Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 180: Burning Joss Paper for You Every Year
Mia, dressed in tight pants and black boots, walked out of the café without looking back.
Free and unrestrained, as radiant as the morning sun.
When he first met her, the Mia who left him, at this moment, she had never changed.
To Josiah Sutton, he hardly caused a ripple in her heart.
The reunion of Josiah Sutton and Mia was dramatic and entertaining, while Julian Ford enjoyed the show, his coffee was already finished.
Looking up and seeing his good friend’s face dark as coal, Julian Ford’s lips faintly moved, slowly uttering two words:
"Stubborn."
Josiah Sutton, feeling irritable, glared at him, "Not as stubborn as you."
Julian Ford nodded, "Indeed."
Josiah Sutton: "..."
Just where is this stubbornness coming from; it’s an unruly topic again.
Josiah Sutton came to persuade, yet showed firsthand what it means to easily advise others while failing miserably himself.
He directly declared it hopeless.
Of course, Josiah himself wasn’t in the mood anymore.
After all, he was having a tough time too, why should Julian Ford have any better days?
"As for you and Scarlett, I’m not interfering anymore, do whatever you want." Josiah scoffed coldly, "When you’re dead, I’ll burn paper money for you annually, and send congratulations, letting you know Scarlett has a wonderful family and children!"
Julian Ford looked at him indifferently, while standing up, took out his phone, "You won’t get that chance."
The phrase "one’s poison, another’s honey" applies to anyone.
Julian Ford called Aaron Carson, asking him to change the ticket back to Capitoline tomorrow to the earliest flight today.
Josiah Sutton: "Weren’t you planning to check out your uncle’s company tomorrow?"
Julian Ford: "I miss my girlfriend, going back to meet her."
Josiah Sutton: "..."
As they walked out of the café together, Julian Ford glanced at a motorcycle speeding away from the street corner and said in a calm voice, "Not chasing it?"
Josiah Sutton, frustrated, said, "I’m the one who’s been dumped, why should I chase her?"
Again waiting to be told I’m licking the plate clean?
Julian Ford nodded, "True, you haven’t shown any action in three years."
"..."
Josiah Sutton: "I sincerely wish you and Scarlett would be separated by heavens and earth."
Just as he finished speaking, Julian Ford’s phone suddenly rang.
The caller ID showed Skyler Miller.
Julian Ford answered the call.
Josiah Sutton, feeling annoyed, took a cigarette and lit it up. Just as he glanced at Julian Ford, he saw that Julian’s face, which had been improving, now looked even worse than his own earlier.
Just about to tease him that maybe the tables have turned and he’s been dumped too.
But Julian Ford, with an icy demeanor, had already turned around and drove away swiftly.
...
Capitoline.
Returning home at night, Chloe Grant pondered Skyler Miller’s words from the afternoon and asked Penelope Shaw, "Mom, have you contacted Scarlett?"
Penelope Shaw, puzzled, looked at her, "Do you have something for her? Why not contact her yourself?"
Chloe Grant: "I hate her, don’t have a good relationship with her, I won’t be the one to call her proactively."
Penelope Shaw looked at her speechlessly, "Why are you insisting on this? Scarlett has a personality much like her father’s; even if you turn into a balloon of anger, she won’t be affected."
Chloe Grant reached out, "Then give me your phone."
Unsure of what her daughter was up to, Penelope Shaw nonetheless handed her phone over to Chloe Grant.
Chloe Grant found Scarlett’s number and dialed.
Sure enough, only the message of the phone being off was heard.
Chloe Grant had disliked Scarlett since childhood, hated how she could obtain all the love without lifting a finger.
Yet as the saying goes.
Deep hatred turns to favor.
This saying also applies to those she hates.
Chloe Grant had similar thoughts to Skyler Miller; although Scarlett is disliked, she wouldn’t disappear without good reason, thus concerns arise that something might have happened.
Thinking a bit more, Chloe Grant walked to the balcony and dialed Ryan Ford’s number.
On the other end, Ryan Ford’s lazy and cold voice came through, "Speak."
Chloe Grant: "I have something to tell you, but first you must promise me a reward for it."
Ryan Ford chuckled, "You certainly have confidence that I would agree with you."
Chloe Grant: "Of course, because it concerns Scarlett."
"What happened to Scarlett?"
Ryan Ford’s voice immediately became serious, no longer lazy or indifferent.
On the call, Chloe Grant’s cold voice replied, "Transfer ten thousand to me first, then I’ll tell you."
Chloe Grant said this somewhat nervously.
Since if Ryan Ford quickly reacted, he might hang up and directly contact Scarlett, he would quickly realize something was wrong. Moreover, if it turned out to be a false alarm, her little scheme would be foiled.
She was gambling for a small gain.
And this gamble turned out to be correct.
Because now, to Ryan Ford, whether Scarlett is in trouble also affects his brother’s mood and future.
He was recently investigating Benjamin Shaw’s past, as per Julian Ford’s instructions.
The more he investigated, the more he realized Benjamin Shaw was genuinely a good person, especially towards Scarlett. Meanwhile, the past actions that led to Benjamin’s bankruptcy due to Serena made Ryan Ford increasingly regretful.
Being hated by Scarlett was not an issue in itself.
But Ryan’s brother was fully aware of what transpired.
Though Julian Ford didn’t do anything, standing idly by and watching Scarlett’s family fall into such a situation was in itself an act of tacit consent.
If they were still strangers, it would be understandable to let bygones be bygones.
However, the emotions were so deep now, bringing up such matters again couldn’t simply be brushed off by saying they were initially unrelated, and Julian Ford had no obligation to intervene.
Most importantly, although Ryan Ford hadn’t directly harmed Benjamin Shaw’s life, who knew whether Benjamin’s death might indirectly relate to the bankruptcy.
If it did, then this issue wouldn’t be easily resolved.
Ryan Ford was overwhelmed with thoughts and didn’t deliberate much on it as Chloe Grant previously provided true information about Scarlett, thus he ultimately transferred five thousand to her.
"The remaining five thousand depends on what you say."
Chloe Grant: "Scarlett is missing."
Ryan Ford furrowed his brows, "What?"
"She’s been absent from work all day; phone calls go unanswered, no one can reach her." Chloe replied honestly, "That’s all I know. You should start searching for her. Once you’ve found her, don’t forget to transfer the remaining five thousand to me."
After saying her piece, Chloe Grant hung up.
Her primary concern was the money; the rest she wasn’t interested in managing.
Ryan Ford, after ending the call, contacted Julian Ford. The latter had just landed at Capitoline Airport, his voice cold, filled with anger and urgency:
"Go find Jasper Spencer now, tell him that if Liam Spencer is not found, generations of political resources accumulated by the Spencer Family will be emptied!"
Before boarding in Cloud Harbor, Julian Ford, unable to reach Scarlett by phone, quickly reported to the police.
At that time, the officer answering the call hesitated, "Scarlett?"
This hesitation made Julian Ford immediately sense something was wrong. After asking a few more questions, he quickly learned about the incident where Scarlett’s car was vandalized days prior and Liam’s release.
