Overpowered Resident Doctor-Chapter 51: Miraculous Recovery
Wang Chuan didn’t get the second surprise he was hoping for.
He only saw Yan Feifan once again display his exquisite and precise Sword Technique, peeling away the layer of keloid scar tissue from the eyelid.
Then, Yan Feifan took the small piece of skin harvested from behind Liu Yan’s ear and fitted it perfectly into the gap.
As for the suturing, Yan Feifan performed at his usual high standard—and even seemed to surpass it.
In fact, he was more than just a little better.
This made Wang Chuan realize something.
This kid, Yan Feifan, was a classic clutch performer. The more official the occasion, the more critical the moment, the more brilliantly he performed.
Wang Chuan was exceptionally pleased by this.
A guy like that could be relied upon. He wouldn’t drop the ball when things got important or urgent.
This discovery was better than any big surprise.
Now, when Wang Chuan looked at Yan Feifan, it was like a mother-in-law sizing up her future son-in-law—the more he looked, the more he liked what he saw. His admiration was plain to see.
Regarding the eyelid scar, Wang Chuan had wondered before.
’Would this kid, Yan Feifan, take a shortcut and just make a couple of cuts on Liu Yan’s right eyelid to match?’
But now, the kid had tackled the problem head-on, using his absolute skill to resolve the eyelid scar perfectly.
This approach and attitude toward problem-solving also pleased Wang Chuan...
Once the small skin graft on the eyelid was sutured, Yan Feifan’s role as lead surgeon was complete. The subsequent anti-inflammatory treatment and bandaging of the wound should have been the surgical assistant’s job.
But how could Yan Feifan dare let the esteemed Mr. Wang handle such cleanup tasks? He had to do it himself.
After bandaging the wound, Yan Feifan and Jio Xin carefully moved Liu Yan onto a transport gurney.
At that moment, he glanced up at the clock.
10:39 p.m.
Still insisting on handling it himself, Yan Feifan, accompanied by Wang Chuan, wheeled Liu Yan out of the operating room and all the way to the family waiting area.
He announced to Mrs. Xia and Liu Sheng, who were hurrying over, "The surgery went very smoothly!"
"Liu Yan is still under anesthesia. She should wake up in about fifteen to thirty minutes."
"When she does, I’ll run another check. If everything is fine, she can go home."
"Or she can stay in the observation room overnight and leave tomorrow."
Mrs. Xia glanced at Wang Chuan first. Seeing his composed expression, she said to Liu Sheng, "It’s so late. Why don’t you stay here with Liu Yan for the night?"
"The dorm is so dirty and messy. It would be terrible if the wound got infected..."
At 10:58 p.m., Liu Yan woke up.
Yan Feifan examined her and found nothing abnormal. He gave a few instructions to the night-shift nurse on duty and left the hospital.
As for Wang Chuan, Luo Zhen, and Jio Xin, they had packed up and left together right after the surgery.
What Yan Feifan didn’t know was that Jio Xin had split off from Wang Chuan and Luo Zhen as soon as they left the emergency department.
Pulling a case of surgical instruments behind her, she walked back toward the plastic surgery center, took out her phone, and made a call.
"Yan Feifan is much more capable than we anticipated. He’s already strong enough to be your rival."
"And the Director’s regard for him is far greater than we predicted..."
By the time Yan Feifan got back to his apartment at Zuimo Court, it was already half past eleven.
He unlocked the door with his fingerprint and stepped out of the entryway.
He saw two figures with messy hair, wearing loose plaid pajamas and wrapped in thin blankets, sit up on the sofa.
"Mr. Yan, you’re back," they chimed.
Yan Feifan turned off the TV first. He saw that both Tian Yu and Ye Lin were bleary-eyed and yawning nonstop.
"Xiaoyu, go sleep in my sister’s room."
He told Tian Yu, then turned to Ye Lin and said, "Thanks for staying to look after Xiaoyu." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"It’s so late. Are you still planning on going home?"
Ye Lin rubbed her face to wake herself up. "I already told my family I was covering a late shift for a coworker tonight."
Yan Feifan let out a soft "Oh." "Then you should sleep in my sister’s room, too. The bed is plenty big enough for both you and Xiaoyu."
Tian Yu got off the sofa, yawned, and asked worriedly, "Mr. Yan, you’re back so late. You must be tired and hungry."
"There are still some dumplings in the fridge. Should I make you a bowl?"
Yan Feifan waved a hand dismissively. "Don’t worry about it. I’m not hungry. I’ll just wash up and go straight to bed."
Tian Yu said, "Oh," then suddenly giggled. "Mr. Yan, Linlin has no sense of direction, either. She led me in circles around the complex a few times before we finally found Building 9."
"Linlin also said there are physiological reasons why we girls have no sense of direction, so it’s not our fault."
"Mr. Yan, is that true?"
Yan Feifan glanced at a slightly embarrassed Ye Lin and nodded. "You could say that."
He then launched into an explanation: "Men generally use the hippocampus to obtain spatial information, while women rely more on representations in the cerebral cortex to determine their direction."
"This difference means men tend to use geometric methods for orientation, while women tend to use landmarks."
"Also..."
Yan Feifan continued to explain, "The body’s inner ear otoliths are related to our sense of direction, and the otoliths in most men are much larger than in women."
"Therefore, most men have a stronger sense of direction than women."
He added, "Actually, a sense of direction can be trained."
"It’s like swimming. With constant practice and reflection, your sense of direction will gradually improve."
Tian Yu said with an adoring look, "Mr. Yan, you know so much. You’re amazing!"
Yan Feifan waved his hand, shooing them away. "Enough chatter. Go to sleep..."
The next morning, Yan Feifan was up at six o’clock sharp, as usual.
After getting ready, he noticed there wasn’t a sound from the master bedroom. He left a hundred yuan and a note on the coffee table, telling Tian Yu and Ye Lin to get their own breakfast, and then headed out...
When Yan Feifan arrived at the emergency department’s observation room, he saw Liu Yan propped up on the hospital bed with an anti-inflammatory drip in her arm, her right eye staring blankly.
"Where’s your cousin?"
"He went out to get breakfast."
Liu Yan replied, then added in a quiet voice, "Mr. Yan, the pain was so bad last night I couldn’t sleep a wink."
Yan Feifan removed the bandages on her left face and checked the incision. "No signs of inflammation. That’s good."
"You’ll be able to sleep tonight."
Liu Yan asked happily, "Does that mean the incision won’t hurt tonight?"
"It will hurt. For at least another two or three days."
Yan Feifan mercilessly shattered her illusion. "Tonight, your exhaustion will overpower the pain, so you’ll be able to sleep."
"In a bit, I’ll change your dressing, and then you can go home."
"For the next three days, remember to go to a clinic near your place once a day to get an anti-inflammatory drip and have the dressing changed."
"On the seventh day, come back here for a follow-up with me..."
After giving his instructions, Yan Feifan left the observation room. He was surprised to see a man walking into the emergency lobby, holding a brocade banner with both hands.
Embroidered on the banner in glittering gold thread were six large words: "A Living Hua Tuo, a Miraculous Recovery!"
When Yan Feifan saw that the man was Sun Wei, he froze for a moment.
’This banner... it can’t be for me, can it?’
Sun Wei had indeed come early in the morning to present Yan Feifan with the banner.
Yesterday, Qee Sheng had told him the whole story.
His physical recovery over the past few days had convinced Sun Wei to wholeheartedly accept the medical team’s treatment plan.
When he learned the true reason for his weight loss, Sun Wei was stunned, but also filled with a mix of complex emotions.
They had completed the discharge procedures yesterday and had two banners rush-made: one for Mr. Qee and one for Yan Feifan.
Early this morning, they had made a special trip to deliver them before heading home.
"Mr. Yan, thank you, thank you so much!"
Sun Wei enthusiastically grabbed Yan Feifan’s hand, his face full of gratitude. "Mr. Qee said that you were the one who diagnosed me, and that you were the one who came up with the treatment plan—treating a fake illness as if it were real."
"I never would have guessed my weight loss was caused by paranoia."
"Mr. Yan, look! I’ve already gained back over three kilograms in just a few days."
Looking at Sun Wei, whose complexion was much healthier, Yan Feifan said modestly, "It was really a team effort."
He then added a reminder, "Being overweight isn’t good for your physical or mental health. You should try to keep your weight in check."
Sun Wei nodded emphatically. "That’s what Mr. Qee told me, too."
He said with some lingering fear, "Mr. Yan, I’m just going to treat this whole ordeal of the last few months as a very expensive weight loss program."
"I’ll be sure to cherish the hard-won results..."
After seeing Sun Wei and his family out of the emergency lobby, Yan Feifan examined the heavy banner in his hands, filled with delight.
’This was the first banner he had ever received. It was a huge deal...’
"It’s just one banner. What’s there to be so pleased about? I’ve got so many I can’t even fit them in one room."
Yan Feifan turned to see Mr. Wang approaching. He began rolling up the banner and chuckled. "It’s my first one, so I can’t help but be a little excited."
Wang Chuan scoffed lightly, then changed the subject. "The center is planning to contact the orphanage to perform pro bono plastic surgery for children with facial deformities."
"And you... will be the lead surgeon..."
