two…”
“You bastard!”
“One…” On the verge of unconsciousness, Cheng Ziang’s voice grew increasingly weaker.
“!” Zhuanzhu seemed to realize something.
Murong, too, sensed that something was amiss.
A series of suppressed gunshots echoed through the dense forest.
Shangguan Jiu, the brunt of the attack, suddenly jerked, her body riddled with bullet holes that were rapidly bleeding.
Slowly, she collapsed to the ground with an expression of unwillingness.
“Jiu’er!” Wu Tairan roared, tossed his gun aside, and lunged towards her.
Another salvo of gunshots.
He collapsed onto the ground, never to rise again.
“It’s an ambush!” Zhuanzhu glowered at Cheng Ziang, then tossed him aside.
Just as he was about to take cover, several ice spikes shot out from the dense forest, piercing him and nailing him to a tree trunk.
“You guys…” Murong watched the scene unfold with a look of disbelief.
“Don’t move!” Suddenly, Luo’s cold voice sounded from behind him, the ominous muzzle pressed against the back of his skull.
“What a blunder!” Murong sighed, dropped his weapon, and raised his hands in surrender.
“Same to you!” said Luo just before pulling the trigger.
With a gunshot, Murong collapsed to the ground in defeat, marking the first victory for Zero Team in the final competition.
The rare victory invigorated Luo and his teammates, bolstering their confidence for the approaching third round.
The five team members, all smiles, exited the Virtual Battlefield for a brief rest.
On the other hand, this defeat forced the Hunter Squad to reconsider their tactics and analyze the strategic style of Luo’s Team.
“Our defeat was due to our negligence, and each one of us is responsible.” Murong stated coldly, causing the team to bow their heads involuntarily.
“Next match, we must adapt according to their setup.
Zhuanzhu!”
“Present!” Zhuanzhu replied.
“Your target for the next round is to ambush their team’s sniper, Baiyue.
She’s not only a sniper but also a mage.
An attack on her can disrupt the rhythm of their team,” Murong analyzed.
“Leave it to me!” Zhuanzhu nodded, his face contorting into a vicious smile.
“The three of you, we need to change tactics next round.
Zhongqi and Tairan, you two use support weapons for front-line advancement.
Jiu’er, focus on deploying shields to protect them.”
“Understood!” The trio nodded in agreement.
“Remember, our target is not their captain, Tangmo, but Luo!” Murong stated, looking at his team.
“Luo?” Shangguan Jiu asked in confusion.
“Yes, if I’m not mistaken, he’s the commander of their entire team.
If anything happens to him, the whole squad will be like a dragon without a leader and crumble into disarray,” Murong analyzed coolly.
“But…
isn’t the captain usually the commander?” asked Shangguan Jiu, still puzzled.
“Not sure, but they could be using Tangmo’s captain position to shield Luo, ensuring their command center avoids targeted attacks.”
“So you’re saying, if we take out Luo’er, their entire squad will crumble?” Wu Tairan asked.
“Yeah, at least based on our current observations!” After a moment of hesitation, Murong nodded in agreement.
“Well, let’s get to work then.
I’m itching to start!” Zhuanzhu licked his lips, revealing his thirst for bloodshed.
After the rest period, the third match began.
The game was still hostage protection, but the attackers and defenders swapped roles.
This time, Luo’er and his team would attack the hostages protected by Murong and his team.
This match would determine the final outcome and who would become the vanguard, so both parties took the results very seriously.
At the start of the match, Zhuanzhu, on the defensive side, hid in the jungle, secretly seeking the location of Luo’er and his teammates.
Murong took a high position, ready to aim at the core member Luo’er.
The other three set up two machine guns, waiting for Luo’er’s squad to show up while the hostages were pitifully left in a small wooden house, completely ignored.
As the attackers, Luo’er only dispersed Cheng Ziang and Baiyue.
He led two people forward slowly.
As soon as they walked out of the dense forest and saw the small wooden house in the distance, they heard rustling from nearby.
Zhuanzhu suddenly attacked, his blade aimed at Baiyue, who had already revealed her location.
Baiyue immediately dropped her sniper rifle and pulled out her handgun, firing at him.
A string of bullets all missed but effectively deterred Zhuanzhu, and soon he disappeared back into the jungle, nowhere to be seen.
“We should have let Cheng Ziang deal with him!” said Luo’er, who had arrived to support Baiyue, through gritted teeth.
As his words fell, there was a burst of gunfire from afar.
The two machine guns unleashed a flurry of firepower, and bullets poured down like rain, forcing everyone to instinctively seek cover.
Watching the slowly advancing trio, Luo’er could not help but ask, “What’s going on?
Aren’t they supposed to be protecting the hostages?
Why are they charging instead?”
“Counterattack?” asked Hu Daoke.
“Yes!” Luo’er nodded, and they both extended their bodies to open fire on the approaching trio.
“Da, da, da, da, da”
As the bullets flew towards them, Shangguan Jiu activated his shield.
Without exception, all bullets struck the shield and were bounced off by the tough shield, shattering the surrounding bushes and grass.
“Moumou!” Luo’er withdrew his weapon and shouted loudly to Tangmo.
“Understood!” Tangmo nodded, came forward, murmured spells, and two huge fireballs flew towards the trio instantly.
“Boom!” Before the fireballs arrived, all three found cover to hide and simultaneously, Shangguan Jiu activated his magic shield; it was ready right when the fireballs hit.
The huge fireballs smashed on the shield and were instantly silenced.
“Their mage!” Tangmo said, somewhat unwillingly.
On the other hand, Baiyue, just as she was about to construct her sniper rifle to take out their three-man team, Zhuanzhu came charging at her from the jungle once again.
She had no choice but to drop her sniper rifle again, pull out her handgun, and drive him away.
“Damn, Yue’er is constantly getting harassed.
Where the hell did Cheng Ziang go?” Hu Daoke couldn’t help but curse.
“Little Ke, you go back her up!” Luo’er commanded, raising his voice.
“Got it!” Hu Daoke nodded, picked up his machine gun, and ran towards Baiyue.
After the attack weakened, the opposing trio mounted another offensive.
Luo’er tried to activate his shield to resist but his shield wasn’t strong enough to withstand the close-range gunfire.
It was quickly shattered.
“Moumou, come here!” Luo’er shouted loudly.
“Yes!” Tangmo ran to Luo’er’s side and activated his shield.
He managed to withstand the dense barrage, with the shield in front scattering the bullets, shattering the flowers and trees.
Suddenly, they saw the opposing mage, Shangguan Jiu, stand up.
His magic wand pointed directly at them, and his mouth murmuring a spell.
“Watch out for magic!” Luo’er instinctively pulled Tangmo down, and the still calm Tangmo activated his magic shield.
A barrage of ice cones shot at them, but all were neutralized by Tangmo’s shield, vanishing without a trace.
Luo’er saw that the two gunners of the opposing trio were clumsily changing their magazines and felt that his chance had come.
He quickly changed to a new magazine and was about to fire at the trio.
At this point, Shangguan Jiu was guiding his ice cone magic and had no chance to activate the shield.
Luo’er felt he could take them all down at once.
“Bang” Suddenly, a dull gunshot echoed from the distance.
Luo’er’s body shook, and he realized in astonishment that a massive hole had been pierced through his chest.
The only thought in his mind was that it was a trap.
Clearly, the enemy aimed for him, prepared to do whatever it took, even sacrificing three people to take him down.
The magic shield couldn’t block physical bullets, and Luo’er was instantly pierced by a bullet shot from afar.
He experienced the feeling of death once again as his strength drained out with gushing blood, and he collapsed powerless onto the ground.
Before the darkness obscured his vision, he saw the one sight he had been unwilling to witness.
With his death, the squad lost their commanding core.
The entire squad immediately fell into chaos.
The trio gained the upper hand again, and his teammates tried to fight back.
But the precise gunshots echoed from afar, quickly taking them down one by one.
“Is it…
over?” was Luo’er’s only regret as he closed his eyes for the final time.
