PAMPERED BY MY THREE BROTHERS: THE RETURN OF THE NEGLECTED HEIRESS-Chapter 1830: One Last Bullet
Chapter 1830: One Last Bullet
Meanwhile...
Zoren’s eyes dilated as he watched Butler Gilbert shield Nathalie. Surely, the butler had devoted his entire life and death to her. However, that didn’t matter to him as he caught Nathalie climbing into the ascending chopper.
He opened fire, but it was too late.
The chopper had already taken off and continued to ascend, making the bullets useless.
"Take it down!"
"Don’t let her get away!"
Men, who had come here to take her down, shouted. However, their shouts were quickly replaced by others coming from all directions. Nathalie’s men had also arrived, keeping everyone busy as another round of crossfire raged.
Zoren’s face twisted, opening fire at the helicopter again, but to no avail.
"She’s getting away—"
"ZOREN!"
Just then, Nathalie’s shouts came from above. Armed with a rifle, she stood by the entrance of the chopper, eyes burning with resentment and unquenchable anger at Naylani’s son. Without warning, she pulled the trigger, aiming where he stood.
Instinctively, Zoren ran back into the mansion, barely saving himself from the incoming bullets.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Hiding behind the wall, the open door absorbed all the hits to the point it almost fell off its hinges. But that wasn’t what made the adrenaline pump into every vein of his body. It was the fact that she was getting away.
They couldn’t let her get away.
As the fight outside continued, Zoren’s mind raced, thinking of ways to stop her. Amid his thoughts, he caught someone running from the entrance.
His mind went blank as he turned, catching more of Nathalie’s men, who were on to him.
"There—"
BANG! BANG!
Zoren glided onto his knees, hiding behind the counter as continuous shots were aimed at him. He quickly reloaded, not thinking of anything else for now. Catching Nathalie was important, but the most important thing for him was... to go home alive. freewёbnoνel-com
To go back to his wife in one piece.
Once his rifle was loaded and locked, Zoren listened to the faint noise of hurried footsteps. After a beat, he gazed up and saw a man’s figure.
BANG!
Shooting the man down, he then slid to the side of the counter, enough to have protection, but also to see where the enemies were coming from. With that, he opened fire, taking down those who didn’t have time to hide.
After that, he hid behind the counter again.
His breathing was fast, his chest heaving heavily. Zoren quickly checked the chamber of his rifle. He had been fighting since he left the pavilion, barely looting those in his way. When he saw Nathalie and Butler Gilbert, Zoren didn’t have time to get more magazines from the fallen.
BANG! BANG!
Still, he didn’t hesitate to peek over the counter’s side and fired back, taking down two more soldiers.
"That’s the last one," he breathed out, pushing himself up to go back inside.
Outside, another battle was raging. Inside the mansion, it was the same. However, he couldn’t just run after the chopper. His only chance now was the rooftop, and he had to reach it fast.
But then, just as Zoren was about to stand up, enemies came from the door where Nathalie had gone. He turned and caught the first man who stepped in. He and the man locked eyes before they immediately opened fire in his direction.
Without thinking twice, he slid his whole body onto the side of the counter. Knowing he only had a few bullets left, he had to make use of them all before they started closing in. Unfortunately, just as he thought about it, he heard another wave of hurried footsteps from the other entrance within the mansion.
DAMN!
Zoren clenched his teeth, his eyes darting between the incoming enemies from one entrance and then the other. Once the second group arrived, he would be locked in from all directions. This counter wouldn’t shield him anymore.
Holding the rifle close to his chest, he closed his eyes and drew a deep breath.
He calmed himself down, thinking of the only person who could make him do the impossible—his wife, Penny.
’I need to go back to her,’ he told himself. ’I still need to find her.’
Zoren had mentally blocked the idea that his wife could’ve been dead, that she had died in that aircraft, and that he had watched her last moments. He couldn’t think of that even for a second, nor could he accept it. Because if he did, forget about Nathalie.
He would just accept being trapped, surrounded on all sides.
’Five or seven more bullets,’ he told himself, reopening his eyes.
A glint flickered across his sharp eyes, and in the next beat of his heart, he tilted his body and shot the men coming from the entrance that led from the yard. He took down the three men who were approaching the counter, and then he hid again.
As his back fused with the counter, he snapped his eyes to the other mansion entrance. The moment he caught the person coming in, another three bullets were released. However, he barely took down two of them.
Last one.
One last bullet... and yet, more people were coming.
Zoren swallowed, his heart thudding in his ears. He could feel the remaining men from the other entrance approaching, and then, some more from the other entrance approaching with discretion.
Time slowed for him, his ears ringing a flat line as all he could hear was nothing but silence.
How was he going to get out of here?
How?
He needed to go home.
What should he do?
His eyes glanced at the other entrance where the fallen soldier was lying in his own pool of blood. If he could just get there, and then grab that rifle, there was a better chance for him to escape.
If only...
But he knew once he got up, shots would be fired, and they would definitely hit him. They all could be bad shooters, but surely, even if they just opened fire mindlessly, one bullet would still hit him.
’Penny...’ he whispered to himself, his complexion pale. ’... I’m sorry.’
