Chapter 96: Chapter 96: You’re Lucky

Yan Feifan was woken by a rumbling stomach. He glanced at the clock on his nightstand; it was just past ten in the morning.

After performing two surgeries back-to-back last night, Yan Feifan had come home and collapsed into bed. He hadn’t expected to wake up hungry after only three or four hours of sleep.

He got up, used the restroom, and washed up, which only made him feel hungrier.

He was home alone and couldn’t be bothered to cook, so he grabbed an apple and headed out the door while eating it.

After grabbing a meal at a Shaxian Snacks near his residential complex—one of the country’s three major fast-food chains—Yan Feifan rushed to the Affiliated Hospital.

Today was Sunday, which was supposed to be his day off.

But having performed two surgeries last night, Yan Feifan needed to check on his patients’ post-op conditions and complete his surgical reports...

When he arrived at the plastic surgery center, he noticed a number of people milling about outside the building, holding phones or cameras and snapping pictures of everything.

Inside the first-floor lobby, Yan Feifan asked a staff member and found out what was going on.

They were well-informed entertainment reporters or social media influencers who knew that the A-list male celebrity, Jin Bo, had been in an accident last night and was admitted to the plastic surgery center.

These people had gathered here early, hoping to get some video or pictures of Jin Bo.

’So dedicated!’

Yan Feifan muttered to himself, went to the director’s office, and changed into the white coat he kept there...

As Yan Feifan stepped out of the elevator on the sixth floor of the plastic surgery center, he heard a soul-shattering cry echoing through the hallway.

"I’m disfigured! My life is over! WAAAH..."

"It’s hopeless... WAAAH..."

Yan Feifan arrived at Ward 11 to see Zhao Xiaoting, lying in the bed by the window, still wailing at the top of her lungs.

The other bed in the room was empty.

"Tears contain salt. If they get into your wounds, not only will it hurt more, but it will also slow down the healing process and leave noticeable scars."

Yan Feifan’s words were highly effective; the crying stopped abruptly.

He then saw Zhao Xiaoting frantically grab a tissue from the nightstand to wipe her eyes.

Yan Feifan walked over to Zhao Xiaoting’s bed, removed the pieces of medical tape from her face one by one, and inspected her wounds.

"The incisions are healing quite well. The chance of disfigurement is very small. Why were you crying so loudly?"

Zhao Xiaoting sniffled, her voice thick with tears. "My face was full of glass shards... it was covered in wounds and blood..."

"I thought it was a nightmare, but the pain in my face told me it was all too real."

"Then my classmate told me that a very, very young resident operated on me..."

"Waaah, doesn’t that mean I’m going to be disfigured?"

"Waaah..."

She started wailing again.

Yan Feifan noticed that Zhao Xiaoting’s eyes were wide open. Though tears welled up, they never spilled over. He couldn’t help but feel a little impressed.

"Stop wailing. As long as you focus on recovering and take good care of it, I guarantee you won’t be disfigured."

Zhao Xiaoting wiped her eyes and sat up, asking expectantly, "How can you guarantee it? What’s your guarantee?"

"How?"

Yan Feifan said with great confidence, "My word is my guarantee. I’m the one who performed your surgery."

Zhao Xiaoting stared at Yan Feifan, her mouth falling open wider and wider...

Seeing that she was about to start wailing again, Yan Feifan got worried and quickly tried to soothe her. "Don’t start wailing, just listen to me. I may look young, but I’m very skilled."

Zhao Xiaoting didn’t believe him at all, sobbing, "You’re just a resident, not even an attending physician. How skilled can you be?"

Resigned, Yan Feifan took out his phone and opened a photo album.

Inside were before-and-after recovery photos of Liu Yan, Mrs. Xia, and two other scar removal patients he had operated on.

"The proof is right here. These are a few patients I operated on. These are their recovery photos seven days after their surgeries. Take a look."

Zhao Xiaoting took the phone and started flipping through the photos.

After carefully swiping through a few photos, her mouth twisted into a grimace. "You can still see traces of the scar surgery."

"Waaah... waaah..."

Yan Feifan felt a headache coming on.

"Miss, this is only seven days post-op. And you’ve zoomed in so much, of course you can see traces of the surgery..."

Zhao Xiaoting wiped the corner of her eye with the back of her hand and asked, "Then how many days until the scars are completely invisible?"

"Two to three weeks. It mainly depends on the individual’s constitution and their post-op care," Yan Feifan answered.

Suddenly, Zhao Xiaoting got out of bed and stood in front of Yan Feifan.

Perhaps feeling she wasn’t tall enough, she climbed back onto the bed, staring down at Yan Feifan with wide eyes.

Zhao Xiaoting asked, enunciating every word, "Doctor, look me in the eye and promise me I won’t be disfigured."

Yan Feifan widened his own eyes to meet her gaze and said with great solemnity, "Based on my recent examination and my confidence in the surgery I performed last night, I can assure you..."

"You will not be disfigured."

Zhao Xiaoting stared into Yan Feifan’s eyes for a moment, then nodded. "You didn’t blink, and your gaze didn’t wander."

"I’ll trust you for now."

She then jabbed her finger forcefully at Yan Feifan and threatened, "Fifteen days. Twenty-one at the latest. If I can still see scars on my face by then, you’ll have to take responsibility for me."

Yan Feifan resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "Fine, I’ll take responsibility. Worst case, I’ll perform another surgery on you for free."

"So, what kind of accident happened last night, anyway?"

Zhao Xiaoting knelt on the bed and said, still shaken, "We were filming a scene. A large glass screen very close to us suddenly shattered for some unknown reason."

"A lot of people were injured."

"I saw my reflection in another piece of glass, and my face was covered in glass and blood..."

"I faint at the sight of blood... When I woke up, I was in the hospital."

Yan Feifan hummed in understanding. "Although you have many wounds on your face, they’re all minor."

"You and your companion can be discharged today."

Zhao Xiaoting gently touched her face, which was covered in medical tape, and exclaimed, "My face is covered in wounds, and it still hurts, and you’re just going to discharge me like this?"

Yan Feifan nodded. "No vital areas were hit, and there are no bone injuries. They are all superficial wounds with a low risk of infection."

"For you to remain hospitalized under these circumstances would be a pure waste of medical resources."

Just then, Yan Feifan heard heavy footsteps. He turned to see Mr. Gao, a producer in his thirties or forties, entering the room with a somber expression.

Yan Feifan had spoken with him last night after the surgery to discuss Zhao Xiaoting’s treatment, so they were acquainted.

Mr. Gao sized up Yan Feifan, his gloomy expression suddenly turning as bright as a sunny day. He took a step forward and enthusiastically grasped Yan Feifan’s hand.

"Mr. Yan, are you Mr. Wang’s star pupil?"

"I am the director’s student," Yan Feifan replied.

Although he never called Wang Chuan "teacher," they had what was essentially a master-apprentice relationship.

Yan Feifan wasn’t fond of shaking hands with people.

However, since the other man had taken the initiative to grab his hand, it would have been rude to pull away, so he could only passively go along with it.

Mr. Gao added his praise, "Mr. Yan, Mr. Wang speaks very highly of you."

"Mr. Wang mentioned that although your surgical fees are at the level of an associate chief physician, your actual skill in many areas has already far surpassed that of a typical chief physician."

"That’s just the director being biased and overpraising me!"

Yan Feifan said humbly, taking the opportunity to pull his hand back.

After exchanging a few perfunctory words, he said he had to do his rounds and quickly left the room...

After Yan Feifan left, Zhao Xiaoting asked in disbelief, "Mr. Gao, is that young Mr. Yan really that skilled?"

Mr. Gao’s expression immediately shifted from sunny back to cloudy. He snorted. "Whether he’s skilled or not, I can’t say, but his surgical fees are certainly sky-high."

"You got out of the operating room earlier than Qin Yue, but your surgical fee last night was more than double hers."

"Over forty thousand yuan. It’s practically robbery..."

Mr. Gao glanced at the empty bed and asked, "Where’s Qin Yue?"

"After I woke up, we chatted for a bit, then she went out and hasn’t come back."

Zhao Xiaoting explained, then asked with concern, "Mr. Gao, at a famous public hospital like the Affiliated Hospital, shouldn’t it be a case of you get what you pay for... in terms of skill?"

Mr. Gao hesitated for a moment before nodding. "The chances of the Affiliated Hospital overcharging unscrupulously are pretty low."

"This is perfect. We can use your and Qin Yue’s recoveries as a comparison."

"If this Mr. Yan is really as skilled as Mr. Wang says..."

Mr. Gao said thoughtfully, "...then perhaps there’s room to maneuver..."

Seeing Zhao Xiaoting listening with pricked ears, he quickly changed the subject. "Tingting, did you know?"

"You were actually quite lucky."

"Last night, Qin Yue thought Mr. Yan was just an ordinary resident, so she specifically chose a different attending physician."

"Otherwise..."
