Ezra, Kasandra, Jasmine, and Kaiden continued to fight with the enslaved mercenaries until they were down to only the three most skilled.

It was obvious by how well of a fight they put up that they had been quite impressive combatants before Iniquus had gotten his claws into them.

Of course, Avery's team members were no slouches themselves. Ezra, Kasandra, and Kaiden each had several years of experience as mercenaries, and Jasmine had gotten into her fair share of fire fights while she was still a member of the Alliance Police.

Eventually, only a single woman remained from the group of nine that had come to stop Ezra's team.

She was by far the most competent and was expertly holding her own against them.

Still, now that she was all alone, it was only a matter of time until she fell. Or at least, that was what all of them were thinking.

When an opening presented itself, she tossed away the laser rifle she had been wielding and leapt forward.

With unbelievably swift movements, she grabbed what appeared to be a small baton hanging on her belt which extended into a hard light spear.

This caught everyone off guard, and Kasandra's face was nearly skewered by a swift thrust of the weapon.

Fortunately, at the last moment, Ezra blocked the block with his hard light halberd and pushed the attacker back.

"It can't be." Ezra mumbled under his breath.

He then fiercely attacked the woman, but she was able to match him blow for blow. It was a truly astonishing sight for the others as Ezra certainly had the best close combat skills out of all of them. For this woman to be his equal, that meant she had to be extraordinarily skilled.

"I don't think it's going to be easy to beat her. I want the three of you to continue the search without me. I'll hold her here."

Ezra's sudden command to leave him left Kasandra, Jasmine, and Kaiden baffled. He was supposed to be the leader of their team, but he was telling them to abandon him while he was fighting such a dangerous person.

"Ezra, we can't do that. Let's just focus on taking her down together. She won't last for long if we all concentrate our fire." Kasandra said, aiming her weapon at the women and firing a shot at her.

Yet, the laser never made contact with its target. As if she could see the future, the woman slashed with her spear with perfect timing and deflected the blast with her hard light weapon.

In the same movement, she also pulled out a laser pistol at her hip and prepared to return fire. It was all incredibly quick, and Kasandra went wide eyed as she prepared to dodge out of the way.

However, before the woman could get off a shot, Ezra pressured her with his halberd and put her back on the defensive.

"I understand your feelings, but she is not someone that can be beaten so easily. These corridors are too tight to surround her, so our number advantage won't really help. Just go already. I promise to win."

This time, Ezra's tone was more forceful, and Kasandra could hardly continue arguing with him. As much as she wanted to stay and help, spending too much time fighting a single person would only prevent them from completing their objective.

There was also something else that she had picked up on. Ezra was almost certainly acquainted with this person. She could hear extreme anger in his tone. Something that was uncharacteristic of him since he usually kept his calm.

"Okay. We're going." Kasandra said, leading her brother and Jasmine down a different hall and continuing the search for Grito's uncle.

The woman obviously tried to stop them, but she had her hands full fighting off Ezra. A single direct hit from his hard light weapon would spell the end of her after all.

For nearly two minutes, both of them fought against each other fiercely, going blow for blow, until Ezra finally managed to connect an attack.

He did not hit his opponent's body though, but instead, his halberd cleaved through the protective helmet that had been covering the woman's face.

Shoulder length green hair fell down as the helmet fell apart, and a pair of piercing gray eyes were staring back at Ezra.

Immediately, Ezra recognized her. Until now he could not be certain, but now that her face was exposed, he was.

"Olivia, I thought that you had died. Though, it seems that a fate worse than death has befallen you." Ezra said, his expression pained to see a friend in such a state.

It had been nearly three years ago now, but the two of them had worked closely together on a job that had lasted over four months. They had promised to keep in touch with each other and work together again in the future if their paths crossed. Except, around a year ago, Olvia just seemed to have vanish. Everyone had merely assumed she had perished somewhere out in space. An occupational hazard of being a mercenary. Yet this appeared to not be the case after all.

Despite the strong emotions Ezra was feeling, Olivia did not say anything, and her gaze remained cold. To survive as one of Iniquus' slave soldiers, she had long ago buried her emotions and learned to follow orders to the letter. Doing anything else was met with unbearable pain that even a seasoned mercery was unable to withstand. Her only option had been to submit.

"Don't worry. I'll stop you here and have that implant in your head removed. So don't hold anything back and fight me. I'll win anyway and bring you back."

There was an even greater determination in Ezra's eyes now than there had been before. No longer was he fighting just to rescue a client's uncle and help out some other mercenaries that had been ensnared by Iniquus. What he was doing now was to rescue a friend.
