Chapter 358: Chapter 339: He’s Not My Dad

Sienna Thornton finished her accusation, leaned back against the sofa with her eyes closed, and slapped her forehead, both angry and helpless.

Simon Forrester took a moment to process her information-laden words, then picked out the key point and asked, "Why was the case against Jane Jefferson dismissed?"

"Insufficient evidence."

"Is there no way to deal with her?"

Sienna Thornton shook her head, "She’s a lawyer herself, how could she leave any incriminating evidence?"

Simon Forrester stood up and went to the desk to get his phone.

Sienna Thornton heard him ask Thomas Reed on the phone where Jane Jefferson was, whether she was in Britione. She didn’t know what Thomas Reed said, but then heard Simon shout, "You’d better bring that woman back to Britione immediately, or I’ll cut off all investments!"

Sienna Thornton didn’t open her eyes. She waited until he hung up the phone before asking, "Where is Jane Jefferson?"

"Apparently still in the country. Thomas Reed said they’ve broken up and he doesn’t want to deal with her anymore."

Sienna Thornton: "..."

She was speechless for a moment, suddenly opened her eyes, sat up straight, looking displeased.

Simon Forrester sat down next to her with a serious expression: "No, I need to consult with Dean Thorne about this tomorrow."

Upon hearing this, Sienna Thornton’s face darkened even more: "Even if Dean Thorne had a way, he wouldn’t bother with such trivial matters... He’s not my father!"

Simon Forrester: "..."

He actually is your father!

Simon Forrester held back those words, swallowed them after a while, and grasped her hand, saying, "It’s not safe without security at the law firm. I’ll call Nolan Kramer later to send a few security personnel over tomorrow. From tomorrow, I’ll be picking you up and dropping you off from work."

Sienna Thornton didn’t oppose it. She was actually a bit afraid that Jane Jefferson might come to cause trouble again.

Though it was not certain that Jane would get physical, being cautious was always a good idea.

The next day, Simon Forrester drove Sienna Thornton to work at the law firm.

Sienna Thornton still had overtime scheduled for the evening, so he simply arranged to have dinner with Quentin Thorne, planning to pick Sienna up from work after their meal.

At six thirty, he met Quentin Thorne in a private room at "The Imperial Court Club."

He explained the purpose of his visit and handed Quentin Thorne a copy of the case file on Jane Jefferson.

Quentin Thorne merely accepted the case file without opening it: "I’ve been following this case all along, I’ll take the file for now."

Which made sense, since Quentin Thorne even knew about the secret incident of Simon Forrester getting injured in The Northeast. There was no way he wouldn’t be keeping an eye on a case directly involving Sienna Thornton.

He had kept it hidden, so even though Simon Forrester had visited the Thorne family just a couple of days ago, Quentin didn’t mention the matter at all.

This left Simon Forrester somewhat uneasy: "Since you already know, please try to find a solution."

"Don’t worry."

In addition to this issue, Quentin Thorne also mentioned plans to publicly announce his relationship with Sienna Thornton a week before the New Year holiday. By then, the law firm would be on break, so even if it affected Sienna’s emotions, it wouldn’t impact her work.

He also said that on the eve of the New Year, he planned to take Sienna Thornton back to the Thorne family’s ancestral home for a family reunion dinner, letting the Thorne family members know her identity. As for the matters of changing her surname and household registration, they would wait until they returned to the Thorne family to see if Sienna was willing to proceed.

Simon Forrester felt this arrangement was quite decent, understated but ceremonious.

This year’s Lunar New Year falls in early February, so there’s still a month to go.

Simon Forrester suggested arranging for Sienna Thornton and Quentin Thorne to meet in a few days to foster their relationship, to prevent any awkwardness when they reconcile a month later.

Quentin Thorne agreed.

Just as Simon Forrester was about to suggest arranging their father-daughter meeting this weekend, his phone rang.

It was a local unknown number.

Simon Forrester answered it, and after a moment, his face suddenly changed dramatically, blurting out, "I’m coming over right now!"

Quentin Thorne asked, "What happened?"

"Candy was taken by the police!" Simon Forrester stood up, hurriedly putting on his coat, "I have to go immediately!"

Quentin Thorne was shocked too, grabbing his coat and following him out of the private room, "Which police station? How long has she been taken away?"

Simon Forrester walked quickly to the elevator, his face pale, his voice trembling, "Half an hour ago, taken away by detectives from the West District Precinct."

As he said this, they entered the elevator.

Quentin Thorne immediately called his secretary, his voice calm: "My eldest daughter was taken away by the West District Criminal Investigation Division half an hour ago, check it out! Quickly!"

The tone of that last word still betrayed his emotions.

After exiting the elevator, Quentin Thorne and Simon Forrester each got into their cars and headed to the West District Criminal Investigation Division, one after the other.

On the way, Simon Forrester kept calling Sienna Thornton’s phone, but it was always connected with no answer. He then called Aurora Buckley again and learned that Sienna Thornton was taken away on murder suspicion.

At that moment, Simon Forrester felt a heavy weight press down on his head and the back of his neck. It was as if the sky were falling, suffocating him. His limbs trembled violently, yet he told himself to stay strong.

Upon getting out of the car, he rushed straight into the division’s lobby, not caring that Quentin Thorne hadn’t kept up.

Aurora Buckley and Rochelle Linwood stood in the lobby. Seeing Simon Forrester enter, they hurried over to him.

"Where’s Sienna? Where is she now?" Simon Forrester’s heart was pounding like never before, his limbs and voice trembling, "Did they say who it involved?"

Aurora Buckley, her eyes red, shook her head, "Rhonda went inside to get information."

It was past eight in the evening, and though people were coming in and out of the Criminal Investigation Division’s lobby, there was no one to ask about Sienna Thornton’s whereabouts.

Simon’s eyes reddened with urgency. He took out his phone, about to call Tobias Blackwood, when Quentin Thorne unexpectedly called instead.

Only then did he realize Quentin Thorne hadn’t come in, and slightly annoyed, he answered, loudly asking, "Where are you?"

On the other end, Quentin Thorne spoke calmly and clearly: "The deceased was named Nina Sinclair, found dead at eleven fifteen last night, in her own Porsche Cayenne on West Suburb Avenue. The cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning, with the time of death estimated between ten thirty and ten forty. Witnesses testified they saw her in a heated argument with Annie outside Cognitas Law last night around nine. Police now have outdoor surveillance from Cognitas Law and some road surveillance footage proving Annie followed the deceased’s car to West Suburb Avenue after nine thirty. Furthermore, the deceased’s car door handles and window had Annie’s fingerprints, and inside the car, there was a Buddhist prayer bead bracelet with Annie’s fingerprints on it..."

"Impossible!" Simon Forrester’s voice was firm, "Come here and say it in person!"

Quentin Thorne’s tone was serious: "If I show up, this case will only get more complicated. I’ve already smoothed things over; they won’t give Annie a hard time. Don’t worry."

Hearing this, Simon finally felt somewhat relieved.

After hanging up, he turned to call Tobias Blackwood, briefly updating him on the situation he heard from Quentin Thorne. Tobias said he’d come over immediately.

After making all necessary arrangements, Simon Forrester sat blankly in the investigation division’s hall, waiting for Rhonda Wagner to come out with information, waiting for news from Quentin Thorne, waiting for Tobias Blackwood to arrive and take him in to see Sienna Thornton...
