Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 188: The Unlucky Busybody
The smile froze in the sudden confession.
The fireworks in her heart soared and blossomed, leaving glistening pearls at the corner of her eyes.
Even Scarlett Shaw never thought there would be a day when Julian Ford would say he loves her.
There was no romantic backdrop, nor any events triggering hormones.
Julian’s "I love you" was natural and calm, carrying his unique style, yet making Scarlett’s heart beat fiercely.
Of course, what Scarlett could not see was that at this moment, Julian’s heart was as sincere and fervent as hers.
Afraid that tears from the corner of her eyes would break free, she hurriedly sniffed and said:
"I wasn’t done talking yet. Back then, there was another unfortunate soul trapped in the mountains like me. Later, I fainted, and it seems that unlucky guy took the trouble to send me to the hospital."
"Troublesome? Unlucky guy?"
Although extremely dissatisfied with these words, Julian showed no change in expression and merely looked at her calmly and said:
"Someone saved your life, and that’s how you refer to your savior?"
Scarlett knew she was being unreasonable and said embarrassedly:
"You’re my boyfriend. I’m only teasing you, not others."
"If that unlucky guy ever finds me to ask for compensation, I’d certainly be grateful to him. If it wasn’t for him, how could I still be alive today and have such a great boyfriend?"
Julian raised an eyebrow and said, "Yet you said he was troublesome."
"It’s just that even after being saved back then, my days were still suffering, not happy at all."
Scarlett sighed.
"People tend to romanticize paths they haven’t taken. Though I backed out, I sometimes think if I had just died in the wilderness, maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad."
She’s always been someone who looks forward, so most of the time, even when mentioning those solitary days, she tends to cover the past embarrassment with the lightest tone.
At this moment, choosing to tell Julian everything was not to evoke sympathy.
She simply wanted to tell him:
"Only after knowing you did I realize that my life can truly be exciting and beautiful. I even think the days I’ve endured were worth it. So—"
Scarlett gazes at Julian.
"Julian, you will be alright, even if just for my life to be more splendid, okay?"
Her every word was so sincere it moved one deeply.
Julian grasped her chin, lowering his head to kiss her lips, his voice deep, "Weren’t you just claiming how much you truly liked Ryan Ford before?"
This petty man...
"I did like him, but..."
It’s different.
Only when meeting the truly right person does one feel able to reveal oneself completely and fearlessly.
This man always has the ability to see through people’s hearts. Since she had nowhere to hide, those wayward, selfish little thoughts in her heart seemed trivial to conceal and thus became more reckless. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
The dark side of herself, the cowardly side, the selfish side.
The side even she wouldn’t accept.
Yet little by little, alongside him, she returned to her true self.
Scarlett said no more, but Julian seemed to understand completely.
He deepened the gentle kiss, for the first time in his life feeling a sense of gratitude. Thankfully, he was in a good mood that day, merely observing her life but ultimately carried her out of the forest.
Of course, as far as Julian was concerned, he had never intended to tell Scarlett about this, neither now nor in the future.
In his view, the feelings between them didn’t need the ’life-saving grace’ buff.
This one year was sentimentally deep enough.
Moreover—
The doorbell rang at that moment, and on the screen was the alluringly handsome face of Ryan Ford.
Julian frowned, had it not been for his brother’s "good deeds," he wouldn’t feel such sudden irritation.
Ryan paused slightly upon seeing Scarlett upon entering, but quickly returned to his usual expression and didn’t say a word, only glanced at Julian.
"If it’s about Benjamin Shaw’s matter, you can say it directly, Scarlett has the right to know."
Julian noticed Ryan’s hesitation and turned his gaze to Scarlett:
"You’re not that fragile of a person, right? Nothing’s unacceptable."
Scarlett chuckled lightly, "Who said that? I’m glass-hearted, sensitive-skinned, the 21st century’s Ava Adler, utterly fragile!"
Ryan was amused and teased, "Scarlett, why rhyme it up? Why not switch careers and become an underground rapper, I’ll be your first investor!"
Scarlett glared at him fiercely.
Nonsense, her first investor would have to be his brother.
The glare she gave to Ryan was absolute disdain, but in Julian’s eyes, it just seemed unsettling, "If sensitive, go to the room, don’t listen."
Scarlett: "..."
Julian then coldly told Ryan, "Hurry up and say it, and get lost afterward."
Ryan: "..."
Ryan felt his brother was simply jealous for no reason, indiscriminately lashing out at people.
But he was the guilty one now, feeling guilty, afraid to retort, so he obediently looked at Scarlett and said:
"Scarlett, you’re aware that after your father’s body was found, a lot of drugs were detected during the examination, right?"
Scarlett’s heart leaped, she unconsciously tightened her lips, "Yes."
Ryan rubbed his chin, "Concluding it as suicide under such circumstances is too strange."
Scarlett had always had this doubt.
At that time, she didn’t even know the origins and investigation results of those things; it was hastily concluded.
Scarlett voiced this doubt.
Ryan said, "There’s more that’s odd."
Scarlett paused, "There’s more?"
"Uncle has been a criminal informant for the police for many years. Back then, those who were in business with such accomplishments had wide social resources and could access some gray areas, which isn’t surprising. But fundamentally, he was just a businessman, so he could only provide minor criminal intel."
It’s easy to say, but for ordinary people overwhelmed with their affairs, who would go out of their way to manage such thankless tasks?
Taking up time and energy is one thing, but if retaliated against, wouldn’t it be a loss?
"I find it strange, given Uncle’s long-standing dealings with the police, yet when he’s in trouble, they hastily conclude it as suicide, which doesn’t add up logically!"
That’s where Ryan found it the most bizarre.
However, during his explanation, Scarlett’s face unknowingly grew solemn, remaining silent for a long time.
Not only because she was unaware of these matters her father was involved in, but most importantly, she recalled her mother used to be a police officer.
Her intuition told her that Benjamin Shaw’s actions must be related to her mother.
